    Kingdom Hearts Re:coded

Knight from Radiant Garden. He escaped to Ciudad de Paso with Cid when his world was attacked by darkness. To break with his past where he could not protect his hometown, he abandoned his name and called himself León, Since then he has fought against the forces of evil. Thanks to Sora's intervention, he managed to return to his city to try to rebuild it.

    History

    Before Kingdom Hearts

Squall Leonhart grew up in the world of Radiant Orchard, until he was consumed by darkness. Embarrassed and angry that he was unable to defend his home and loved ones from the Heartless, Squall assumed the name "Lion" in order to distance himself from his past, vowing never to use his real name again until the Heartless were defeated and his world restored. León awakens in Ciudad de Paso, along with other refugees from Vergel Radiante: Yuffie, Aerith, and Cid, none of whom changed their names the way León did. During his teens, Leon led the fight against the Heartless, keeping an area of Ciudad de Paso safe (District 1) against Maleficent and the rising wave of Heartless. He was also known for traveling between the worlds in his Gumi Ship, assisting other refugees in distress and relocating them to Paso City. His actions did not go unnoticed, eventually gaining the attention and trust of King Mickey, who was watching the escalating battle with rage and caution.

    Kingdom Hearts

Nine years after the fall of Radiant Garden, now called Hollow Bastion, when the wielder of the Keyblade was revealed, King Mickey ordered Goofy and Donald Duck to find Leon, trusting that he would inform them of the circumstances and help them find Sora. It turned out, however, that Leon had already found Sora in District 1 of Paso City, challenging him to a duel. After defeating Sora, he takes him to a hotel room in Paso City. There, Leon and Yuffie explained to Sora about the Heartless and his fate as the Chosen of the Keyblade. Uniting Sora with the newcomers, Donald and Goofy, Leon sends them on their way.

    León

When Sora, Donald, and Goofy returned to Paso City in search of Leon's help, they found him on the secret channel training. Here I give you information about the lock of each world that leads to the heart of the world. He explains that the Heartless are drawn to the power of the heart and the corrupt, causing the world to disappear. This is why Sora's Keyblade is so important, because it has the power to seal the locks.

Leon also offers Sora his Glow of Earth charm, which contained Simba's spirit. Later, at the house in District 3, Leon and company tell Sora about Maleficent and about Ansem and his reports.

Leon also offers Geppetto and Pinocchio a place to live in District 1 of Ciudad de Paso, after escaping from Monstruo.

After escaping from Hollow Bastion, Sora, Donald, Goofy, and Kairi seek refuge with Leon's group in Paso City. Sora informed Leon of everything that had happened, prompting him to follow Sora and company to the final battle with Maleficent at Hollow Hold. After Sora defeats the Heartless Behemoth, keeper of the keyhole of Hollow Bastion, Leon is waiting for his farewell, because after Sora seals the hearts of all the worlds, Kingdom Hearts, the two groups part ways. .

In the credits, Leon, Yuffie, and Aerith can be seen wandering the Hollow Bastion Library. After Sora sealed Kingdom Hearts, Leon, Yuffie, and Aerith reunited with Cloud and Cid at Hollow Bastion.

    Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories

Leon does not actually appear in Chain of Memories, the versions of Leon and the other characters from Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories that also appeared in the first game are actually reflections of Sora's memories.

Because of this, when Leon and his friends meet Sora they have no recollection of meeting him, but somehow they knew his name. Like the Lion from the first game, the Lion from Sora's memories, he decides to help him, such as teaching Sora the card-based system, as well as providing Simba's card. Before Sora leaves, Leon assures him that he will be fine, and that although he cannot remember Sora, he knows that he is in his heart.

    Kingdom Hearts II

In Kingdom Hearts II, Leon is a little more cheerful than he was in Kingdom Hearts, since he and the others are in their home world. Leon is also the leader of the Hollow Bastion Restoration Committee, which is made up of Final Fantasy characters from the first Kingdom Hearts returning to this world and Merlin.

