Ansem Reports

Each filtering bag Ansem Reports are a series of pages to be collected during the course of Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II. The reports explain the plot, and focus heavily on the nature of beings, what they become (Heartless and Nobody), and the nature of darkness and nothingness.

The second report that is collected in Kingdom Hearts II, also known as Ansem's Secret Report, explains the background and plans of specific characters, mainly Xehanort, Naminé, and Organization XIII. Although the two reports were originally thought to have been written by Ansem the Wise, he claims in the Secret Ansem Report that he only wrote Ansem Report 1, while his apprentice Xehanort stole his identity and wrote from part 2 to part 13 of the Ansem Reports.

Report Ansem 1

Long years I have dedicated to the search for knowledge. My wisdom is the force that maintains peace in this world. Nobody doubts that. The people are always smiling; his heart overflows with respect for me. But there are things that even I - who they call wise - cannot understand. Deep in every heart, even the purest, lies darkness. A tiny bit of darkness can grow and grow until it engulfs the whole heart. I have seen how it happened many times. The darkness of the heart ?? Where does it originate and where does it lead us? As the ruler of this small world, it is my duty to find out. Before those ruled by darkness disturb our peace.

The darkness that is hidden in the heart ?? ... I must discover its true nature. I will carry out a series of experiments:

The experiments have failed. All contact with the heart of the subjects has caused their immediate destruction, even in those supposedly strong in spirit. How fragile is our heart! I tried to heal them, but all the subjects irretrievably lost their hearts with no signs of improvement. I have confined them under the castle. I must avoid the people such a pitiful sight. Those shadows that swarm in the darkness below the castle. ?? Are they individuals who have lost their hearts? Are they incarnations of the dark? Or maybe something totally different? My knowledge is not enough to find an answer. Something is evident: they are totally deprived of emotion. Perhaps the key to solving the enigma of the heart is hidden in them. I must continue to study them. Fortunately, I am not lacking specimens ?? ... Beings reproduce rapidly. I must name them. They are heartless beings. ?? I'll call them "heartless."

The Heartless arise in groups, and continue to reproduce without pause. I have supplied you with live and non-living samples. They have only reacted to the cheers. The Heartless absorb some of the living samples and reproduce again. The samples disappear without a trace. What will they absorb? I suspect that these beings snatch people's hearts. They are born of those who have lost their hearts, and they reproduce by taking the heart out of others. Stolen Hearts are the seed of the new Heartless. I lack credible evidence, but I trust the veracity of my theory. I will supply you with a large number of live samples to gather more experimental data. Based on my observations, I have made a hypothesis. The heartless vampires of hearts, they are after that core of energy. It must also be a heart ??. The heart of this world. I have no proof. However, what I felt before that enormous force has convinced me. That is the heart of the world. The Heartless yearn not only for the hearts of people, but also for the world. That is your true goal. But what are they trying to do with the heart of the world?

To be sure, there is a deep link between the human heart and the heartless. My studies could reveal not only the purpose of these beings but also the elusive enigma of the heart. I decided to create a tool to help me with the task: a heartless generator machine. They arise from those who have lost their hearts. With my knowledge of this, the company did not seem impossible. I finally managed to manufacture the device. I put it to work, and it immediately generated a Heartless with no problem whatsoever. If I perfect it, maybe I can create a heart out of nothing ... Comparing the synthetic heartless with those that arose spontaneously, I found little difference in their characteristics and abilities. However, in pursuit of more reliable results, they will have to be clearly distinguished. The Heartless I produce in my laboratory will bear an easily recognizable mark.

