Angry Birds POP Blast

Angry Birds POP Blast (originally known as Angry Birds POP 2) was an Angry Birds bubble shooter video game developed by Krome Studios and Rovio Entertainment, and distributed by Rovio Entertainment, being the sequel to Angry Birds POP !, which uses the designs from Angry Birds: The Movie. [1]

The game takes place after the events of Angry Birds 2: The Movie, as the birds and pigs work together in alliance fighting against a mysterious and invisible threat.

History

Business launch event

The game was first released in select countries on March 30, 2019, then released to other countries on April 12, 2019, which were Australia, Canada, Finland, Poland, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. Two months later, the game launched in the United States on May 24, 2019.

Discontinuation

In the Rovio Entertainment Corporation Financial Statement Bulletin, it was mentioned that it would be discontinued support for the Angry Birds POP Blast video game, as based on data from its soft launch during its first few months, Rovio Entertainment saw no opportunities to scale the game. game at a satisfactory level with the acquisition of users, so it was decided to discontinue it during early January 2020. [2]

Gameplay

The game is a bubble shooter genre like the original, which is played differently from this one. In this the player takes control of a bird and a pig.

Birds have a special bubble destruction ability that is only available when their rage meter is full. Pigs also have a support skill that when their skill bar is full, it's ready to go, popping green snout bubbles. Each bird and pig has different abilities.

Character abilities

Birds

• Red: When his ability is ready, he can fire an explosive fireball that deals area-of-effect damage around the point of impact.
• Chuck: He can shoot a lightning ball that destroys a chain of bubbles at an angle.
• Bomb: Throw an explosive charge that jumps over an obstacle. It has a smaller extension than Red's rage ability.
• Jay, Jake and Jim: They fire a scattered shot that damages obstacles.
• Matilda: She can shoot a fireball that destroys all the bubbles in the same row from the point of impact, damaging anything else in that row.
• Terence: Shoot a ball that destroys a chain of bubbles at a certain angle at a stronger range.
• Stella: Can shoot a bouncing bubble, wrapping hit bubbles in gum. Gummed bubbles can be destroyed with a bubble of any color.
• Silver: Make Loops.

pigs

• Common Pig: When his ability is ready, he launches barrels of TNT at random locations in the current camera view that will explode.
• Moustached Pig: Throw small wrecking balls that demolish random obstacles.
• Pig Chef: Throw slices of cake in random places in the current camera view.
• Corporal Pig: Can fire some rockets that replace some bubbles closer to the launcher that can shoot upward when hit or dropped.
• Lumberjack Pig: Throw an ax that clears obstacles in his way.
• Big Pig: Attacks enemies at random.
• Clockwork Pig: Pulls out a blowtorch and turns the player's bubble into a fiery one.
• Leonard: Unknown.

Not playable

• Chicks: no skills, characters to be released within some of the levels.
• Piglets: no skills, characters to be released within some of the levels.

Enemies

• Aliens: When threatened, they begin to crawl to safety.

Stars

As in other games, players can earn up to 3 stars on a level based on their score, in the video game there is a special piñata that can be opened after earning a total of 30 stars.

Character cards

Completing levels earn tokens that can be redeemed for Billy-inspired piñatas, which are then destroyed for additional character cards, special powers, or lives.

Character cards are used to unlock and level up, increasing one of their stats each time they level up.

Lives

If in a level, the player runs out of ammo to cast, they can continue to purchase additional bubble gems. if the player decides not to spend the gems, they lose a life. Each life takes 30 minutes to regenerate, and once all lives are lost, the game pauses for a time until lives are recovered or purchased.

Curiosities

• In the Halloween trailer, Chuck scares a pig, causing it to have a heart attack and die, being in a way, a dark scene for a child's play.
• The game reappears the versions of Red, Chuck and Bomb from Angry Birds Space, in their movie version.
• Originally it would be called Angry Birds POP 2, but the name was changed, because it was not a sequel to Angry Birds POP! per se.
