When a heart yields to darkness, a Heartless is created, leaving an empty shell, without a heart, but with a soul, the so-called Nobodies. These Nobodies do not exist, but "are". The most common form of Nobodies are the Umbrians, but there are also some weaker, like the Creeper, or much stronger, like the Dragon. But there are some Nobodies who preserve their human figure, their soul, their memories, but without a heart, these Nobodies have come together to create the so-called Organization XIII.

The Nobodies, when destroyed, cannot regenerate like the Heartless since they do not have a heart and simply disappear to never be seen again, their positions are filled by others of their same class. Their home is called The Inexistent World, referring to the cruel fate that happened to them by not being able to be human but not Heartless.

The Nobodies are in theory stronger than the Heartless, in the battle between Saïx and Maleficent, it can be seen how the Umbrians easily eliminate the Heartless summoned by the witch, in addition to the fact that they apparently have no mind of their own and are controlled by the older Nobodies.

When they die they disappear in white flashes but those who form Organization XIII disappear in a slower and sadder way, turning into ashes that little by little are extinguished along with the weapons they possessed.

Apparently, Nobodies continue to grow regardless of the separation, since apparently the differences between Naminé from Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories to Kingdom Hearts II and in the beginning of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance it is seen that all six Organization XIII originals lose their hearts not long after the end of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep.

The only Nobody of Organization XIII still alive is Roxas joined together with Sora. Another of the living Nobodies joined to his complete being is Naminé who joins together with Kairi.