    León León

    Leon and Cloud before fighting

He fights alongside Sora in one of the fights near the beginning of the game, when no one attempted to make a move in the city. Sleeping Lion, a keyblade in Kingdom Hearts II, is another reference to Squall.

During the Battle of the 1000 Heartless, he, along with many other characters, helps fight the Heartless. He and Cloud are also shown in a video, each propped up behind each other and surrounded by Heartless, and briefly joke before attacking their enemies.

By the time Sora visits him again, the city is infested with Heartless from Paranoid Space. While Sora, Donald, and Goofy went to Paranoid Space to help Tron, Leon goes to collect the Eradicator Program that Cid has been working on in order to defeat the Master Control Program for good. Later, the PCM is destroyed and Tron is able to remind everyone of the city's true name, Radiant Garden.

During the end credits of the game, he is seen at Merlin's house, reading a letter that produces a strange glowing butterfly shape that floats towards the ceiling and then vanishes.

Leon plays the most important role of any Final Fantasy character in Kingdom Hearts II, he is the only Final Fantasy character who has a relationship with King Mickey, and works closely with Sora and company. Leon is also the only Final Fantasy character in the game to come face to face with Organization XIII and fight the Nobodies. He seems to be a good friend to both Cloud and Aerith.

    Kingdom Hearts Coded

After Data Sora collects all the Final Cards in the Castle of Oblivion, Data Roxas allows him to open the last door and discover the truth behind the damage. Data Sora moves to open the door, Leon and Yuffie's illusions appear to congratulate him on keeping Paso City safe, explaining that something urgent happened that they had to deal with. They express their willingness to one day work alongside him, and give him a Scrubber A and the Heatsink Attachment before leaving.

    Appearance

In Kingdom Hearts, Leon's appearance is similar to his original appearance from Final Fantasy VIII, but with several differences. It bears some resemblance to Tetsuya Nomura's original design for Squall Leonhart, sporty, long brown hair compared to the short hair he wore in the original game. Leon wears black gloves with straps on them, black, zipper-lined shoes, a silver necklace, and a white T-shirt, and his short jacket. Leon's jacket, lacking a fur collar, is short-sleeved, while Squall's sleeves in Final Fantasy were quite wide, it has red wings on the back, probably similar to the Rinoa duster. Leon wears three brown belts on his left forearm and has three buckles on his right and left thigh, while he wore three black belts on his right thigh in Final Fantasy VIII. León's black pants are also divided into a vertical zipper down the side of each leg. Leon wears two brown and black ribbons around his hips, which are quite loose, except for one, a black one placed correctly around his waist. In Final Fantasy VIII, he only wore two brown belts. His eyes are blue and he wears his characteristic scar, which runs diagonally across the bridge of his nose.

In Kingdom Hearts II, Leon's appearance changes slightly to match his more original appearance. Her hair becomes a lighter shade of brown and shorter, and her bangs are towards the left side of her face in the same way as her hair in Final Fantasy VIII. He also adds white fur to the collar of his jacket, it was absent in Kingdom Hearts.

In both of his appearances, Leon wields his Pistol-Saber.

    Personality

When Sora first meets Leon, his personality is that of a quiet, withdrawn loner. He eventually opens up to become a more caring person, as seen when he's worried about Sora, Donald, Goofy, and safety in the aftermath of the 1000 Heartless battle. Although he appears as gloomy and brooding in Kingdom Hearts, after returning to Hollow Bastion, in Kingdom Hearts II he appears to be more cheerful, is seen to smile more often, and also has a friendly rivalry with Cloud. Leon also has good leadership qualities that he displays throughout both games, reflecting the character development of the original Squall Leonhart from Final Fantasy VIII, who started out as a brooding and distracted loner but eventually grew into a good friend and leader thanks to your friends. Leon also stands out among the characters in the Hollow Bastion Final Fantasy series. For example, Leon leads the Hollow Bastion Restoration Committee and is the only Final Fantasy character in the group that originated in Final Fantasy VIII.

