    Shopping area

    Map of the commercial area.

La Shopping area is an area introduced in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. It is a commercial district located to the north of each Player's Town, and is accessed by going through the train tracks. Initially, the street is sparsely populated, with several abandoned buildings. As the village is upgraded, and after certain prerequisites are met, additional facilities will become available to the player and the background music may change. The shopping area is similar in concept to the City featured in Animal Crossing: City Folk / Let's Go To The City.

At the beginning of the game, only the Post Office, Tendo and Nendo's Store, Handy Sisters, Nook Real Estate, the lower floor of the Museum and the Photo Booth are available to the Player. All other facilities must be unlocked and built. The locations of all buildings are fixed, excluding the Museum, which will be located at the west or east end of the commercial area.

In Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, a shopping area is featured as the main setting for the game. The player can design several different facilities for the Village, such as shops, a school, and a hospital. Neighbors will roam the area and make use of the facilities, while the player can offer to build and design houses for the neighbors.

    Summary

    Appearances

    Animal Crossing: New Leaf

The commercial area always has the same appearance and design in all towns, except for the east and west ends of the street, which will differ depending on the direction of the town's layout. The Museum will be located at the landlocked end of the street, while a bench will be placed near the edge of the oceanfront cliff. Yellow birds will appear on the ground at either end of the street, and they will fly as the player approaches. Before the Florist is built, the site has an upturned garden pot that players can sit on.

Although the area has trees, shaking them will never produce any items, and neither trees nor bushes can be removed by the player. It is not possible to use the Ax, the Shovel or the Megaphone in the commercial zone. The Fishing Rod can be used in the pond next to the museum, and the Net can be used at any time, but there are no fish or critters to catch.

Sometimes you can find neighbors in the commercial area, or inside the Museum, the Jajá Club, the Tendo and Nendo Store and the Handy Sisters. These are usually neighbors who live in the village, but they may also be one of the 16 previous neighbors who used to live in the village. Very rarely, foreign neighbors can also visit the commercial area.

    Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer

In Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, the shopping area is different than the one seen in New Leaf. Initially, the area consists of a small street with a fountain and several abandoned buildings, but as the player progresses, Cinnamon will give him the opportunity to build a variety of new facilities. From the left side of the street to the right, the facilities that can be built are the Hospital, the School, a Cafe and a business. The exterior of each facility can be customized from a selection of different styles, and the facility can be redesigned by the player after construction. The school is the only facility that requires renovation, and it will have a different exterior appearance after the renovation. The player can begin a facility renovation by talking to Candrés after completing the school renovation.

After all these facilities have been built, the commercial zone will expand beyond the southern cliff. This new area contains lots for a restaurant, another business, an office and a large warehouse. Once the second set of facilities has been built, a bridge will appear across the river leading to a site for the Concert Hall. After building the concert hall, the street will expand to the left of the real estate, which contains a lot for the Hotel. A path from the commercial area leading to the village can be found to the northwest of the estate, however it is not possible to venture along it. Neighbors' houses can only be accessed by selecting them from the customer list, at which point the player will drive to their house.

Random neighbors will explore the shopping area, occasionally carrying shopping bags or other items. The player can approach neighbors who seem to have deep thought to reveal their requests for a home, and the player can offer his services to them. Neighbors can also be found within each facility, some working as uniformed personnel and others as customers, students, or patients.

    Curiosities

    • In Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, the red and white real estate car is one of the few vehicles seen in the series, along with Graciela's car, the Captain's taxi, and the city bus.
