After reading my guide on how to create a Facebook page, you have decided to open one to associate it with your website. Now, you would like to customize it by inserting a cover image that shows the URL of the blog, its name and its motto . To the latter, however, you would like to give a curved effect and you don't know how to do it. Did I guess? Then know that there is no problem: if you want, I'm here to explain how to do it.
If you give me a few minutes of your free time, I can tell you how to do this using the programs for bending writings to install on your computer. In fact, you must know that there are various types and for all needs: some allow you to create curved writings to be applied on photos and images, with the possibility of setting every detail of the curvature; others allow you to create curved and wavy lettering to personalize your text documents. How do you say? Is this exactly the kind of solution you were looking for? So don't waste any more time and get deeper into the topic now!

GIMP (Windows/macOS/Linux)
Among the first programs for curving lettering there is to be taken into consideration GIMP, an open source graphics software available for Windows, macOS and Linux.
To download GIMP on your computer, connected to its official website, press the button Download [version] and, in the new open page, click on the item Microsoft Windows to download GIMP on Windows PC or on option OS X to download it on Mac.
Once the download is complete, proceed with the installation: if you have a PC Windows, double-click the file gimp- [version] -setup.exe, pigia sul pulsating Run and click sul pulsating OK to confirm the use of the language El country, then presses the button Install, wait a few moments and click on the button end to complete the installation.
If, on the other hand, you have a Mac, april il dmg package downloaded, drag GIMP in the folder Applications macOS and open the latter, then right-click on the program icon and select the item apri from the menu that appears to start it, avoiding macOS restrictions for applications from non-certified developers (this is necessary only at first start).
Now you can create and curve lettering with GIMP. After starting the program, click on the entry Fillet present in the top menu and select the option New from the menu that appears, then specify the size of the project to be created in the fields Width e Height e pulsing sul pulsating OK. If, on the other hand, you want to add curved lettering to an already existing image, select the items Fillet e apri, select the image of your interest and click on the button apri to open it with GIMP.
Pigia, quindi, sul pulsating Text tool (the letter "A") Present in the GIMP toolbar, click on the exact point of the image or workspace where you want to insert the text and type the text. By default, a new layer will be visible in the right sidebar named after the text you just entered.
Now, click on the button Path tool (the icon of a fountain pen) present in the toolbar on the left and create a curved path to which, subsequently, your writing will be applied. To create a curved path, after selecting the Path tool, make a first click in the exact point in which to start the curvature and a second click in the point in which to end it, then click in the center of the line that has been created and drag it upwards or downwards depending on the orientation you want give to the curvature.
Once the curved path has been created, right click on the layer created just now (visible at the bottom right and named after the writing) and select the option Text along the path from the menu that appears to create the curved version of the previously entered text. At this point, right click on the writing layer and select the item Delete layer, then click on the option Select in the top menu and select the item From the track give the menu to compare.
Then click on the options Subscription e New level and, in the new open window, presses the button OK to create a new layer. Click the Brush tool (the icon of a brush) in the toolbar on the left, choose the color and move the mouse pointer over the writing to color it. Finally, click on the entry Select in the top menu, click on the option Nothing from the menu that appears and that's it. To learn more, you can read my guide on how to curve a writing with GIMP.
Adobe Photoshop (Windows/macOS)
Among the programs to be taken into consideration for bending a written there is also Adobe Photoshop. The famous Adobe photo editing software has, in fact, numerous features and allows both to add a curved writing to an existing photo and to create writings starting from an empty project. Photoshop is included in the suite Creative Cloud, available as a subscription service starting at € 12,19 / month. However, you can test its features for 30 days by downloading the free trial version.
To download the trial version of Photoshop on your computer, connect to the Adobe website and click on the button Free trial version. Completed the download, to install Photoshop on your PC Windows, double-click the file Photoshop_Set-Up.exe and presses the button Run. If, on the other hand, you use a Mac, april il dmg package downloaded, double-click the file Photoshop Installer and enter the Password of your user account on macOS to start the installation.
Now, on both Windows and macOS, click the button Log in to log into your Adobe account. If you don't have one yet, press the button Sign Up, fill out the registration form with your details and click on the button Registration.
After logging into your account, indicate the level of competence in Photoshop, specify your role (Student, Video industry professional, professional photographer etc.), indicate for whom you are downloading the software and press the buttons Continue e Start installing. To curve lettering with Photoshop, click on the item Fillet present in the top menu and select the option New from the menu that appears to create a new empty project, otherwise click on the item apri and select the image of your interest if you want to insert a curved writing on an existing photo.
Now, press the button Text tool (the icon of a "T“) Present in the sidebar on the left, click on the point of the image or the work area where you want to insert the message and type the text. If you wish, customize the colore, character and greatness of the writing using the tools in the box Property located on the right, then click the button Move tool (the icon of four arrows) to place the writing in the place you prefer.
