El museum It is a building found in every major game in the Animal Crossing series, with the exception of Dōbutsu no Mori. It is an establishment with the functionality of collecting and exhibiting Bugs, Fish, Paintings and Fossils. It is managed, an owl named Socrates, who is in the entrance hall.

    Summary

    Animal Crossing

The museum, although absent in Dōbutsu no Mori, makes its debut in later versions. In the museum, the player can donate any critter, fish, fossil or painting that they obtain. However, in the case of fossils, the player must send any unidentified fossils to the D'Allí Museum, as Socrates, the Museum administrator, cannot identify the fossils himself. For each donation, the Museum is divided into several sections related to the category to which the donation belongs, be it such as critters, fish, fossils or paintings. Once the player has donated an entire section, Socrates will congratulate the player for completing it. On the other hand, if they have donated everything from each exhibit, the player will receive a Mini-museum as a reward for their hard work.

The bug section consists of a single room, at the back of the room, there are about five to seven summer themed trees that have both beetles and cicadas, once each one is donated. In the middle, there are many flowers, a pond and a tree that contain ladybugs and butterflies when they are donated. At the bottom are a pile of leaves, a large rock, and a tree containing grasshoppers, crickets, and a few other critters. If the player donates a mosquito or a cockroach, they will both be seen moving freely around the exhibit, either flying or gliding across the floor, respectively.

The aquarium is just one room containing six tanks for pond, river and freshwater fish. If a frog is donated, it can be seen croaking on top of a water lily in the upper right tank. At the back of the exhibit, there is a large tank containing seawater fish.

The art gallery is one room, which contains many corridors of paintings. The path to each row of paintings curves and twists.

The fossil exhibit is a room where the largest fossils, such as the Tyrannosaurus rex, are placed randomly and in non-linear lines. Smaller fossils, such as amber, are placed in a line near the entrance.

    Animal Crossing: Wild World

In Animal Crossing: Wild World, the museum is reinstated with several changes added. The museum now has stairs leading to an Observatory and a cafe known as El Alpiste, respectively. Furthermore, Socrates can now identify fossils himself, since he already has the title of fossil identification. In addition to these new additions, the museum in Wild World has the same function as in Animal Crossing.

The bug exhibit is divided into two rooms. The butterflies are in the first room, as are all the critters that live in palm trees, under rocks, and on the ground and ponds. All the bugs that live in the trees are in the second room. The roach, once donated, crawls across the floor of the first room.

The aquarium is divided into two rooms, all fish from rivers, ponds, lakes and waterfalls are kept in two tanks inside the first room, while all ocean fish are kept in a large tank in the second room located north of the first.

The paint display is almost the same as in the previous game, except there are more twists and turns.

The fossil exhibit contains two rooms, with smaller fossils in both rooms.

Animal Crossing: City Folk/Let's Go To The City

In Animal Crossing: City Folk, the museum features redesigned exhibits from the predecessor game. Other than that, no major changes are made.

The bug exhibit is a large room divided into three levels. The first level has all the butterflies, located near the entrance with critters that can be found near or in the water. The second level, connected to the first by a small slope, is decorated as a small wooded area and rafflesia next to the slope. The third level, which is also connected by a small slope to the second level, is open in plants, with trees surrounding the wall at the top of the room with some heat lamps.

The aquarium is a large room, most of the oceanic fish, are in a very large tank that extends throughout the northern part of the room. Small ocean fish are kept in a long, tube-shaped tank in the southeast corner of the room. Most of the small river fish are in the southwest corner of the room in a similar tank. All other river, pond, lake and waterfall fish are kept in the middle of the room in two tanks.

The art gallery is divided into two rooms; A main room and a back room. Most of the paintings are displayed in the main room. In the back, there is a single row of paintings along the wall of the room. The rope divider in the middle of the room protects the famous painting once it is donated.

The fossil exhibit consists of two rooms and floors. The smaller fossils are kept upstairs in the second room.

    Animal Crossing: New Leaf

In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the museum returns with a big change in both its image and its functionality. For example, the player can now donate multiple specimens at once, although doing this will miss out on Socrates' unique reaction and monologue. The museum is divided into four sections for Bugs, Fish, Fossils, and art.

The bug section is divided into three separate rooms. The first is a wide open space without trees, with a variety of flowers and a small pond, the critters found here include most butterflies, along with other flying and terrestrial critters. The second room contains some flowers and a tree stump in the central display, surrounded by oaks and cedars. This room houses mantises and a variety of beetles and dragonflies. The third room has a mix of palm and oak trees, several stumps, and a rafflesia flower in the center. This room houses exotic beetles found on palm trees, centipedes, flies, cicadas, etc.

