Maleficent (Maleficent in English) is the main antagonist in Kingdom Hearts and not antagonist but evil in Kingdom Hearts II. It also appears in the games Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Kingdom Hearts coded, Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, and Kingdom Hearts χ.

First entry

Sorceress with formidable powers. Control the Heartless to destroy all worlds. Nobody knows his true intentions.

Second entry

Sorceress with formidable powers. Lead the villains who want to control the Heartless. She has also tricked Riku into joining her, and uses him to carry out her evil plans.

Third entry

Sorceress with formidable powers. She tried to use the Heartless for their evil ends but in reality they were using her. She transformed into a dragon when Sora and the others cornered her.

Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories

Witch who rules the dark. Sora already faced Maleficent and her Heartless once. He stole Bella's heart even when she already knew his plans.

Reverse/Rebirth

Witch who rules the dark. Maleficent's charms persuaded Riku, and she plunged him into darkness. In the Castle of Oblivion she is with Riku again but this time as an indelible stain of darkness in his heart.

Relationships

She is a powerful witch. In the last adventure, he subdued the Heartless and led a group to gain the power of darkness. As part of his plan, he tricked Riku into entering the Realm of Darkness. In the end, she herself succumbed to the power of darkness and was defeated by Sora and his friends. But he managed to return using his wicked power.

Eternal River

This powerful witch is after the strange events of Disney Castle. Maleficent wants to dominate Disney Castle at all costs. To carry out his macabre plan, he will use the power of darkness.

Halloween town

This witch of terrifying powers is controlling the Heartless as part of her plan to dominate all worlds. Lock, Shock, and Barrel are just what you need to nag Sora and his friends while they're in Halloween Town.

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep

Land

This evil witch has the power to control darkness. Furious at not having been invited to Aurora's baptism, she appeared at it and cast a horrible curse on the baby: on the day she turned 16, she would prick herself with the spindle of a spinning wheel and die. Master Xehanort makes the mistake of revealing to him the existence of the other worlds and that by gathering the seven hearts of pure light it is possible to dominate all the worlds.

Ventus and Aqua

This evil witch has the power to control darkness. Furious at not having been invited to Aurora's baptism, she appeared at it and cast a horrible curse on the baby: on the day she turned 16, she would prick herself with the spindle of a spinning wheel and die. Thanks to his vile tricks, he uses what he knows about Terra to sow doubt in the hearts of Ventus and Aqua.

History

Kingdom Hearts

Maleficent was the leader of the Council of Villains in the first Kingdom Hearts consisting of Hades, Captain Hook, Oogie Boogie, Ursula and Yafar. Pete will be discovered as a member in Kingdom Hearts II as well as helping him escape from his prison in Kingdom Hearts Bird By Sleep. She used Radiant Garden as headquarters renaming it Hollow Bastion. Radiant Garden was the home of Ansem the Wise and Xehanort, who discovered the Heartless. Maleficent used her reports to discover how to control the Heartless and the darkness of hearts. He managed to manipulate

Riku to help him kidnap the 7 princesses of the heart and thus be able to open the lock of darkness that would lead them to Kingdom hearts with which he could control all the worlds and plunge them into darkness. Later Riku gained the power of the Keyblade by showing that his heart was stronger than Sora's, although he regained it by understanding that his friends were his true power. Riku returned to the chapel in search of Maleficent but instead found a hooded ansem who offered him more power to power with which he created a Keyblade that could open the hearts of others. When they were finally going to open the lock, Sora arrived at the chapel where he faced Maleficent, once defeated, he opened a portal that gave access to another part of the castle. Here comes Riku, possessed by Ansem, who offered help to Maleficent by demonstrating his new Keyblade. Maleficent transforms into a gigantic dragon that after a hard battle is completely defeated.

Kingdom Hearts Bird By Sleep

This time we know the beginning of Maleficent, he meets Terra in the enchanted forest where he asks him about the whereabouts of Master Xehanort, she tells him that she does not know anything about him and that he tries to search the castle. When she reaches Aurora's room the witch reappears and explains that she needs her heart but she can only remove it with the power of the keyblade, by refusing she awakens the darkness of Terra to obey her. After getting what he wanted, he told him that he had been talking to Master Xehanort and told him all about the 7 princesses of the heart, the existence of other worlds and the power of kingdom hearts. He proposed an alliance to conquer all the worlds together but Terra rejected it, making it clear that he was fighting on the side of light.

