ImpostorThis article might be helpful for nuevosFor those of you who have recently started playing Among Us, this article can help you learn the basic mechanics of the game.

El Impostor is one of two roles randomly assigned at the start of the game in Among Us. Your goal is to kill most of the Crewmembers to win.

    Summary

    goals

The main objective of The Imposters is to kill enough Crewmembers to have an equal number of Imposters and Crewmembers before all tasks are completed.

Imposters cannot complete any tasks; However, they are given a bogus task list as a general guide to feigning a Crewman's behavior and mingling with them. Imposters have the Sabotage ability to force Crewmen to resolve issues, with some Sabotages killing all Crewmen if not resolved in time. This ability can be used in many different ways, such as crewmates who drifted away from a body or hiding a kill.

There are two ways that imposters win:

    • Eliminating Crew Members until they no longer have a voting majority.
    • The enactment of a Critical Sabotage that is not resolved in time.

Imposters primarily eliminate crewmates through killing them during gameplay or confusing the crew by expelling innocent players. Crewmembers leaving, disconnected, or being kicked out of the game also contribute to this objective.

    Probability of being an Imposter

Depending on the game options, there can be one to three Imposters in a game. Imposters are chosen randomly when the game starts. Each player has an equal chance to be the imposter. This opportunity does not change, regardless of any player's registration as a Deceiver or Crewman or their color; it is consistently random among all players.

    Ejection animations

    Main article: Expulsion

Imposters, if voted in during an urgent meeting, will be kicked off the map and killed in the process.

    • In The Skeld, The Deceiver is thrown through the airlock and into outer space, spinning as he ejects himself.
    • In MIRA HQ, he is dropped from the station to fall to his death.
    • In Polus, it is thrown into a crater of lava. If confirm ejects is enabled, The Deceiver will display a thumbs-up when falling into lava. Simultaneously, an innocent Crewman will hold their hand as if they are seeking help. If confirm ejects are not enabled, they will not raise their hand.

If there are still other Imposters left after one is expelled, that Impostor will become a ghost. However, if there are no impostors alive, the crew immediately wins. As a ghost, Imposters can continue to sabotage the map to aid their fellow Imposters, but they cannot kill, talk to fellow Imposters, or vote.

    Skills

    Matar

    Main article: Kill

An Imposter can Kill Crewmen. Killing a Crewman leaves a corpse where they were killed, and the Crewman turns into a ghost. Kill has a cooldown of 10-60 seconds and a kill distance of short, normal or long, depending on the options.

In the Deceiver's view, upon killing someone, the player's body is broken in half, where, after a few seconds, it falls to the ground, exposing their bone. As the murder occurs, The Deceiver will teleport the player in a flurry of gray squiggles, blood will rip, and the body will collapse after a few seconds. In the opinion of the crew victim, as his body falls to the ground, an animation is shown, which can appear in different ways; Either the crewmate is shot, stabbed multiple times, impaled by the impostor's tongue, seen in the neck, or shot with the impostor's laser, as seen in the official trailer for The Airship.

The kill recharge time is shortened to 10 seconds in the first round, before any emergency meeting, and set to the standard cooldown after you've killed someone or an emergency meeting.

The kill recharge time is stopped while The Deceiver is using one of the following:

    • Ducts.
    • Security cameras.
    • Administration map.
    • Emergency button.
    • Registration - at MIRA HQ.
    • Constants - on Polus and The Airship.
    • Resolving Tampers, including Tampering of doors in Polus.
    • Customize the menu (Free mode).

Killing also forces the Deceiver to instantly move the Crewman.

    Sabotage

    Main article: Sabotage

An Imposter can Sabotage, creating a problem that Crewmen can ignore, wait for, or fix. Imposters can fix your Sabotage, which can help them avoid suspicion. Imposters who are ghosts can also Sabotage. In The Skeld and Polus, imposters can lock doors to hinder player movement or hide suspicious activity. Ghosts cannot fix sabotage.

Reactor Meltdown, Depleted Oxygen, Reset Seismic Stabilizers, and Avoid Collision Path are Sabotages that, if left uncorrected, will result in an instant victory for The Imposters. Repairing Lights or Sabotaged Communications are Sabotages that will not result in a victory, but will make it more difficult for Crewmembers to perform tasks or identify Imposters. Imposters can use Sabotage to create opportunities to make plays or distract the Crew. Tampers also prevent the emergency button from being used, with the exception of Door Tamper.

    Conduit

    Main article: Conduit (

    The ventilate icon.

Imposters can hide in conduits. Conduit allows Imposters to hide or move quickly around the map. When An Imposter is close enough to a conduit, the Sabotage button will be replaced by the Conduit button. However, hiding in a conduit stops the kill and Sabotage cooldowns until The Deceiver exits the conduit. The admin map can still detect Imposters hidden in the ducts of a room.

    Inform

    Main article: Report

    The report icon.

When a player is near a corpse, the report button becomes usable. Like the Crewman, Imposters can use this ability to report corpses anywhere. When reporting, this starts a discussion, where players can discuss who The Deceiver is. Imposters can use the report button to gain the trust of the Crewmembers or for other reasons.

    Use

Imposters also have the ability to use that allows them to interact with the emergency button, the administration map, security cameras, Constants and Registration. Imposters can also use the ability to use to resolve Sabotage.

    Curiosities

    • According to the official Innersloth site, The Deceiver is confirmed as an alien and is described as a "parasitic shapeshifter". It is further implied for the following reasons:
      • One of the ways The Deceiver kills his victim shows them opening their rather large mouth full of sharp teeth, then impaling the Crewman's head with their spear tongue, killing them. This also implies that the spacesuit and other cosmetics worn by The Imposters are also part of their organic bodies, unlike the Crewmates, whose hats fall off when they are killed.
      • Another attack is The Impostor breaking the Crewman's neck, which implies that the Imposters are very strong.
        • However, it only takes two Crewmen to kick out an Imposter, which means that Imposters are only strong enough to take down one Crewman at a time.
      • Imposters will win if oxygen is depleted, which implies that Imposters can survive without oxygen. However, this may not be the case, as Imposters can still die from being thrown into space. Of course, the victory scenario may be due to The Deceiver simply unable to return to the ship or unable to survive outside the ship for some reason (such as relying on a different gas to breathe or getting too cold in space).
      • If the recommended setting is enabled in the game options, Crewmen will have x1 vision, and Imposters will have x1.5, which means they can see better than Crewmates on average.
      • Impostors' vision is unaffected during Fix Lights or in the Darkroom in Main Hall, which means they can see in the dark.
      • Running Send Scan in Medical Wing is perhaps the best known way of proving that one is a Crewman, which implies that The Deceiver does not want the Crewmembers to know their anatomy, as that would reveal them as An Deceiver.
      • The Imposters also appear to have the same heart rate as the Crewmen, as shown by the Constants in Polus and The Airship readings.
    • The Imposters seem quite intelligent, capable of Sabotaging advanced technology and blending in perfectly with the Crewmen.
    • The origin and true objective of Los Impostores is unknown. They are not predatory aliens looking for food, as they do not consume the corpses of those they kill, unless that is where the upper half of the Crewman's body goes when it dies. Their species may have sent them to conquer the Crewman's species.
