Eternal River it's a world from the past in Kingdom Hearts II. Entering through a door in the Hall of the Cornerstone at Disney Castle, Eternal River is an area where time stands still and it was still black and white and the castle had not yet been built. It is primarily based on the 1928 short El Botero Willie, as well as many other classic Disney short films. Mono (single channel) sound is used in this world, reminiscent of the original short film.

Pete comes to the Eternal River as part of a desire to return to simpler days, Maleficent taking advantage of him and working on her plans to invade the sacred land and capture the Cornerstone of Light. This is because the Disney Castle in the future would have no way to protect itself leaving it vulnerable to the Heartless. The Heartless found in Eternal River are surreal and strange. Many of them are toys. Cases include the Hot Rod, which is a cartoon car, and the Airplane, which is a toy airplane.

Sora and his friends meet Mickey Mouse from times past, along with the good (but equally rude) Pete from the past. The boss of the Eternal River is bad Pete from the future, with Pete from the past helping Sora in battle.

During the initial visit to the Eternal River, it is at the time of the 1st World War of 19. Later, the battle level becomes 34, although the content of the story is not added.

Although there is no specific rule of this world, Pete seems to have more authority.

Character design

In Eternal River, Sora, Donald, and Goofy turn into black and white versions based on their original appearance. Sora appears in his original Kingdom Hearts costume, and is performed in an anime style similar to Osamu Tezuka. Donald's appearance dates back to his 1934 debut in The Wise Little Hen, and Goofy resembles his original 1932 appearance (albeit much younger here) in Mickey's Revue. Although the modern version of Pete appears in this world as the final boss, the only change in his appearance is that he becomes black and white.

Curiosities

Eternal River is one of the few worlds in the game that alternates between day and night, as in the "place of the fire" where it is clearly seen that it occurs at night.
Eternal River is also one of the few worlds in the game that does not feature Nobodies in any shape or form, even after the battle level rises.
