An update that arrived in late 2022 introduced the split screen mode, also known as split screen. In case you don't know, the concept is very simple: 2 people share the same TV and play simultaneously through 2 controller connected to the PS4.
In short, in a similar way to what happened with the good "old" local mode, we invite a amico at home, the second controller and played together with Fortnite. What changes from the classic co-op mode? The title involved is a Battle Royale which takes place online, so they essentially go to challenge each other 98 other players.
Everything happens like one of the classic Fortnite games, but in this case you can count on the help of a friend who plays locally. The screen, as mentioned, is shared: usually, the host is at the top, while the guest's view is at the bottom.
Obviously, in order not to make the games unbalanced, you can only play in the mode Couples or anyway Teams. In this way, the teams are always made up of several people and there is therefore no risk that some players find themselves alone facing multiple users.

How to access a secondary profile on the PS4
Now that you are aware of the possibilities offered by the Fortnite split screen mode, I would say that the time has come to prepare everything you need to play with your friend. Don't worry: in reality, it's all very simple.
To proceed, connect the second controller to the PlayStation 4. If it is the first time that you do this with the secondary pad, you will need to via cable. Find some USB ports directly to the front of the console, so you shouldn't have much trouble at this stage. If, on the other hand, you don't have a secondary controller and your friend can't bring it to your home, you might be interested in having some advice on which pad to buy. In that case, you can find all the relevant indications in my guide to the best controllers for PS4.
Once the controller is connected to the console, press the button PS (the one placed in the center with the PlayStation logo) and select the secondary profile. You just need one local account and you don't even need a PlayStation Plus subscription, since Fortnite is a Free to Play game. You have to do this process when Fortnite is closed, given that apparently the Epic Games title fails to detect the secondary account while it is already open.
In any case, if you don't have a secondary profile, you need to create one that is also capable of accessing the PlayStation Network. In fact, although no subscription is required, Fortnite is still an online title and therefore both players must be enabled to use these features.

Put simply, that's enough for you create a secondary local account and then follow the directions to enable it at online functionality. However, if you've already done this with your main account, the procedure isn't much different.
How 2 play Fortnite on the same PS4
After explaining how to log in to the second account needed for play for two in Fortnite on the same PlayStation 4, I'd say you're ready to take action. Only the last tricks are missing and then you'll be in the game.
Once the two controllers are properly connected, boot up Fortnite, select the mode Battle Royale and press the button square of the controller to choose the type of match. Then press the button X of the pad on the frame COUPLES o TEAMS, choosing the mode you prefer: in the first you will be in a team only with your friend, while in the second mode you will both team up with other people added by the game.
At this point, hold down the key X of second controller and choose whether to link an Epic Games account to this profile or whether play right away. Associate a profile epic Games can be useful for "Export" the results on a different console, but if you just want to play games with your friend, which is likely to be, I recommend skip this step. You can do this by first pressing on the option SKIP THIS and then on that NO THANK YOU. PLAY FORTNITE.
Perfect, you have now completed all the steps necessary to play Fortnite for two. If everything has been done correctly, you should see the second player appear on the main game screen. Count that your friend may have a low-level accounts and therefore you may have to put up with some tutorial screen (nothing special, but it's just to warn you). To start a game, just press the button triangle of the controller.
Now that everything is ready, I will give you some useful information to understand what changes compared to a normal game of Fortnite. Well, when you play in Pairs mode and you are still in the flying bus, the one in which you thank the driver, the game selects the Skydive leader (a message appears on the screen indicating which of the two players has this role).
The leader is in charge of choose when to get off from the bus e where to land. By default, the second player automatically follows the leader, so as not to get too scattered on the map. Obviously, since you are playing with your friend next to you, you can easily coordinate properly.
Once you get off, your game will start, which will take place in a very similar way to the classic Battle Royale. One aspect to consider is the defeat of one of the two players. In fact, when one of the two users loses, the other player can recover one restart card, which is nothing more than an object that serves to make resurrect the companion. To use the restart card, you need to go to a dedicated one van.
For the rest, little or nothing changes: once brought to the game is over, the leader can decide whether start another one immediately, go to shop items, enter spectator mode or go back to lobby. Once back on the main Fortnite screen, the second player can "take control" holding the button down X of pad. This is useful in case you want personalize his character or take a look at rewards received.
When the second user takes control, the writing appears at the bottom PLAYER 2. The tabs that the guest can access are BATTLE PASS, CHALLENGES, LOCKER, STORE ITEMS, CAREER e V-BUCK.
