The Player can deliver a fish to Martín from 9:00 to 18:00. By handing a fish to Martin, he will give the player a piece of furniture, wallpaper, or floor. Martin will give away ordinary furniture if the player gave him a fish equal to or smaller than the average size of said fish. However, if the player gives him a fish with a size that is above average, he will give the player a random piece of furniture from the Fish Series. The articles in the series fish that you give away are divided into two groups; a group that can only be obtained during the months when Martin will accept any fish, while the other group is for when Martin will only accept a certain type of fish.

Winners are awarded a gold, silver or bronze trophy, depending on their rank. The next day, the tournament winners receive a mention on the bulletin board, congratulating them on their victory. If the player did not attend the ceremony, but won a trophy, they will receive it in the mail the next day.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the Fishing Tournament is organized by CJ instead of Martin, and takes place on the second Saturday of the months of January, April, July and October in both hemispheres. During the tournament, the player is tasked with catching as many fish as possible within three minutes. The player can participate in the challenge as many times as he wishes until the event ends at 18:00. However, each entry after the first one costs 500 berries. While the timer is running, a generic message is displayed each time a fish is caught instead of the player's joke. Fishing rods will not break during the tournament, but they will still accumulate damage, and will break after time runs out if their durability is depleted during the round.

The fish that the player catches will be sent to a refrigerator in the square instead of his pocket. After scoring, the player can sell the contents of the refrigerator to CJ for 50% more than the sale price on MiniNook, and is required to do so before they can participate again or exchange their points for items. To keep any fish caught, the player must select the fish from the refrigerator before selling it. When catching fish the player will receive points based on the number of fish caught, regardless of their rarity, if the player manages to catch more than three fish they will receive a bonus of 2 points.

Multiplayer

By participating in the tournament, while playing in local multiplayer or over the Internet. The player will be able to take advantage of several additional benefits, the entry fee of 500 Berries does not apply to all participants. In addition, there is a cooperative bonus: if 5 or more fish are caught among all players, all players will earn 10 bonus points for each (regardless of the number of fish caught individually). To start the challenge, only one player needs to ask CJ to start the timer and it will start for all players without warning, which means that other players can approach a body of water early. A tournament can also start after everyone has cleaned their coolers (either by selling to CJ or by removing the fish manually). Players can enter or leave the island during the tournament, but the timer will not stop. If the connection is lost, everyone may lose their fishing progress.

Awards

After earning 10 or more points, players can exchange their points for rewards. The 13 possible items are distributed in a random order, after which the player will start receiving duplicate items. Also, if the player scores 100, 200 or 300 points during the day, CJ will send a corresponding trophy (bronze, silver or gold) to their mailbox the next day.

Although the tournament ends at 18:00 PM, CJ will remain in the plaza until 20:00 PM, so the points can still be redeemed for rewards and the fish can be sold until he leaves. After he is gone, the refrigerator remains in the plaza for the rest of the night, in case the player still needs to retrieve their fish from there.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp

At Pocket Camp, the Fishing Tournament takes place at the Calada Salada or Arroyo Cebollo. There are three to four different fish to catch in each tournament, but the types of fish that can be caught and count towards full-size targets change for each. Handing the fish over to Martin will lead him to measure them and reward the player for hitting certain full-size goals.
