    Latent Consciousness

Latent Consciousness It is a manifestation of the will and feelings of the wielder of the Keyblade, Terra, who reside within his abandoned armor after his body was stolen by Master Xehanort. He is a playable character briefly at the end of Terra's story in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep and the most dangerous secret boss in Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix.

His name, Latent Consciousness, is based on Terra's strong feeling, in not letting the darkness and Xehanort dominate his body and in the name of the force field that he creates by fighting him.

    Summary

    Pepito's Diary

    Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix

A man connected to the portal who appeared at Disney Castle. The armor covering his body can wield much more power than Sora is capable of with the Keyblade. He is also capable of shapeshifting the Keyblade.

    History

    Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep

Just as Master Xehanort possesses the body of Terra and transforms it into Terra-Xehanort, Terra's will and feelings are linked to her armor and this leads the armor to come to life, being known as Latent Consciousness.

    Latent Consciousness Latent Consciousness

    Latent Consciousness before fighting Terra-Xehanort.

The Latent Consciousness, determined not to let Master Xehanort escape under any circumstances, creates a giant chained force field, to trap Terra-Xehanort. Enraged by Terra's defiance, Terra-Xehanort engages in combat against the Latent Consciousness. Finally, the Latent Consciousness is victorious, striking Terra-Xehanort and knocking him unconscious. Later, the Latent Consciousness plunges its Keyblade into the earth and, adopting a kneeling pose as a sign of reverence and rest, remains motionless. Soon after, Terra-Xehanort is consumed by an immense sphere of light, the result of Aqua and Ventus destroying the Keyblade χ after the defeat of Vanitas himself. The clouds above that covered Kingdom Hearts disappear above, leaving Latent Consciousness alone in the Keyblade Necropolis, in a promise of silence. Aqua looks at Ventus, and swears that one day they would come back to fix things and get the 3 of them back together.

    Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix

Eleven years later, a portal leading to the Keyblade Necropolis mysteriously appears at Disney Castle. Sora, Donald and Goofy proceed to enter the portal and find Latent Consciousness in the same position that it had been eleven years ago. Then there is a metallic echo like distant words in which the Latent Consciousness mentions Aqua, Ventus and the Keyblade. He then wonders if Sora is that boy "he had chosen" and realizing that he is not, he wonders why it is not "him". Then seeing that he is not "his chosen one", he believes that the presence he feels is Xehanort and after pronouncing his name slowly, he slowly gets up, plucks Postrimeria from the ground and attacks the group. Sora and his friends defend themselves in combat, and win the battle with great effort, and the Latent Consciousness kneels again after this and returns to the original position of reverence. Sora can return to fight Latent Consciousness again as many times as he wants.

In Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, when you start the confrontation with him, he says the following:

    • "Aqua .... Come .... Keyblade ... Who are you? I can feel it ... that we had met before ... it was when .... no, it's not you ... you are not you whom I chose ... Why isn't he? ... Xe ... ha ... nort "
    • "Is it you? ... Xeha ... nort .... XEHANORT !!"

When he says "you are not the one I chose" he means when he talks to Riku, even as a child, in the Destiny Islands in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. And when he says "Is it you?" he refers to Xehanort, who he thinks has come back for him.

    After the fight he says:

    • "I see, your strength ... what I detect in you is ..."

In which he probably refers to Sora being the chosen one of the Keyblade because of the relationship he has with Ventus and Aqua. It is likely that in future installments, Sora and the others will rescue the three protagonists who are in the World of Darkness (Aqua), in the Castle of Oblivion (Ven), and in the Necropolis of the Keyblades (Terra ). It could also be that it detects Ventus's heart inside Sora.

    Skills

    Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix

Latent Consciousness is perhaps the most difficult secret boss in Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix to defeat, being tougher even than Sephiroth. His most basic movements are made by attacking with his keyblade, Postrimería.