    Skills

He uses his pistol-saber to deal damage with various blows, sometimes using the power of fire. When his AP drops, he uses a desperation attack that causes his pistol saber to dramatically increase in attack, allowing him to do much more damage and have a longer range.

Portrait of Squall Leonhart in Final Fantasy VIII.

Squall is born 17 years before the main story in Winhill, Galbadia. His father, Laguna Loire, never knew that Raine was pregnant, since he was in Esthar, trying to save Eleone - a girl who, being orphaned, is adopted by Raine. He recognizes Laguna as his precious "Uncle" -. Raine dies after giving birth, so Squall and Eleone are sent to an orphanage located west of the devastated continent of Centra.

The orphanage, run by Edea Kramer, becomes the house in which Squall lives his childhood and, despite the presence of other children his age, establishes a sibling relationship only with Eleone, who would represent an older sister for him. . Eleone's great hidden power - sending the conscience of the people she meets to other times - leads the White Seeds - a group of young people who have also been raised in the orphanage - take her to a safe place. Thus, the ship in which they travel becomes their new home - and the ship is really a kind of mobile orphanage. Consequently Squall, upon losing Eleone, believes that Eleone has abandoned him. Due to the emotional pain caused by this assumption, he develops a defense mechanism that would lead him to be an emotionless boy, with a cynical and introverted attitude, someone willing to live life without having any type of emotional bond or dependencies, so he does not he would have to suffer the pain of losing someone again. This is the source of his lonely and antisocial nature in him during the first part of the game and it will progressively change.

As he theorizes himself, he was never adopted due to his difficult personality, so sometime during the period when he turned 6 he was admitted to the Garden of Balamb, where he would train and become Seed. Either because they choose the pistol saber as their weapon or due to the conflictive nature of the second, Squall Leonheart and Seifer Almasy become fierce rivals. This rivalry will be known to students and teachers alike for as long as Squall lives in the Garden.

Over the years it acquires the title of "Lone Wolf". Both students and teachers find him difficult to deal with, but always respect his intellect and his strength. It should be noted the fact that Squall, as he uses the Guardians of the Force, either during his training or on his missions, is forgetting the less important events of his life, leaving only a few, the most famous being the day in Eleone leaves him: a day of torrential rain and utter sadness in which Squall makes the aforementioned promise to himself.

Entering the early stage of the game, we play as Squall, who is preparing to graduate Seed, completing a training mission together with his instructor, Quistis Trape, and the Seed practical exam, also undertaken by Zell Dincht, Selphie Tilmitt, Nida and Seifer. Everyone succeeds except the last one, due to his thirst for blood, which leads him to violate orders.

During the spring quarter housewarming dance, Squall meets Rinoa Heartilly when she invites him to dance. Later he learns that she is his first client and a key member of the forest owls, a resistance group from Timber, a city that has been taken over by Galbadia before the protagonist's birth. Thus, along with Selphie and Zell, they would fail to obtain independence from Timber, which leads to Rinoa deciding to travel with them, following the clauses of the contract. During this first mission Squall and Rinoa criticize each other and never agree, showing very different: one is an "unscrupulous mercenary, unable to do anything apart from following orders", and the other is "Part of a gang of amateurs, who modify their plans by thinking about them on the fly and who do not take anything seriously. " .

On their way to the Garden of Galbadia this situation continues, but arriving they would focus attention on a new mission together of the two Gardens: assassinate the witch Edea, who manages to deceive the president to seize power, during the ceremony of his taking. of power as the new ambassador of Galbadia. A new team member, Irvine Kinneas, is assigned to help them. With Squall as the group's leader they take a train to Deling to meet with their new client, General Calway, only to find themselves at the epicenter of a father-daughter argument between Caraway and Rinoa.

