Easier
Players can enter the ocean by pressing "A" while close to it. To swim faster, players must press "A" quickly. Players can dive with "Y" and move underwater with "A". Once players have touched a dark spot in the water, they will catch it and reveal what they caught. Players cannot stay underwater for long, but the longer they stay underwater, the faster they will move.
Players can also jump off cliffs and fall into the sand or ocean by standing near the cliff and pressing "A".
Players cannot wear other clothing while wearing a diving suit; Only shoes, hats and accessories remain visible. Other clothing remains under the diving suit, but cannot be seen or removed until the diving suit is removed.
Obtaining
Animal Crossing: New Leaf
The wetsuit can be purchased on Tortimer Island for 40 Medals. There is a 25% chance that the wetsuit will be available on any given day. If the wetsuit is not for sale, the Giroide will always offer one for hire outside Tortimer Island. Certain diving suits are rare, such as orange and pink, while others are only found in the Tortimer Club, such as blue, red, striped and white, which the player can join by obtaining 50 medals.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Although not initially included in the base game, the wetsuit is included in the summer update (1.3.0), along with the diving mechanics and underwater creatures.
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, there are three types of wetsuit; Nook Inc's striped diving suit, leaf diving suit and diving suit. The striped diving suit and leaf diving suit can be purchased for 3000 Berries, while the Nook Inc diving suit can be redeemed for 800 Nook Miles. Both the striped wetsuit and the sheet wetsuit have 4 color variations. The Nook Inc. wetsuit suit has no variations.
Similar to Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the wetsuit is regarded as a tool and, unlike most tools in New Horizons, it has infinite uses. Wetsuits cannot be rented and must be purchased directly in order to be used. If a player is holding a tool, such as a slingshot or rod, they will not be able to dive, and the tool they are holding will be used instead. In order to dive, the player must put away the tool they are holding.
Similar to New Leaf, the player cannot change clothes or try on clothes in Handy Sisters while wearing a diving suit, as the diving suit covers the players' clothing rather than replacing it entirely. The diving suit also cannot be registered as a suit on the wands.
Curiosities
- If the player spends enough time diving, they will shiver as if they were cold coming out of the water. The time to activate this effect is significantly shortened in the winter months.
- In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, neighbors do not recognize when the player is wearing a diving suit, despite talking about the object; instead, they will comment on the clothing the player is wearing under the suit. This also happens in New Horizons.
- If the player presses A to dive while not near the water, they will start the dive, but stop and make a wide-eyed expression.
- In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, purchasing a diving suit is required to unlock Gullivarrr.
