I thought that Fortnite Battle Royale it wasn't made for me. The first time I played Epic Games "free to play" was a year ago, when the free-for-all game mode was not implemented, and the truth is that it seemed like a nice game to me; It required playing cooperatively online, and the development alternated rounds of survival in open environments - against zombies - with phases of building our own base. By far these building sections were what most captivated a fan of the john carpenter movies, in which the protagonists barricade themselves in a small space and must withstand an external attack, such as Assault on the 13th district police station o Ghosts of Mars.
And then it came Fortnite Battle Royale and it destroyed everything, as before we had only seen with Minecraft. Parents who used to ask me if their children could play Call of Duty now wrote to me to see if they should "meter pasta" and Fortnite, and the games of "celebrities" were transformed after the legendary streaming that led the Rubius and in which we were able to see 100 youtuber beating the copper on the island. Not to mention the phenomenon Lolito Fernandez, become a Twitch star thanks to his broadcasts.

And that's how I got back to Fortnite. With all the volume of news and guides being produced, it was imperative to know the "ins and outs" of the Battle Royale mode: the battle pass, useful weapons and strategies. Taking advantage of the fact that I was already available on Nintendo Switch, I have given it a new opportunity, and I admit that I enjoy it in a very particular way. The reasons for the success of Fortnite surely depend more on its animated style, the fact that it is a free game and that it was available on all platforms.
For me, its biggest attraction is that it can be played in a "realistic" way. How would you try to survive in a "battle royale" like in the película de Kinji Fukasaku? Indoors maybe a round shotgun would give them an advantage, but I was luckier. With both of them liquidated, time to get ammunition, bandages, a ranged weapon (and shield) and get out of there whistling.
In a combat situation, the forest is an ally: you just have to know how to move. Observe the area first, and move forward crouching, stopping in the safe areas to observe the movement around us. If you have ever played airsoft, surely you know that movement gives away a target even if it is camouflaged. There are other tips, such as staying on the shady side of the trees, avoiding straight-line trajectories and, if possible, securing a flank with a cliff or rock face, where we know that we will not receive an attack.

My next match-ups occurred with about 15 survivors remaining, and I was surprised that most players gave away their position by jumping, building ramps rather than around obstacles, or running across open terrain. But of course, it's a game, and everyone has their own strategy. Personally, I didn't build anything. Nor was I overwhelmed by the advance of the storm; in "real" life you have to move constantly, but without rushing. And in the game that's enough to stay in the safe zone.

The first to detect the enemy has a huge advantage, because he decides the distance at which the confrontation will take place, and also gets the first hits without his target being able to react (and without counting on the precision rifle, which makes things easier ). Another tip that I found quite useful is "rough river, fishermen's gain" or what is the same, observe a confrontation and attack the winner while he is collecting the loot or selling himself. And so I reached the "final four", in which the way of playing became much more conservative.

Inevitably, with a reduced playing area, the pulsations quickened and the movements became much more careful, I was with my back against an embankment, listening to the confrontation between two shooters who had built their own towers. And then, without my realizing it, I saw the fourth contender pass me, armed with a rocket launcher. I guess he was already aiming at one of the towers, because he ignored me. I let him fire, and took advantage of his "fogging" to take him down with the submachine gun (he had exchanged the first for a Thompson machine gun with the drum magazine). There were only two of us left, but I had already given away my position.
The truth is that I expected the final confrontation to be something more epic, but my rival still had a long-range rifle, and when he came down to the place of the confrontation, he played it with a single shot. He failed and had no time to change weapons. I got the challenge of the free battle pass, a good handful of experience points and a new celebration ... but above all, I got the pleasant feeling that you can win in Fortnite with a more "serious" strategy. Sure, it doesn't always work; I have also fallen at the feet of "bouncy" players armed with cartridge shotguns and trap builders, who have put a spring in my path just in time.
Maybe the key to Fortnite's success be its versatility. You can play (and you can win) however you want.
