Papillus is a chameleon that appears in both City Folk and New Leaf. Can be found in the Bug Hunt event. Interestingly, Papilo was the first and only chameleon in the Animal Crossing series until Kamilo's arrival in New Horizons. He also appears to have an English accent from the way he speaks.
Unlike Martín, who organizes the Fishing Tournament, Papilo resists the temptation to eat the insects that the player enters in the Bug Hunt, despite the fact that chameleons depend heavily on a diet of insects, contrary to Martín, who should have a plant-based diet. Martin will "evaluate" the player's fish as he eats it. However, Papilo's comments about the insects clearly indicate that he plans to eat them later, although he does his best to hide this. Likewise, once delivered, the bugs are gone forever.

Etymology
- His English name, Nat, could come from the initials of Nigel Archibald Thornberry from the cartoon The Thornberrys. Nat also says "crushing", as does Nigel Thornberry, and also wears the same clothes as this one. Also, Nat's name is a homophone for "mosquito", the mosquito is a type of insect.
- Its Spanish name, Papilo, derives from "Papilionidae" a family of glossed Lepidoptera of the clade Ditrysia.
Appearances
She has green skin and wears a purple-blue custom net. He wears black glasses. His eyes are very large and with a black pupil (very large) and he tends to do the typical chameleon of looking with one eye to one side and the other eye to the opposite side. He wears an exploration suit and hat with many pockets and a bag-box where he keeps the bugs he catches. Its tongue is orange and short (something that is not normal for a chameleon) or at least it holds it well bent inside its mouth.
On the Bug Hunt
Papilo extends his green and white store outside the Town Hall (CF) or in the Plaza (NL) at 9:00 a.m. to 18:00 p.m. During this time, he expects players and neighbors to bring him different types of insects, apparently rating them based on rarity, brightness, color, and size, then marking them with an unknown point system. In reality, bug bugs are only sorted by size, which is why Silk Moth is the best bug to give to Papilus as it is the largest bug in games.
For each insect that is given a high rating, the player will receive an item. Any bugs given to you will not be returned, whether you win or not. Pick the winner at 18:00 PM, giving a total of 9 hours to find a rare and wacky bug. A ceremony can be held if the player visits Papilo after the tournament has ended and they have qualified in the tournament.
If the player catches the best insect, he will win a trophy that Papilo will send him by mail in the next few days, as well as a message on the Notice Board. The trophy is of a golden color and contributes to extra points in Feng-Shui when placed in the correct part of the player's house. At New Leaf, however, if the player qualifies for the tournament, the trophy will be given to the ceremony.
Curiosities
- Papilo has a photo in his tent with a Bird Wings butterfly.
- After catching some insects, he says; "Hunt insects in the fields! Look for insects in the hills! Look for insects in the streets! You must never give up!" This is based on a famous speech by Sir Winston Churchill.
- No matter how many points an insect has, Papilo always calls insects "delicacies."