Thus, the details of the mission are explained to them: Irvine, as a sniper, would be in charge of shooting the witch at the moment in which the secondary group of Seeds - Quistis, Zell and Selphie - stopped the float in which it would be mounted. Edea during the ceremony. Squall's role as leader would be to make the right decision in case something doesn't go according to plan. And that's exactly what happens: first, Rinoa fails in her plan to neutralize the witch on her own, resulting in her being kidnapped, so Squall and Irvine go to rescue her. The secondary group is trapped in Caraway's mansion, although they manage to fulfill their mission by taking an underground route to the triumphal arch, where they had to operate the mechanism. Here Irvine comes in and doesn't miss the shot, but the alert witch fights back, so Squall decides to confront her face to face, pushing his way through the crowd. He faces Seifer, whom he manages to defeat. Irvine and Rinoa then go to help him, but after a long and hard battle they are defeated when Squall is mortally wounded.

Squall awakens only to find himself imprisoned and tortured by Seifer in the D-District Prison. It is during this interrogation, that Squall learns that Edea has ordered a missile attack against the Gardens of Balamb and Trabia. Squall, with the help of his teammates, escapes and immediately informs them of what is going to happen. They split into two groups: one, led by Squall, to warn Balamb of the missile attack, and the other, led by Selphie, to sabotage the missile base and stop the launch. Squall marches to Balamb Garden to warn of the impending missile attack by the Galbadian forces in retaliation for the attempt on the life of the Sorceress Edea.

However, upon arrival, the Garden is in the midst of chaos, as a mysterious faction with loyalty to Master Garden NORG, founder of the Balamb Garden, has led a revolt against Headmaster Cid. While helping people who cross his path, Squall seeks out the Headmaster to warn him of the missiles, and finally finds him entrenched in his office. The Headmaster points out to Squall of the Garden's former condition as a mobile base created by the Centra. After the activation of the old system, the Garden transforms into a mobile fortress and avoids destruction by the missiles for seconds. After cleaning up the loose ends, due to the rebellion of the Master's Faction, the Garden already on the high seas, they meet the White SeeD ships and they ask Ellone (who was hiding in the Garden) to return to them. better protection.

When the Garden collides with Fisherman Horizon due to the lack of a governing body, Squall and his group are ordered to act as ambassadors and issue a formal apology. The Mor Dobe, the pacifist leader of the city, tells them that they must leave immediately, as his presence will only bring destruction. The Galbadian Soldiers finally invade the city, and Dobe leaves to argue peacefully with them. However, the soldiers do not listen, and Squall is forced to fight the soldiers in order to save Dobe's life. During the fight, Squall and his team manage to reunite with the missile base team, which they didn't know a word about until then. In a strange event, Squall is very happy that they are alive and well, something that Rinoa does not miss. After the battle, Dobe reluctantly accepts the team's apology, and orders the city technicians to help restore the Balamb Garden in its entirety.

Soon after, Cid reveals to them that he is in fact the husband of the Sorceress Edea, and presents his resignation as Headmaster of the Balamb Garden, but first appoints Squall as the new Commander of the Garden, a decision that Squall is not entirely satisfactory. To show their support for him, Selphie and Irvine organize a concert in honor of Squall, and Rinoa has a nice chat with him, encouraging him to trust them, since they trusted him, and letting him know that everyone would support him. After the Garden is repaired, Xu and Quistis are appointed as advisers to Squall and Squall determines the course to the city of Balamb, only to discover that it is currently occupied by the Galbadian Army. At his first command, Squall frees Squall. Balamb from the occupation of Galbadia after defeating Fujin and Raijin.

His next order was to head for the Trabia Garden, Selphie's home. And he offered the support to the Trabia students with the Balamb Garden Support and, while they awaited Selphie's return and due to a series of segments in a conversation with Rinoa, Irvine begins to tell everyone about his past together at the orphanage, something everyone had already forgotten (except for Irvine, of course), due in part to the side effects of using GFs. Remembering everything about their childhood, the team recognizes the Enchantress Edea as their loving housekeeper. The team decides to defeat Edea, despite her past, and the Garden embarks in the direction of the old orphanage in search of clues, but they are intercepted by an identical mobile base, the Galbadia Garden. Thus begins the Battle of the Garden. Squall addresses the defenders of Balamb, SeeD, and cadets with a heartfelt speech, encouraging them to fight. The Battle begins; Squall and his team manage to infiltrate the Galbadia Garden, to defeat Seifer once again and challenge Edea to a final battle, from which they succeed but when the Sorceress Edea falls, Rinoa falls into a coma.