To apply the warp effect, make sure that in the box Layers at the bottom right the level relative to the writing is selected and click on the button Create altered text (the icon of a "T" and a line) present at the top. In the new window that opens, click on the entry Nobody present next to the option Style and select the effect you want from bow, Lower perspective arch, Arch top perspective, arcata, Bandiera etc. Finally, customize the curvature by moving the sliders under the items Piega, Horizontal distortion e Vertical distortion and click sul pulsating OK to apply the changes.
To export the edited image or created lettering, click on the item Fillet present at the top, select the items Export ed Export as and, in the new open window, presses the button Export everything. Microsoft Word (Windows / macOS)
Microsoft Word it is the ideal solution for those who need to create text documents and insert curved writings in them. The famous software for creating and editing text files is available in the Microsoft Office suite and can be purchased online by subscribing to Office 365 Home at a cost of 7 euros / month or 10 euros / month, depending on the chosen plan. However, you can download a trial version to test its functionality for 30 days.
To download the trial version of Word, connect to the Office website and click the buttons try free e Try it free for 1 month, then enter the login credentials to your Microsoft account and press the button Log in. If you don't have one yet, you can read my guide on how to create a Microsoft account.
In the newly opened page, click on the button NEXT, choose a valid payment method and enter the data, then enter your billing information and activate the free trial by pressing the buttons NEXT, Save e Subscribe. Then click on the button Install to start the Office download and wait for it to download.
To install Office on your PC Windows, double-click on the file you just downloaded to start the automatic installation and wait for it to complete; if you use a Macinstead, double-click the file Microsoft_Office_ [version] _Installer.pkg, presses the button Continue (twice in a row), Accept e Install and inserted the Password of your user account on macOS.
You are now ready to curl a writing in Word. Then start the program, select the item Blank document and click sul pulsating Crea. Now, select the item Inserisci present in the top menu and click on the item Text located at the top right, then presses the button WordArt from the menu that appears and choose the writing style you prefer to add it to the document.
Then choose the writing Insert text and type the words that make up your writing. To apply the curvature effect, click on the entry Stili WordArt present at the top, presses the button Text effects e scegli l'opzione Transform from the menu that appears, then locate the section Curves and click on the effect you like best. You should know that by activating the free trial of Office 365 Home you have also activated automatic renewal. If you do not want to run into unwanted costs, connect to the Office website and log in to your account, then presses on your photo at the top right, select the items My Account e Manage and click on the option Office 365 Home. On the newly opened page, click on the entry Manage, select the option Modification related to the item Recurring billing and click on the options Turn off recurring billing e Confirm cancellation to turn off automatic renewal of Office 365 Home.
PicFont (Online)
To bend an inscription without installing any program on your PC, you can use PicFont: it is a free online service that does not require registration and allows you to create writings both on images to be uploaded from your computer and on empty workspaces.
If you think PicFont is the solution that best suits your needs, connect to its official website and click on the button Upload a picture to upload an image from your computer and then add a text. Alternatively, you can create an empty image by pressing the button Create a picture, by first setting its dimensions using the sliders under the options Width e Height.
Now, customize the text to be curved in the box on the left where the writing appears your text here, set the size by moving the slider next to the item Size and choose the colore and font of your writing. To curl the text, place the check mark next to the item Yes related to the option Text curve, then click on the entry Normal and choose the curvature to apply by selecting one of the options between Normal, Medium, Strong, Reverse normal, Reverse medium e Reverse strong.
Once you have finished editing the image, you can save it on your computer: pause, then, with the mouse pointer on the item Save present in the top menu and select one of the options among JPG, PNG e PDF to choose the image format and start the download.
App to curl lettering
Among the solutions for bending writings that you can consider there are also applications to download and install on your smartphone and tablet and which allow you to add text to your photos. Here are some of the app to curl lettering that might be right for you.
- Phonto (Android / iOS): is an application that allows you to write on photos by choosing from hundreds of fonts. Among its functions, it allows you to bend and rotate the writing, set the color and much more. It is free with the possibility of in-app purchases to increase its functionality and remove advertising banners.
- Curve Text – Swipe to Type (Android): as its name suggests, this application allows you to insert text on photos and obtain the curving effect with simple touches on the device screen. It's free.
- Go (iOS): is the sister application of Phonto, created by the same developers and which allows you to add text to videos. Its functionalities are identical to those indicated above for the version of the app dedicated to photos, including the curvature of the writings. Unlike Phonto, however, it is only available for iPhone and iPad.
- Over (iOS): another free application to create curved writings to be applied to photos on your iPhone / iPad or taken on the spot using the device's camera. In addition, you can choose from numerous fonts and effects, with the possibility of inserting stickers as well. In-app purchases are available to increase its functionality.
