    Neighbors

Each filtering bag neighbors They are main NPCs of the Animal Crossing series. They live a peaceful life scattered around the village of the players. They do the same things as the Player, such as fishing, finding fossils, and collecting critters. The Neighbors, as the series title suggests, come in a variety of animal species, and there are currently around 460 of them.

Neighbors randomly move into the Town at any time, usually after another neighbor moves out. Each neighbor initially comes with a default house layout, which will gradually change over time depending on the furniture, Bugs, Fish, Fossils, and Clothes that the neighbors obtain. Floors and wallpaper will eventually change, usually depending on how long the neighbor has lived in the Pueblo. Unlike the Player, they do not have the ability to expand their House.

    Summary

    Appearance

As mentioned above, the neighbors are anthropomorphic animals, standing on two feet with the same posture and poise as the playable human characters. They also wear clothes and makeup, giving them a human look. They are capable of representing different perceived human emotions, from crying to rejoicing, which are considered impossible in most animal species.

    Interaction

Neighbors can interact in a variety of ways. The player can talk to the neighbors by approaching them and pressing the interact button. These conversations generally result in a relative line of dialogue, or the player receives a request to complete. Requests will unusually trigger a small game or event. Interacting positively with neighbors will develop your friendship with them.

Neighbors will occasionally try to get the player's attention (signaled by a surprised emotion and then approach the player with enthusiasm). Interacting with them in this state will produce dialogue and special requests or a notification of their imminent departure from the Town, giving the player the opportunity to prevent (or encourage) their move.

In addition, neighbors can be disturbed in several ways:

    • "Push": walk continuously towards the neighbors. If done long enough, the neighbor will get mad at the player.
    • In City Folk, New Leaf, and New Horizons, a neighbor will automatically become sad or angry after falling into a trap, whether or not the player speaks to them while they are in the trap.
    • Repeatedly talking to neighbors to the point where the neighbor becomes upset. They can give warnings and then refuse to speak for a while, or in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, say that they are "thinking" and cannot speak right now.
    • Hitting them repeatedly with certain tools, such as the Net, the Toy Hammer, or (in Animal Crossing), the Ax.
    • In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, using the Megaphone too close to a neighbor will be shocked and annoyed.
    • In some games, rejecting your requests can annoy your neighbors. In City Folk, for example, turning down a petitioner (such as a delivery, Hideout, or catchphrase change) will always make the neighbor sad.

There are different personalities and characteristics found in neighbors. All neighbors share the same interests and hobbies, but some are more evident in individual personalities than others. There are various personalities: Athletic, Snobbish, Grumpy, and Lazy, which are male personalities, and Cheerful, Sweet, Snooty, and Average which are female personalities. Different personalities share similar traits, especially male and female equivalents. There are many common characteristics of neighbors.

For example, grumpy and snooty neighbors can be quite mature, arrogant, and somewhat hostile towards others and the player, and will soon become attached, but will still appear arrogant. Sweet and snobbish neighbors will appear concerned about the player and other neighbors, almost like parental figures. Normal, lazy neighbors seem to be very calm to most, but they are also very kind and caring and generally get along well with the player and other neighbors for the most part. Cheerful and athletic neighbors are also typically friendly, but will display a competitive side and somewhat childish traits.

    Initial neighbors

The initial neighbors are the first neighbors that the player has in his Town when a new game begins. The number of initial neighbors varies in each game. In Animal Crossing: Population: on the rise! there are 6, in Wild World there are 3, in City Folk the number was reverted to 6, in New Leaf the number of initial neighbors is 5 and in New Horizons it is reduced to 2.

Animal Crossing: Population: on the rise!

Initially in Animal Crossing, there are 6 neighbors in the Town when the Player moves out. The maximum number is 15. After 15 neighbors have moved in, one of the existing neighbors will try to move out to allow a new neighbor to move in. Neighbors have a unique role in Animal Crossing that is not so apparent in Wild World. During the Town events, they meet and celebrate in different areas of the Town to participate in different events. The most prominent is during the New Year's Eve celebration, where they gather around the village pond.

During the summer and winter, a random neighbor can appear in the Village and live inside a tent or igloo during the day, where they will offer games with the player and give the opportunity to obtain unique items. In future games, they are not a source of rare and unique furniture, but instead become a means of obtaining furniture through requests. They also do not camp, and only live in their homes.