Later in his castle he confronts Ventus who had returned the heart of light to Aurora despite Master Xehanort asking him not to harm her. After the battle he told him that Terra had been the one who helped him to get the heart of light. Aqua arrived before the witch continued to manipulate Ventus and reminded him that Terra would never do that. After staying alone with the girl, she was again interested in the power of the Keyblade which she confesses that she sees it as most fascinating, she proposes to join her but she refuses like Terra so she locks her up in one of his cells next to Prince Felipe. Diablo warns its owner that the prince was going to the castle with the prisoner to break his dream curse, he tried to stop them by sending a forest of thorns on the bridge that led to the castle and appeared in front of them to stop them. Aqua demanded that he tell her what he knew about Master Xehanort and she gave him a demonstration of the extent of the power of darkness by transforming into a Dragon. The 3 fairies Flora, Fauna and Primavera enchanted the sword of Prince Felipe with which he managed to defeat Maleficent.

As a curiosity, after the battle Aqua tells Maleficent that the power of true love has defeated her and she replies that "Something as insignificant as love will not defeat her."

Kingdom Hearts: Chain Of Memories

Maleficent appears as a memento of Riku and as the final boss of Hollow Hold. Maleficent tormented Riku by reminding him that her heart had fallen into darkness in order to confuse him, Riku confronts her in an attempt to redeem herself. When Sora and his friends arrive to eliminate Maleficent, she turns into a Dragon, but is again defeated.

Kingdom Hearts II

Maleficent appears very slightly in this game. Diablo, the raven of Maleficent, takes her cloak to Yen Sid's Tower, in which Flora, Fauna and Primavera accidentally remember her and thanks to this and the dark powers of the witch she manages to return to life. He also appears at Disney Castle to take possession of it. To do this, he sends Pete to the past to destroy the Cornerstone of Light, a stone that repels beings of darkness such as the Heartless, but finally Sora and his friends manage to keep the Stone. She also appears in Halloween Town, in which she revives Oogie Boogie to destroy Sora while she turned Santa Claus into a heartless, in the end Oogie Boogie betrays her and she curses him saying that she will regret having refused his help. He appears once more in Hollow Bastion, where he saves Sora and company from the attack of the incorporeal controlled by Saïx, manages to survive this attack and continued his journey in search of a castle where to settle his new Council of Villains. After searches and searches, Maleficent and Pete find the castle of The Non-existent World and try to take over it, but the Organization corner them along with Sora, Donald, Goofy, Kairi, Riku and Mickey, whom they save again by sacrificing themselves to put at bay the heartless.

It is worth mentioning that in this installment Maleficent gives in to her role as an antagonist, saving Sora on more than one occasion, always arguing that it was in pursuit of her own interests. Even so, in the next games, we can see how the empress of evil returns to her role as a villain again, allegedly allying with Master Xehanort and looking for a mysterious black box.

It should be noted that Sora tries to help Maleficent, but Mickey tells him that they have made the decision that his heart told them, Pete tries to abandon her, but when he meets Mickey, he makes the decision to fight by his side. It is presumed that she somehow manages to subdue them, as she reappears unscathed in Kingdom Hearts Re: coded.

Kingdom Hearts Re:coded

Maleficent in this game is once again the antagonist trying to conquer the Binarama. Maleficent sends Pete to investigate Disney Castle. This comes just at the time when Mickey, Donald Goofy and Jiminy Cricket were trying to fix Pepito's diary using a machine and inadvertently they and Pete enter the Binarama. They without noticing Pete's presence he closes the door. Not knowing where he is, he invoked Maleficent who soon appeared and investigated how to benefit from said data. Destroy the connection to the real world, trapping Mickey, Donald, Goofy and Jiminy Cricket. She later appears when Data Sora was chasing Pete in Agrabah and she takes advantage of the confusion to destroy his Keyblade saying that he was just a cheap copy. He summons the Heartless in order to plunge that world into darkness, but King Mickey and Data Riku save him. Maleficent takes advantage of and kidnaps Data Riku to control him at her mercy, filling him with errors to get it. Eventually they face a corrupted dark side and Data Sora confronts him to serve them.

Kingdom Hearts 3D Dream Drop Distance

Maleficent appears at Disney Castle where she kidnaps Queen Minnie. Mickey asks her why she is doing that right now and she tells him that she needs the binarama data to be able to take over all the worlds, seeing Mickey's helplessness attacks him to defeat him. A chackra appears to deflect the attack and Lea comes out of the same portal. Maleficent tells them that her mission was to keep him from helping Sora and that she had recently been talking to Master Xehanort about the seven pure lights of the realm of light and the 13 hearts of pure darkness.

Curiosities

In Kingdom Hearts II, the game's producers did a poll to see if Maleficent should return. The numbers from that poll reached 95% positive votes, which eventually brought her back.
