    When Fortnite killed Manolete

He did not quite understand the headline of the report: "Samuel case: a collective slaughter like those studied in chimpanzees and fed with 'Fortnite'" (they have already changed it, by the way).

So I have read on, becoming more and more intrigued. And when I have reached the paragraphs dedicated to the video game and that, I suppose, have served as a thread for the journalist to write the headline, I have thrown my hands on my head, stupefied.

      When Fortnite killed Manolete

You can no longer read this headline: the allusion to Fortnite has been deleted

The criminologist and judicial expert from A Coruña Luis Alamancos (who is surely an excellent criminal expert) allows himself to say: “Before we had that of the two diamonds, now there are no filters. At any time, the boys have before them hyperviolent series and games to which they are extremely hooked, like Fortnite ”.

And, indeed, we do not have two diamonds (that was put years ago on TV to indicate if it was an adult content), but Before each television program, the recommended age is specified, and video games, for years, have had a PEGI code

A code that makes it very clear for what age it is suitable and what type of content the player can find. And calling Fortnite "hyperviolent", well, what do you want me to tell you ...

I fully understand that a criminologist does not know that PEGI exists and that he does not know what Fortnite is, but he says very little in favor of the journalist who has not informed himself a little before publishing that statement. It's more, I was sure he was delighted to be able to put Fortnite in the title so that the SEO could do its magic. But that's not the worst of the article.

We celebrate 30 years of Hobby Consolas

Hobby Consolas celebrates 30 years with an exciting journey from its origins as the best-selling video game magazine in Spain, to its exciting present as the number one video game website.

Later, Manuel Isorna, doctor in Psychology and professor of the Psychosocio-educational analysis and intervention department at the University of Vigo, after giving a speech worthy of being psychoanalyzed, states: “99% of video games consist of killing, kicking , burst, murder ... And on top of that they get points for it ”.

How many video games has this man played? And, once again, was the journalist out for grapes? Not content with that, he adds: "We have a minister who alerts us about meat, but nothing is ever done against these multinational gaming companies."

Let's see, I do have data. According to the AEVI White Paper, 66% of the games that were sold in our country in 2019 had a PEGI of +3 to +12. Only 33,8% of the games released had PEGIs of +16 and +18. In 2020 (the report is not finished yet), 5,5% more games were released with PEGI +3. Here you have the graph included in the 2019 report.

Moreover, delving into the subject, we discover that about 64% of video games developed in Spain have a PEGI of +3 and +7 and only 4% are only suitable for adults.

Data from DeVuego, the main database of the video game sector in Spain. If this is what he has put his mind to the bottom, what else has he done it?

      When Fortnite killed Manolete

A few lines before he came to say that today's adults are very good people because we grew up with Marco and Heidi. Two dramons that led an entire generation down the street of bitterness and that I would dare to say are underneath many of the traumas that those of my generation suffer.

Marco, Heidi and the “I, a sinner” that was prayed at Mass. I am not as an expert in psychology as Doctor Isorna in video games, but given opinions ...

To me, the article and the analysis that was being done (and that continues to be done later), seemed sensible and with arguments that I was perfectly believing.

The experts bring a scientific and professional point of view that I respect. Because I am not a criminologist, nor a psychologist, nor have I studied human behavior. Nevertheless, your credibility has vanished when reading those paragraphs without any foundation, if any data, without any study behind

Paragraphs in which the only thing he has shown is to have prejudices and to point out the guilty without presenting anything to support his claims (of homophobia, if that, he would speak another day).

Paragraphs that make it clear that he hates screens (not just video games in general) and that dying of colon cancer seems better to him than laying his hands on a video game.

Of the other things that I don't understand, were those experts that expert? Was everything they said about herd behavior, the loss of self-control caused by alcohol, the softness of parents, a lack of limits or a low tolerance for frustration, was it true?

I have been left with the doubt. That it is as if they call me from El País to ask me what I think, as an expert, of women in the video game, and I end up saying some nonsense, such as that football alienates men and turns them into abusers and murderers. That they would not fit it in a headline, that the journalist corrects me or, at least, asks me what I am based on?

Although it is true that the general media treat the video game with more and more care, they understand better what it is and how it works, there are still those who do not miss the opportunity to put them on the target. What about me I thought that we had already overcome this at the beginning of the century ... If when I say that I am a candid soul ...

Poor Fortnite has ended up becoming the bull that killed Manolete, a misfortune that convulsed Spanish society of the time and that represents the epitome of all evils ... For experts, Fortnite causes massacres, shootings, loss of custody and now also hate murders (it has not been proven that it was a homophobic crime, but what does it matter if I say so?).