    Animal Crossing: Wild World

Initially in Wild World, there are 3 neighbors in the Town when the player moves out, out of 8 possible. Once 8 neighbors have moved in, one of the existing neighbors can move in, to allow another new neighbor to move in, lowering the number to 7 until the new neighbor moves out. Although the neighbors have a similar role to Animal Crossing, they do have some new features.

When the playable character befriends them, they will likely give the player a photograph of themselves, as proof of their friendship. Each photo has a unique motto from each neighbor, which can be read when the photo is placed in the player's home and interacted with.

There are no campsites or igloos in Wild World.

They are also competitive in Wild World, an exclusive feature of the game. During some conversations, they may ask the player if they want to see who can catch the biggest fish or find the weirdest bug. These are games that are similar to Bug Hunting and Fishing Tournament. During these events, when two neighbors meet, they will not speak.

Another new feature was rumors that some neighbors were dating. This could be discovered by talking to some of the Town's neighbors, who would either be whispering about the two neighbors or one of the two neighbors in the relationship. Usually, it's the snooty neighbors who gossip. However, they give evidence that the two neighbors are dating, apart from the conversation.

Unlike the first game, the neighbors walk at a much slower pace than the player, who continues in City Folk.

Animal Crossing: City Folk/Let's Go To The City

Initially in City Folk, there are 6 neighbors in the Town when the player moves out. The maximum number is 10. Once 10 neighbors have moved in, one of the existing neighbors will try to move out to allow a new one to move in.

Neighbors have a slightly different role than in Wild World. They no longer compete against the player, as this feature is the prominent feature within Bug Hunting and Fishing Tournament events. However, they do have a new feature which is to play hide and seek, where a group of up to 3 neighbors hide around the town; Behind trees, signs, and buildings (but never inside them). They no longer give photos of themselves when they befriend the player.

Neighbors now talk about the glamor and style found within the City, a new area found in the game. It is the only place in the game where neighbors who are not residents of the player's Town can be found.

    Animal Crossing: New Leaf

In New Leaf, there are 5 neighbors in the Town when the player moves out. The maximum number is 10. Neighbors have more actions than in previous games, for example shaking trees, planting flowers, going in and out of shops, and fishing during fishing tournaments. Players can sometimes find a neighbor's lost property on the ground and return it to its rightful owner. Neighbors will once again give players Photographs of themselves, albeit in unusual circumstances. In addition, the neighbors have broader opinions about the reputation of the Player.

Neighbors who are not residents of the player's Town can appear at the Campground where they can interact and dialogue to convince them to move. They can also appear in the cafeteria instead of the resident neighbors. Neighbors who move out of Town eventually show up regularly in the RV Zone.

For the first time in the series, two new personalities are introduced, one new for each genre.

    • For male neighbors, the new personality is snobbish.
    • For female neighbors, the new personality is sweet.

    Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has 391 available neighbors, which includes all the neighbors from Series 1-4 of the Animal Crossing amiibo cards (333 characters), all 50 neighbors from the Welcome amiibo card series, and finally 8 new neighbors. .

When the Player reaches the desert island they are greeted by only two neighbors, the fewest of any game in the series. These neighbors will always have an athletic and sweet personality, these being 81 possible neighbors. Three additional neighbors will be able to move to the island after meeting certain criteria, one at a time, and then up to five more, only a maximum of ten neighbors can move, either through camping, which can be built once the Neighborhood Management Office is reformed into a building, through Tours, or by inviting them from another player's island.

Neighbors have even more interactivity and actions than in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. They can sometimes be seen in their homes, working on a DIY project that they will share with the player when speaking to them, even if the player already has that particular recipe. They can be seen catching insects and fishing. Neighbors have a variety of actions shared by everyone, such as running, exercising, or reading books, and they can sit on the ground. Each neighbor's personality also has specific actions unique to them, which pertain to their personality; for example, athletic neighbors can sometimes be seen lifting weights and normal neighbors examining objects with a magnifying glass.

As a new feature of this game, after bothering a neighbor the player can apologize to him, if he talks to him enough times while angry or sad, which makes the neighbor easily forgive him.