It has the 12 bars of VT available and the most interesting thing about this final boss is that although all its attacks are carried out with the keyblade, it can change shape to several different weapons, which the Latent Consciousness uses with incredible skill, its attacks are described below:

    • Rising Sun: He rises in the air and charges three times with his Keyblade against our heroes, causing them serious damage.
    • Grooving Key: Latent Consciousness will turn Postrimería into a space motorcycle and will launch at high speed against our heroes. He will also use spells while riding her, specifically Bursting Ice ++, Magneto ++, and Electro ++.
    • Fast Counterattack- Will turn Postrimeria into a whip and deliver high-speed blows that will knock you back and send you flying away from him.
    • Persevering Fist- Will turn Postrimería into a gauntlet and give you a 3-punch combo, the last one dealing multiple damage.
    • Artema Canyon: Right shot from Terra and also one of the available attacks from this enemy. He will turn his Keyblade into a large cannon, which shoots a huge ball of energy at you.
    • Physical Seal: Latent Consciousness will pounce on Sora and pin Postrimeria to the ground in the shape of a scepter, creating an orange seal that will make Sora unable to attack with the "attack" command. To get rid of the seal you have to attack Latent Consciousness with spells or Limits, until the secondary health bar it has is empty.
    • Magic Seal: It happens the same as in the previous attack, but this time it has a blue color, and it will prevent you from using spells and limits. To free yourself you must do the same as in the Physical Seal.
    • Arch of Light: It will turn Postrimería into a bow, and it will disappear 3 times, each time launching a projectile of light in the shape of an arrow. If he hits you with one of the arrows, it will cause Sora's life to drop continuously and will cause your commandos to rotate and spin without stopping. To free yourself from this terrible attack, you will have to mark the option in the "Break Free" commands.
    • Guided Projectile: Latent Consciousness will spawn 6 arrow-shaped projectiles that will follow you and launch lasers when they come within range.
    • Void Arcanum: This is undoubtedly his most dangerous attack, and it consists of three phases. In the first, he will change the structure of Postrimería to a kind of mace somewhat larger than normal, and he will attack you with a chained 6-hit combo that will end with an ending in which he will hit the ground and launch a small energy beam towards in front of. During the second phase, he will perform another transformation on his keyblade and divide it into two parts, then he will teleport where you are, and he will hit you with a hail of blows with a kind of barrier that he will make by rotating the separated parts of the key. Finally, he will turn Postrimería into a huge Claymore and perform a combo in which he will attack you three times by teleporting, two horizontally crossed and once from the sky that will make a hit with energy in an X shape, and then he will execute a physical combo of 7 chained shots followed by another tele-transport and a final, much more powerful rotating shot.

In this combat it is very important to have activated the abilities: Somersault, Once again, Last Rattle, Block, Final +, Negative Combo, Madness Charge, Healthy Blade and Libra. Also equip yourself with various ultra potions or omnielixirs, and create direct links to these items and to the Reflection ++ and Cura ++ magics. As a weapon against him, choose the one that suits you best, although at this point in the game, if you have the Artema Weapon or Triumphal Trial, they will serve you against him. It should also be noted that all his attacks are perfectly blockable, either physically or with Reflection, although for "Void Arcanum" it is advisable to use the Glider skill at maximum level to constantly move away from him, especially during the second phase of the attack. Finally, a minimum level of 70 would be advisable to be victorious without problems.

    Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep

When played with Latent Consciousness during the final battle against Xehanort in the Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep graveyard, he retains his equipped attack and healing commands, but loses full use of his D-Link. To maintain Terra's immense power, Latent Consciousness has access to all of her equipped abilities before battle begins, including accurate shots, and action commands. Of course, if you had a weapon other than Post-Trimtery, that weapon will be exchanged for this one, since the pre-selected Latent Consciousness weapon is Post-Trimtery.

    Arma

    Latent Consciousness

When the Xehanort possessed Terra's body, it sacrificed both its armor and the Keyblade Postrimeria, Terra's ancient weapon. Because Terra's feelings and will took up residence in his armor, it was capable of wielding Postrimeria to defeat Xehanort. Aftermath would then remain with Latent Consciousness in his solitude in the Necropolis of the Keyblades, and it would not be until eleven years later that the armor used the Keyblade for the second time in the battle against Sora.

Latent Consciousness due to being a manifestation of the will and power of Terra possesses extraordinary combat power and abilities, being able to transform Postrimeria in several different ways (something that other keyblade masters have been seen doing, such as Xehanort in her form Noheart, Ven and Aqua, in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, it can be seen that Lea has a keyblade, but to fight she uses her chakrams, this may be because Lea also knows how to use the transformation ability of the key to form his old weapons, which would be a great explanation for his way of acting and attack, although they are only conjectures and it is not proven).

He shares Terra's ability to summon a Grooving Key, and uses it in a similar way to him, although to Latent Consciousness it serves only as an offensive technique and to Terra it served in addition to that, as a means of transportation. Other forms that Post-Trimester can take through influencing Latent Consciousness include: a whip, Terra's Artema Cannon, a piercing glove, a scepter, a bow (similar to the one Aqua used to use in space), a Claymore, and a mace.

