The Spanish painting (solemn painting in English) is a painting introduced in Animal Crossing: Wild World, whose real name is “Las meninas”.
Summary
Etymology
The name of this work in the Animal Crossing games is due to its place of origin (Spain).
Description
It is one of the largest works by Velázquez and in which he put a greater effort to create a composition that is both complex and credible, that conveys the sensation of life and reality, and at the same time encloses a dense web of meanings. The painter reached his goal and the painting became the only painting to which the writer Antonio Palomino dedicated an epigraph in his history of Spanish painters (1724). He titled it In which the most illustrious work of Don Diego Velázquez is described, and since then it has not lost its status as a masterpiece. Thanks to Palomino we know that it was painted in 1656 in the Room of the Prince of the Alcázar of Madrid, which is the scene of the action.
