Keyblade War

«In ancient times, people believed that light was a gift, from a never seen land called Kingdom Hearts. But Kingdom Hearts was safeguarded by its counterpart, the χ-Blade. In a war they competed for that precious light, thus beginning the "War of the Keyblades". The violent clash broke the χ-Blade into twenty pieces, seven of light and thirteen of darkness. And only the true Kingdom Hearts was swallowed up by darkness, never surfacing again. »- Master Xehanort

La Keyblade War (キ ー ブ レ ー ド 戦 争 Kīburēdo Sensō?) Is a legendary conflict that occurred long before the events of the Kingdom Hearts saga, yet it is a major driving force behind the events of the Dark Seeker Saga.

The conflict

In the "era of fairy tales", the World was whole and full of light, believed to have come from Kingdom Hearts, which was protected by its counterpart, the Keyblade χ. Over time, people began to desire the power of Kingdom Hearts, the introduction of darkness into the world.

In order to take control of Kingdom Hearts, many Keyblade bearers with the image of the χ-Blade, fought together in a major conflict that engulfed the entire world. In the end, darkness covered the World, and the Keyblade χ shattered into twenty pieces, seven of pure light and thirteen of pure darkness, and the "real" Kingdom Hearts disappeared into darkness.

However, the world was restored by the light in the hearts of children, but like many particular worlds separated from each other. The remnants of the battlefield on which the Keyblade War took place became the Keyblade Necropolis, a land scarred from the Keyblades of fallen warriors. The remaining Keyblade Bearers decided to protect the world from further destruction, becoming guardians of world order.

The history of the War of the Keyblades has become a legend, and the Keyblade was depicted both as a carrier of chaos and destruction, and as a weapon to save the world.

Interest of Xehanort

Generations later, a Keyblade Master named Xehanort investigated the Keyblade War and decided to uncover the mysteries that took place at the end of the Keyblade War through the creation of the Keyblade χ, summoning Kingdom Hearts and unleashing another War of the Keyblades. His motivation was to recreate the world as a balance between light and dark, a balance that he believed was lost in today's world. Xehanort discussed his interest with his colleague and former fellow student, Master Eraqus, but Eraqus tried to stop him, believing that Xehanort has succumbed to darkness.

Years later, Master Xehanort attempts to forge the Keyblade χ by facing a heart of pure light and a heart of pure darkness face to face. To this end, he forces to remove the darkness from the heart of his disciple, Ventus, creating Vanitas. When Ventus barely survives the process, Xehanort leaves Ventus in the care of Master Eraqus, hoping that his light would grow strong enough for him to confront Vanitas. Eventually, he manipulates Ventus into fighting Vanitas at the Keyblade Necropolis and he fuses the two, creating the Keyblade χ. However, the union is imperfect, and the Keyblade χ is destroyed by the combined efforts of Ventus and Aqua.

As a side plan, Ansem, the Seeker of Darkness, before obtaining Riku's body as a vessel, travels back in time and reunites with the younger Master Xehanort, sending him on a mission to create an Organization of thirteen different incarnations. from Xehanort, thirteen darkness of Master Xehanort to face seven lights, as it is the true mechanism to recreate the χ-Blade and start another War of the Keyblades. The New Organization XIII includes Master Xehanort, Young Xehanort, Ansem, Xemnas, Xigbar, Saïx, and six other hooded figures. Master Xehanort's plan to seize Sora as the final vessel for his essence is thwarted when Riku, Mickey, Lea, Donald, and Goofy intervene, and the current twelve members disappear, returning to their proper points in time for the moment.