The wielder of the Keyblade is described as a savior of the world ... or as a mastermind of chaos. What will that keyblade be? A key ... The power to open doors. Opening the door that guards the hearts of a world, the wall that surrounds it is torn down. We see it as a shooting star. Chaos affects not only this world, but all the others. In the "Ansem Reports", which my apprentice Xehanort had written under my name, I found the records of his heinous experiments, along with his hypotheses about a door that had emerged from the darkness of my basement. Everything that lives has a heart, and all hearts have a dark part deep down. The worlds are no exception. If a world is a being, its heart must have enormous strength. In the same way, the darkness inside must be monstrous. Has Xehanort entered the door? Has he come into contact with that dark realm? I'm afraid so, and not just Xehanort. Apparently my other five apprentices, convinced they were doing it for the sake of research, tried to see inside the darkness and were trapped inside. Even, Ienzo, Braig, Dilan, Aeleus ?? ... They are all no longer human. I too have been stripped of everything I possessed, banished to an empty kingdom where nothingness was sovereign. What does Xehanort hope to gain by stealing my existence? Will the happiness of my people also vanish? In this realm, where all existence has been disintegrated, I have managed to preserve my sense of identity through thought and writing. In this place, even time has lost its meaning. Here eternity is but a moment. I must hurry, I am sure that the plans of my pupils are already underway. The Heartless must be the key to unraveling this mystery. The six traitors worked in a laboratory that cast those damned shadows incessantly. Not only did they create many heartless ?? pureblood ?? made from living hearts, but also used those Heartless to make artificial versions. The artificial heartless wore badges and were called “Emblems”. Thoroughbreds or Emblems, the actions of these Heartless only obey their instincts. Their narrow minds detect hearts and just crowd around them. A human leader would be ineffective: the Heartless would easily steal the human's heart and use it to increase their own ranks. But what if whoever gives the orders is also a heartless? stronger? To have joined the darkness that reigns in the middle of this nothing, was a great success. : As soon as I dared to look forward with a calm heart, without rejecting or fearing the dark, I gained a new power. A superhuman power: the power of darkness. Xehanort and the others have likely been captivated by this power and may have become its prisoners. I will do the impossible so that the darkness does not devour my heart, as it devoured theirs. Although beings born of darkness and those without heart may feel comfortable in dark passages, they are dangerous for everyone. The darkness corrodes the heart. In search of a place to investigate, away from prying eyes, I came to Twilight Town. It is a quiet and forgotten place, in the abyss between light and darkness. I settled in the basement of an abandoned mansion, under the cover of a forest. My underground investigations have yielded one discovery after another. When a heartless is born, the abandoned body and soul are reborn in this world as a different being. The intentions of these beings differ from those of their heartless brethren, and although it is unclear what these ?? things ?? they may be responsible for the follies of this world. My old friend the king and his subjects are fighting the Heartless, along with a hero wielding a Keyblade, but a new threat is approaching. A new threat. ?? Beings that have given themselves a name that I consider appropriate. They are the "Nobodies". Large numbers of Nobodies have lost their human form, like the Heartless. But a Nobody born to someone with a strong heart retains its shape, with barely visible changes. Apparently my detractors have retained their human forms as Nobodies, and are recruiting more followers in hopes of promoting a new plan. Organization XIII, made up of thirteen Nobodies, with my traitors at the core, have split in two, and are conducting some kind of investigation. I have proposed to discover their plans, and for that I have decided to go where six of its members are, the place rises above the external limits that exist between darkness and light: the Castle of Oblivion.

Report Ansem 8

I have apparently been carried away by the behavior of Xehanort and his followers, and by the events surrounding them. My friends' fight to protect the Realm of Light against the threat of the Heartless is over. At last, Xehanort's Heartless who called himself Ansem, the Seeker of Darkness, has been defeated. The other wielder of the Keyblade, that "hero", traveled from world to world sealing the Locks and fighting the Heartless. Meanwhile, the king had ventured into the Kingdom of Darkness and was trying, together with the Chosen of the Keyblade, to close the door to the Kingdom of Hearts. Thus he planned to end the threat of tremendous darkness. But there are still large numbers of Heartless standing, and Organization XIII and the Nobodies continue to lurk from the shadows. The truth is that the world is still a very dangerous place. We must find a way to combat these enemies. So I can repair the damage I caused and get my revenge. Those are the reasons that led me to infiltrate the Castle of Oblivion. The castle consists of thirteen floors and twelve basements, and what is in its ?? white rooms ?? it is transformed according to the memories of its visitors. He expected no less from a Chosen of the Keyblade. Sora and his friends defied the threat of Organization XIII and rescued Naminé. Naminé was a witch who controlled the memories of others. Kairi, an inhabitant of Radiant Garden, the city I ruled, was one of the Seven Princesses who preserve the Kingdom of Light. As there was no darkness in her heart, Kairi did not produce a Heartless, and instead of fading away, her body remained in the Realm of Light. In other words, the Nobody named Naminé and the Heartless are proof of a lost heart, they are extremely unstable beings that lack the necessary body to create a Nobody. Therefore, they also do not possess Kairi's memories. One possible explanation is that, when she separated from her body, Kairi's heart did not return to darkness, but instead migrated to another vessel? deep into Sora's heart. In the Castle of Oblivion I met an old friend, but I could not reveal my identity. If he knew about the situation, he would probably try to dissuade me from carrying out my revenge.
