Yen Sid is a powerful sorcerer who debuted in the musical short "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" from the Disney movie "Fantasia." He appears in Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep as a retired Keyblade Master, renowned for his wisdom and mastery over the arts of Magic. Although he is no longer an active Keyblade master, he still keeps a close eye on the balance between Light and Dark. He was once King Mickey's teacher, teaching him everything he knows about magic and the Keyblade. His name is a reverse anagram of "Disney", as a tribute to Walt Disney.

"Great sorcerer who dwells in the Tower of Mysteries and mentor to King Mickey. His abilities make him the first to perceive the threat that looms over the worlds, a fact that he quickly communicates to Master Eraqus. He is very worried after the sudden departure from his disciple Mickey. He is also the one who reveals to Aqua that it was Terra and Master Xehanort who attacked Master Eraqus. "

A sorcerer with unmatched powers. He was the one who taught magic to the king. Capable of filling the sky with beautiful butterflies or separating the waters from the sea, Yen Sid's spells are simply amazing. His very name makes many tremble. Yen Sid shared his wisdom with Sora and his friends, and showed them some very valuable techniques to face the dangers of this new adventure. "

Appearance

He is an elderly person with a large gray beard, his face reflects a lot of seriousness and experience since he never saw great changes in his appearance, he wears a large blue tunic as well as a hat of the same color decorated with moons and stars. His suit reflects the sky and closely resembles the Star Scout Keyblade.

Personality

Of few words and very accurate, this is how this great sorcerer can be defined, in his appearances he never spoke more than he should and he always knew how to calmly answer the mysteries that have been posed to him, apparently he knows a lot about the events of Kingdom Hearts as well as a great knowledge in the keyblade and especially in magic, described as one of the most powerful sorcerers.

History

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep

After Mickey's training the night before the graduation exam for Terra and Aqua's Master, Yen Sid reveals that he has a feeling that something terrible is about to happen. The next morning, after the conclusion of the exam in Departure Land, Yen Sid contacts Master Eraqus through the glass of the throne room to reveal the threat of the Nescient.

When Terra visits the Tower of Mysteries, she asks him for clarification about Master Xehanort, Vanitas, and the Neighbors. After Terra left the world, Yen Sid comments to himself that he hoped Xehanort's heart would never lead him astray again. Later, Ventus appears in his tower with the Star Shard, and Master Yen Sid uses his divination magic to locate King Mickey. Afterwards, Aqua takes Mickey back to the tower, and Master Yen Sid tells him that Master Eraqus has been annihilated and that the act was committed by Terra and Master Xehanort. After that, Aqua leaves the Tower of Mysteries to go to the Necropolis of Keyblades, and Mickey leaves again to help her and her friends.

Following Vanitas's defeat, Mickey returns to the Tower of Mysteries with Aqua and Ventus in a coma. Master Yen Sid finds himself unable to feel Ventus' heart, and encourages Aqua to believe that their friendship serves as the key to bringing him home one day. Some time later, Mickey sadly returns the stellar shard and his Keyblade, thinking he has dishonored his master, and prepares to depart. However, Master Yen Sid returns the Keyblade to him, and he happily accepts it.

Kingdom Hearts II

Yen Sid acts as Sora's tutor to inform him of the situation on his new journey. When Sora, Donald, and Goofy arrive at the Tower of Mysteries, they meet Pete, who wanted to turn Yen Sid into a Heartless, but Sora manages to stop the villain's plan. Once the trio are before Yen Sid, he informs them about the enemies they will face in this adventure, the Heartless, the Nobodies and Organization XIII. He also brings before them the Gumi Ship, which had been in his custody, and after explaining a new method of traveling between worlds by opening new routes with his Keyblade, Yen Sid sends them on the route to Hollow Bastion.

Some time later, Diablo brings Maleficent's cloak to the Tower of Mysteries, placing it before Flora, Fauna and Primavera, thus reviving the cruel witch, the fairies run out to communicate it to Master Yen Sid. However, at the moment when Sora and his friends can go back to the tower, Yen Sid and the three fairies are nowhere to be found.

Kingdom Hearts coded

After discovering that Sora has the power to save all the lost hearts associated with him, King Mickey meets with Yen Sid to inform him of the whereabouts of Ventus's heart, leaving only Terra to be found. However, Yen Sid surprises Mickey by revealing that the destruction of Ansem and Xemnas has revived their original, Master Xehanort. Fearing that Xehanort was not alone, Yen Sid orders Mickey to bring Sora and Riku to the Tower of Mysteries to take the graduation exam for Master.

His voice appeared in a large amount of the trailer explaining events of the games as well as describing the worlds fallen in dreams and the new enemies: the Nightmares. It also explains how the Spirits can guide Sora. Apparently, he informed Sora about the Realm of Darkness: "A world from which you cannot awaken and if you do not awaken you will not be able to return to your original world."

Mango

Yen Sid appears in the Kingdom Hearts II manga playing the same role as in the original game with some variation.

When Sora and company appear at the Tower of Mysteries, they come across a scorched Pete who offered Yen Sid to join him. After that, Pete tells him that Maleficent's Heartless will take care of him, but that is when Yen Sid informs him that Maleficent has already been destroyed, and then asks Sora, Donald and Goofy to enter the tower, where they explains the situation of the worlds while offering them a snack.

Once the trio are ready to depart with the Gumi Ship, Yen Sid presents Sora with a handmade Keyblade holster in Mickey's appearance.

Curiosities

Kingdom Hearts II marked the first time Yen Sid spoke in all of Disney history.
He is apparently a master of the Keyblade, although he has never been seen wielding one.
He has also been King Mickey's mentor, being the one who taught him to carry the Keyblade.
It is assumed that his Keyblade was Star Explorer, and he left it to his presumed apprentice (King Mickey), therefore he has never been seen with it.
His name backwards is Dis-Ney.
