The Whale Shark (whale shark in English) is one of the rarest fish in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the game in which it was introduced. As if that were not enough, it is the largest fish in the game, since specimens of up to 750 cm can be fished, and one of the best valued.

Fishing
The player must go to Tortimer Island, and look for a fish whose fin sticks out of the water. At best it may be some species of shark (including the whale shark), but sometimes it may just be a sunfish.
Since the latter seem to be less common at night, the best time to fish for a whale shark is at night, although you can fish at any time of the day.

New Leaf
"The whale shark is the largest fish in the world, but also one of the most calm and shy. They swim at about 5 km / h, so they are quite slow, and despite their size they are far from being a threat. their mouths trap plankton and the other tiny organisms they feed on. In fact, more than teeth they have about 10 barbs arranged in rows that act as filters. " - Museum panel
New Horizons
The imposing whale shark is the largest fish in the world, with specimens up to 18 meters! Unlike other sharks, this one is not aggressive and feeds on plankton. They grow slowly and lead a relaxed life feeding on microorganisms in warm waters. So if you ever have to choose a fish as a roommate ... I would recommend the whale shark. Except if you're microscopic in size ... - Socrates.

Although it may not seem like it, whale sharks are completely harmless
Rhincodon typus is the largest known fish in the world, measuring approximately 12 m in length. It lives in warm tropical and subtropical waters. It is believed to have inhabited the Earth for sixty million years. Its belly is totally white, while its back is grayish in color, darker than most sharks, with a multitude of white or yellowish spots and horizontal and vertical lines. It is one of the three species of sharks that feed through a water filtration mechanism, along with the basking shark and the broadmouth shark. It feeds mainly on phytoplankton, algae, and krill, but sometimes it also feeds on crustaceans, such as crab larvae, squid, and schools of small fish, such as anchovies, sardines, and mackerel.