The aquarium, like the critter section, is divided into three rooms. The first room houses freshwater fish, A tank that houses small tropical fish. At the back of the room is a series of three tanks, connected by waterfalls that show fish along a river from its source to its mouth. In front of this tank is a large pond with various fish, amphibians, and freshwater turtles. To the right is a large tank with large freshwater fish. The second room has two large tanks for large saltwater fish. The first tank contains fish from the open sea like sharks. The second tank is built into the wall and houses Underwater Creatures. There is a nearby exhibit with a submarine and a wetsuit. The third room is divided into three floors and contains small and medium sea fish. The largest tank has a hammerhead shark and several other medium-sized fish. This tank has a ladder and a T-shaped tunnel for the player to see the fish at different angles. On the second floor there is a long tube-shaped tunnel that houses sea butterflies and an icicle, reflecting the polar habitat of real-life animals. The third tank on the upper deck contains colorful corals and houses coral reef fish.

In New Leaf, the Observatory is replaced by a store located on a second floor. The second floor of the museum is not available at the beginning of the game, so the player must first unlock it and build it as a municipal project. After the player has been mayor for at least a week, and the museum has at least twenty items, with at least one in each category, the player can find Socrates thinking and if the player talks to him, he will tell about the second floor of the museum that is not being used, and will add it to the municipal project list. After paying you 198,000 Berries at the Train Station, the second floor, including the museum shop, will open the next day. The store is run by Estela, and is where the player can purchase various of the silver tools and various museum-themed decorative items. In addition, there are four exhibition areas available for the player to rent. These can be used to display furniture or simply as a storage space. However, each room costs 10,000 Berries each.

    Animal Crossing: New Horizons

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the museum is unavailable from the beginning of the game. To achieve this, the player must have donated 5 bugs or fish to Tom Nook at the Neighborhood Management Office. Once he's done, Tom Nook will get a call from Socrates who will ask him to set up a tent. Soon after, Tom Nook will deliver Socrates' tent to the player, who must then place the tent somewhere on the island. The next day, Socrates will have set up a tent in the place chosen by the player. Then the player will have to donate 15 more specimens for the museum to be built. The museum will open after two days of construction. The new museum has only three sections, for Fish, Bugs and Fossils. Similar to Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the player can donate multiple specimens and examine multiple fossils at once.

The bug section is divided into three rooms. The first room is the largest and is divided into four different levels with a waterfall connected to a pond, several trees, stumps and flowers. On the lowest level there is a pond with a glass partition so that visitors can see the water bugs, on the second level bugs found or associated with trees such as beetles and cicadas are housed, the third level is located just above the pond and has flowers, palm trees and a bench, this section is home to mantis, honey bees and bed bugs, the fourth level is next to the waterfall where the dragonflies are found. The second room is a bright room with a fountain in the center with a frog and several water lilies, it houses butterflies, snails, ladybugs and the whole room is surrounded by flowers, when the player donates a butterfly. The third room houses various exhibits including garbage strewn areas, a coastline, jungle, dense flower meadows, burrows, and a desert. There is also a laboratory area where parasites such as fleas and mosquitoes are housed.

The aquarium, like the critter section, is divided into three rooms. The first room houses freshwater fish with a tank in the shape of 8 figures houses small tropical fish, at the back of the room there is a series of three tanks, connected by waterfalls and showing fish found along a river from its beginning to its mouth, in front of this tank there is a large pond with various fish, amphibians and freshwater turtles. To the right is a large tank with the largest freshwater fish. The second room has two large tanks for large saltwater fish, the first tank houses open sea fish such as sharks and a school of anchovies. The second tank is built into the wall and houses deep-sea fish. The third room is divided into three floors and contains small and medium sea fish, the largest tank has a hammerhead shark and several other medium fish, this tank has a ladder and a T-shaped tunnel for the player to see the fish. at different angles. On the second floor there is a long tube-shaped tunnel that houses sea butterflies and an icicle, which reflects the polar habitat of these fish in real life. The third tank on the upper deck contains colorful corals and houses coral reef fish. Initially, all tanks are empty, but as the player donates more fish, plants and rocks will appear.

The fossil section is divided into three rooms, each room is linked with a glowing path, showing the paths of evolution and the geological timeline, the first room contains fossils of primitive animals (mainly invertebrates and fish), the second houses tetrapod skeletons from the Paleozoic and Mesozoic eras (as well as a model of the meteorite that killed the dinosaurs and another model of said meteor hitting Earth), the third houses Cenozoic mammals, and a table showing the relationships between the different species of neighbors (including humans).

Unlike the previous games, the museum does not have an art gallery, but as of the Nature Day update (version 1.2.0), the museum can be expanded to include this section. To unlock it, the player must bring a genuine work of art to the museum (which can be purchased from Ladino), and by donating it, Socrates will notify the player that he plans to expand the museum and the next day it will be closed for a renovation. Upon completion, the exterior and interior appearance of the museum will change. The art gallery is located on the top floor above the fossil display.

    Curiosities

    • In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, if a secondary player has donated a specimen to the museum and then its game is deleted, in the museum exhibit it will say that it was donated by "Someone".
      • This will result in players never being able to get a mini-museum. This is a bug that was never fixed.
    • In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, on the fourth level of the first room you can see several bugs, which the player does not donate, these bugs appear when the player donates many bugs.
    • In New Horizons, when a sea butterfly is donated to the museum, several appear inside the tank.