With the exception of Artema Cannon and Surcadora Key (slider), the rest of the forms were each used for a single Post-Threat attack when it is dominated by Latent Consciousness (it is unknown if in future installments, the protagonists will be able to have similar attacks, although Terra, Ven and Aqua had them). The armor is also a darker color in Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix than in Birth By Sleep, but the weapon is identical to the one Terra possessed, except that it does not have a keychain.

    Personality

Latent Consciousness is really a hollow armor moved only by strong will and feelings, so that deep down it cannot feel or possess a personality of its own. Since he was brought to life by Terra's feelings and emotions, however, he is able to "feel" a strong hatred towards Xehanort, devotion to Aqua and Ventus, and a close familiarity with Riku and Sora.

    Appearance

Latent Consciousness looks like the Armor of Terra only hollow. The helmet is mostly made of gold, except for the visor, which is black, and has two red tips, one on each side of the helmet, pointing upwards, these ornaments may remind of a canine shape like the jackal. The arms, legs, and ribs of the armor are black and orange in color that have decoration patterns. His armored knee pads, gloves, breastplate, and boots are gold, and there are other smaller pieces of gold armor on his legs. He wears black shoulder pads edged with gold. The front of the armor on Latent Consciousness torso is colored red, as there are small pieces of armor on its legs and gloves. It is also used for the gold ankle with red studs in the back that curves up sharply.

In Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, the Latent Consciousness armor appears to be much darker in coloration, either from the lack of light in the Keyblade Necropolis, or the long period of time spent there simply faded the color. armor. He also wears a cape that is gold on the outside and dark blue on the inside. This cape was removed from the Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep design, to avoid lag issues in the character's locomotion.

Since it is the manifestation of the spirit and feelings of Terra, Latent Consciousness uses its main Keyblade, Postrimeria, in all its appearances. When Latent Consciousness is created in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, it changes its Keyblade to Postimeria, regardless of the Keyblade Terra was using up to that point.

At the end of Terra's story in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Latent Consciousness briefly dialogues with Terra's voice with an echo tone, since the interior of the armor is hollow, however, in Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, it appears communicating with Sora through the use of metallic sounds, although Sora, Donald and Goofy understand it perfectly, possibly this is because until Birth by Sleep, Terra did not yet have a voice actor.

    Other appearances

    Kingdom Hearts Re: Coded

Although he does not physically appear in the game, Latent Consciousness appears briefly in the opening sequence shown on his knees after defeating Terra-Xehanort.

    Curiosities

    • When Xehanort confronts Latent Consciousness, he says that the only thing about Terra that is revealed is her mind, so this could break Ansem's theory that the body is made up of body, soul and heart, having to add the mind to it.
    • The above also indicates that the known Persistent Feelings (Terra / Latent Consciousness, Eraqus / Master's Armor, and Xehanort / Noheart) could be exclusively controlled by the mind of the corresponding Keyblade wielder.
    • The only two people who have fought with Latent Consciousness are Sora and Xehanort, protagonist of the series and antagonist, respectively.
    • Latent Consciousness is the only character in the series so far, whose theme, "Rage Awakened" (English "Rage Awakened"), is played when fighting against it and playing as him.
    • Latent Consciousness is erroneously described as "a man covered in armor", in Pepito's Diary in Kingdom Hearts II, although it is actually Terra's hollow armor.
    • Latent Consciousness, is the bearer of the Keyblade, which has shown more versatility and power of change when fighting with its key, as it transforms it into various weapons with ease. It is unknown if in other installments the protagonists will have this control, but until now it has been seen that characters such as Xehanort (in his Noheart form), Aqua and Ventus, also have this transformation capacity, especially Noheart who is also capable of turning his key in an endless number of weapons (crossbow, clamp, wings, leg, etc). In Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, it can be seen that Lea obtains a Keyblade but continues to fight with her chakrams, it is possible that this is because her key is also capable of transforming into her ancient and famous weapons, still not there is nothing confirmed or denied about it.

    and references

↑ Nomura: "We wanted to make as many people as possible could play together as possible, but in the end only six could be made. By the way, in the secret Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix movie you can see Terra's armor with cape, but the cape was removed in this game. It was to make the process easier when playing with six people. The processing of moving fabric can be slow, so the running speed is completely different if it has a cape or not.
