Prison guard

Prison guard is an Iconic Heartless boss found in Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, and appears in Halloween Town. Lock, Shock, and Barrel can be swallowed to activate their attacks.

History

After Maleficent resurrects Oogie Boogie, she leaves Lock, Shock, and Barrel behind to confront Sora and Jack Skellington, and summons the Jailer to help them. He swallows Lock, Shock, and Barrel, but Sora, Donald, Goofy, and Jack manage to defeat him and free the children. With their usual disloyalty, they immediately reveal Maleficent's intentions to the heroes.

Design

Jailer is a large, seemingly mechanical Heartless that appears to be made of metal, thus predominantly in shades of gray, black, and silver. Its large egg-shaped head has a serrated, open mouth and has bright triangular spiral eyes. His face is not a uniform color, and it appears to have been broken, as there is a crack between the eyes that appears to have been stitched or stapled again. It has a long, braided antenna that protrudes from the top of its head, which appears to be wrapped in bandages. His Heartless Emblem is at the base of this antenna. His long arms are connected to the bottom of his head, they are mostly covered by metal in the form of "sleeves", and his hands appear to be made of bone. A large, metal cage that holds Lock, Shock and Barrel is suspended by a cable that hangs from the bottom of the jailer. The cage resembles the one Lock, Shock, and Barrel used to travel to Oogie's Mansion in The Nightmare Before Christmas, prior to Kingdom Hearts. There is a large, black knob on either side of the Heartless head that appears to work with a winch at the base of the Jailer.

In Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, the Jailer is brighter in color, having a copper and gold cage, bright yellow hands, and turquoise arms.

The Jailer's name refers to the cage containing Lock, Shock, and Barrel, which is reminiscent of a prison cell.

Strategy

The jailer can imprison victims in their cage and swallow them to use elemental attacks. Use Lock, Shock and Barrel to fight Sora and his group. He can shoot fireballs from his big hands and blue lasers from his fingers. It also uses its claws and teeth as physical attacks. Equip yourself with all your aerial capabilities, and maybe the hero's emblem (unless you want better with magic). Fighting the jailer is all about maintaining pressure, so you should repeatedly attack him with aerial combos. If he leans his head back and tries to swallow one of the children, use Reaction Command to stun him. After a while one of the three is swallowed, and its attacks depend on the child:

• Shock: The Jailer will revolve around his arms, getting up and spinning around the arena, firing laser beams. This is easy to avoid, just get close and attack.
• Lids: He shoots large fireballs from his mouth and hands and will try to keep his distance. These fireballs can be returned with Blockade and this will damage the Heartless and have a chance to land a good combo.
• Barrel: Only Sora will use a powerful biting attack and will try to close the gap. Keep your distance and use Electro.

Near the end of the fight, he swallows all three and use a mixture of attacks: fireballs, biting attacks, and laser beams. Use the Wise form, keep your distance, and continue strafing (keep moving) until you defeat him. Donald's limit is also useful here.
