Who is aiming to save the internet?

Hello Animal Crossing Encyclopedia users. Today I am going to deal with a fairly serious subject, but since I am not going to be good at explaining, I am going to copy and paste directly from the original source. No, this is not a joke. If you really care about the internet you are using, I would bother to waste five minutes of your time to change the rest of your future life.

Right now, at a United Nations meeting in Dubai, a group of authoritarian governments wants to take control of the Internet through a binding global treaty. If they succeed, the Internet could end up being less free, more expensive and much slower. We have few days to prevent it.

The Internet has been a great example of citizen power. It has allowed us to connect, raise our voices and pressure leaders around the world like never before, thanks to the fact that it has been managed for the most part by users and non-profit organizations, and not by governments. But now Russia, China, and the United Arab Emirates, among others, are trying to rewrite an old telecommunications treaty called RTI to control the Internet, tailoring the Internet to their interests rather than the needs of users. Tim Berners Lee, considered one of the "Fathers of the Internet", has warned that this change could increase censorship on the Internet and invade our privacy. But if we oppose it through a massive citizen petition, we will reinforce the position of the countries that are fighting against this assault on the Internet.

We have stopped similar attacks in the past and can do so again this week, before a final text is consolidated. A wave of opposition to the new RTI treaty is already growing - sign the petition to tell governments to get their hands off our internet and forward this email to everyone you know. When we reach a million signatures, we will break into the Dubai meeting and deliver our petition directly to the delegates.

"Yes, okay. But there is nothing I can do to prevent it." I'm tired of hearing that phrase, and now you can. As this well explained, Avaaz is collecting signatures against this treaty. If you want to join the goal of getting a million, you just have to go here and fill in the fields of "Name" (you are free to put the one you want), "Email" and "Country". It also asks you for a zip code, but you don't have to enter it. All the signatures count, the weight is made between all.
