Dr. Finkelstein is a resident of Halloween Town who appears in Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts II, and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. His appearance is based on the Tim Burton movie "The Nightmare Before Christmas". Portrayed as a mad scientist, Dr. Finkelstein conducts experiments in his laboratory, mostly trying to create life. He created Sally, a living doll who became his assistant. Confined to a wheelchair, Finkelstein has trouble getting around. He wears a helmet through which his brain can be accessed which he scratches at times when he is thoughtful. He can be in a bad mood at times, and is mostly too busy in his experiments to develop friendships, although Jack Skeleton seems to have been successful. Sometimes it can be good, but this is rarely seen. He reprises a supporting role in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, alongside Jack and Zero.

History

Kingdom Hearts

Dr. Finkelstein has a minor role in Kingdom Hearts. He is helping Jack create a heart, but it is stolen by Lock, Shock, and Barrel. The heart recovers thanks to Jack, Sora, Donald, and Goofy, but only after Oogie Boogie swallows it to try to control the Heartless himself.

Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories

Dr. Finkelstein makes an appearance as a product of Sora's memory in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. In the game, Jack Skeleton asks you to make him a memory potion, hoping it would help him teach the Halloween Heartless new tricks.

Kingdom Hearts 358 / 2 Days

Dr. Finkelstein appears once again in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, helping Jack with his new ideas for Halloween. He is seen in the Town Square with the Pumpkin King on Roxas' second visit to Halloween Town, examining Heartless inside Jack's Balloons.

Kingdom Hearts II

Dr. Finkelstein returns in this game. He's busy building a robotic creature with the help of Lock, Shock, and Barrel, but their antics are bugging him. He finishes his experiment, but the experiment escapes after attacking the doctor, and dismounts in a battle against Sora and his friends in Christmas Town.

Appearance

Dr. Finkelstein is a frail-looking person with thin, thin limbs and very small hands and feet, but he has a disproportionately large head. He is confined to a black electric wheelchair, which appears to be quite old and unwieldy. The chair is almost entirely metal and has no cushioning whatsoever, and it has two levers, one on each footrest, that Finkelstein uses to move it. Finkelstein wears a white lab coat with buttons down the right side, matching pants, black shoes, and black gloves that are much wider than his arms. His skin is an unhealthy white color and he has small, round, shiny black eyes, usually covered by glasses, as well as thin black eyebrows. It has a beak-shaped mouth in structure and appears to be missing some teeth. Finkelstein's ears and nose are so small that they are almost non-existent, and his nose points forward. Evidently Dr. Finkelstein's most prominent feature on his skull, which bears several obvious studs and a free horizontal seam around the middle. Finkelstein can literally uncover the skull through a hinge at the back, exposing his pink brain, which he often scratches when trying to think of a better idea.

Personality

He is an extremely irritable, old and grumpy doctor. She has a passion for inventing, although she shows no abilities to invent anything, which is shown by the following things: Sally, obviously, does not assume that she is a "good girl at all", and the heart, the potion, and the experiment , everything went wrong. In addition, he has some ego, repeatedly insisting that his designs and inventions are flawless and finding ways to blame his failures on others, such as a shortage of ingredients for the artificial heart or a need for better helpers to build the Experiment.

In Tim Burton's classic film, Dr. Finkelstein is the same character portrayed in the Kingdom Hearts series. As Sally's creator, the doctor is exasperated and irritated by Sally, who puts him to sleep while she ventures outside. He usually tracks her down and returns to the lab with her, locking her in her room. After Jack's return from Christmas Town, Dr. Finkelstein helps him perform some experiments to explain the meaning of Christmas. When Jack decides to run for Christmas, he asks Dr. Finkelstein if he can create reindeer for a sleigh. He, however, creates skeletal versions of them. Finkelstein spends the rest of the film building a new assistant, who becomes a female version of him.

Curiosities

When in the English version of Kingdom Hearts II the name of Dr. Finkelstein is mentioned for the first time in a voice scene, it is mispronounced, Jack calls him "Finkel-steen" instead of the name of the film version, " Finkel-stine ".