Intensely concerned about Rinoa's condition, Squall decides to search for Ellone as he thinks she might be able to help Rinoa. Furthermore, Edea revealed to them that until now the sorceress they had been fighting against was not her, in fact, it was an evil Sorceress from the future named Ultimecia, who had been controlling her from within. Coming from the future, Ultimecia had no way of achieving her goals without a body to exist within her. Therefore, he used Edea's body as a refuge for his mind and spirit. In addition, Edea explains that Ultimecia's intentions in making this long journey are to achieve Time Compression, whereby all times merge into a single moment.

Finally free from Ultimecia's possession, Edea accompanies the team. Knowing that the White SeeD were in Esthar with Ellone, Squall opts to go alone, carrying Rinoa on his back, but his friends follow him and together they entered Esthar and from there to the Esthar space station. It was then that they discovered that Ultimecia had taken possession of Rinoa and used her body to free the Sorceress Adel from her grave in outer space. After Adel's release, Ultimecia left Rinoa's body to enter Adel's. The station was evacuated when the Lunar Cry began, but Squall decided to go after the newly awakened and free Rinoa, as Ultimecia had left her to die in space.

They manage to reach an abandoned spaceship called Ragnarok, which the couple uses to return to the planet. Here Rinoa and Squall share an intimate moment, where Squall reveals many things about himself to Rinoa, and she tells him that she felt better when she was with him. Already at the base of the earth they are informed that Rinoa must be sent to Esthar immediately because she is a sorceress. Squall allows her to be taken to Esthar, but after being forced inside by his friends, he heads to the Sorceress memorial where Rinoa will be sealed. He frees her and together with his team they head back to Edea's orphanage, where Squall decides to secretly make his vows to become Rinoa's knight, and they both promise to meet there in case they separate. They then return to Esthar at the request of Laguna, who has developed a plan with Dr. Odine to stop Ultimecia once and for all.

They use Ragnarok to invade the Lunatic Pandora. After Fujin and Raijin unsuccessfully try to convince Seifer to stop serving Ultimecia, Squall and his friends are forced to fight Seifer and Ultimecia (inside Adel) again, defeating the body of the Sorceress Adel. . With no other organ to exist within her, Ultimecia possesses Rinoa once again, giving Ellone the opportunity to send Ultimecia's mind to all periods of time. With her mind in all ages of time, Ultimecia conjured the Time Compression, allowing Squall and his friends to enter the future. Upon entering Ultimecia Castle, Squall and his friends discovered that Ultimecia had placed a signet spell on their castle, forcing the team to fight their minions to regain their powers. After defeating Ultimecia's most powerful minions and passing through the enigmas and traps of her castle, the group was finally able to confront Ultimecia.

After an epic final battle that spanned time and space, Ultimecia finally met her death at the hands of Squall, the legendary SeeD, and his friends. After the conclusion of the final battle, Squall and Ultimecia are taken through time to the Edea Orphanage. It is there that not only Squall is a witness but also his own self as a child, but also implants in Edea the ideas of the SeeD and the Garden. After witnessing the moment when Ultimecia passes her Sorceress powers to Edea, she fell back into the Time Compression where she almost died, luckily Rinoa and her team believe in her existence and manage to bring her back to her time. During the Balamb Garden party to celebrate SEED's victory over Ultimecia, Squall smiles at Rinoa for the first time and they kiss on the balcony in the moonlight.

Usually introverted to the point of appearing rude to others, he is forced to take on a leadership role, much like his take on the leadership of Final Fantasy characters in Kingdom Hearts after the destruction of Radiant Orchard. His scar continues to appear on his face just as it did in Final Fantasy VIII.

    Curiosities

    • Although he was initially set to appear in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep alongside Yuffie, Aerith, Cloud, Tifa, and Cid; they pulled out of the game because according to Nomura, there would already be too many story lines, and they would have lent itself to confusion.
