Analysis of Fortnite Battle Royale on PS4, Switch, Xbox One and PC

Fortnite Battle Royale It is such a special game that we could not do a typical analysis. We've put different members of the seasonsnite staff to play, and asked them to give us a brief review, based on their experience and personal tastes. Because after all, a phenomenon like this Free Battle Royale it must be analyzed from different perspectives. In this review de Fortnite we have texts of "noobs" and reviews written by veterans of online games, analyzes made by enthusiasts of the genre and others dragged by this fashion ... almost the same as one finds in a game of "all against all".

So the same if you still don't know what is fortnite  as if you can draw a map of Ribera Repipi, Pisos Picados or Socavón Soterrado with your eyes closed, surely you understand the impressions of our editors. This analysis corresponds to the game in the middle of season 5, the changes it experiences in maps, weapons and challenges may cause us to have to re-analyze it in a while.

Analysis of Fortnite in save the world mode

    Fortnite analysis by David Martínez

I fully understand that the people go crazy with Fortnite. It is a free game, with a very intelligent progression system, and that is kept alive thanks to constant updates (we are already in week 4 of season 5, and to all this we must add special events, such as the first anniversary ). Personally, what I like about Fortnite is its "sandbox" element that allows everyone to play in their own way.

As I already explained after win my first game of Fortnite, I like to play in "realistic mode". Walking crouched, on the shadow side of obstacles and on low-profile terrain, avoiding towns except to equip myself at first ... but that's not at odds with other more dynamic styles, like tower builders (which have proven to be a good strategy to survive) or those "crazy" who cross the map jumping and armed with the tactical shotgun (which there are also). The introduction of vehicles or jetpacks only opens the range of combat possibilities. And above it is not necessary pay the battle pass to have a chance of victory!

My first victory in Fortnite Battle Royale

To make matters worse, the control and behavior of the weapons (which have a good spawn rate) are much tighter than the "animated" style visuals suggest. It's not an Epic game for a reason! Weapon reloading and targeting, the extra damage from headshots, and the use of shields combine to allow for exciting firefights, rewarding experience more than you might imagine.

The private jokes, the dances, the shopping cart races ... all that is part of the Fortnite "wrapper" and that has been incorporated into the community language, is a perfect bait for the number of players do not stop growing. So don't be fooled. It is not a simple game that follows the fashion of battle royale. Both the design of Fortnite Battle Royale and its merchandising (the micropayments and the battle pass) are built to perfection. Although I admit that I was an "easy prey" because I am a regular player of Call of Duty, Battlefield, Battlefront, DOOM, Splatoon and any "shooter" that gets ahead.

    Alberto Lloret's Fortnite analysis

In the summer of last year, when released Fortnite (Save the World mode), I found it an interesting proposition, combining construction and third-person action. What I could not imagine then is that, a year later, I would be playing with him ... at least with his variant Free Battle Royale. Although I have been a little late "to the party" (in the third season), it has achieved what no other title has achieved in the last decade: to get me "hooked" back to the beast with an online game.

I spent thousands of hours at Quake III Arena, Unreal Tournament, SOCOM, Modern Warfare ... but after that, I didn't find “anything” that seemed minimally original and fun, and that invited me to come back day after day to play . Fortnite Battle Royale has accomplished just that (despite his similar to PUGB), and it is also being handled by Epic in a very successful way, which other companies should look at, because it plays almost all the key keys, and it does it so well, that is why it has become the global success that it already is: you can play for free (hence the initial success among young audiences), it is multiplatform and except in the case of PS4, you can play with your account on all of them and share your progress.

More important if possible is that every week you have news (challenges, weapons ...), for less than 10 euros you can access all the content of a season (and if you play long enough, earn in-game currency to buy successive season passes without spending "real" money) or that new modes are being added temporarily, modifying the gameplay. No matter where you look at it, it is a game that is very well measured and calculated, from the omission of blood or gratuitous violence to the "look" of the game, or how easy it is to catch it, and how deep it can be to master all its possibilities.

Everything helps to make it a “friendly” experience, and at the same time very dense, offering, like Pixar films, different levels for each type of user to enjoy in their own way. That is why it has the legion of players it has and that is why it has connected with the community in this way ... and that is why it has managed to make me, in my 40s, get excited again with an online shooter. I can understand, although I do not share, the critical voices that see the danger of Fortnite, which has already affected the development of triple-A games such as Call of Duty (which will not have a campaign but will have Battle Royale mode) or Battlefield, but it is what always happens with all fashions: that the rest want to achieve what they have achieved.

So, my advice is that, those who have not tried it yet, dedicate a couple of hours to it, if possible with friends in a squad. If after that first contact you still don't see the grace ... bad luck, but you will be missing what for me is the phenomenon of 2018, which is also being more than deserved at all levels.

Analysis of Fortnite by Alejandro Alcolea

Why are we going to fool ourselves, I love video games, but I also love graphics engines, and when Epic introduced Fortnite in 2011 I didn't care about the game a bit and just wanted to see that Unreal Engine 4 in action. Little by little I was '' entering '' Fortnite thanks to its proposal for cooperative action with zombies and the addition of construction, to the point of being excited about the launch of the game in the summer of last year.

When it came out, I received it with my eyes open, but what always happens happened: it was fun, it combined very well that `` Minecraft spirit '' with the third-person action that Epic knows how to handle very well, but there were a few dozen other games of those to enjoy that, in the end, called me more. I was following the steps of the game with interest, as the pique with PUBG when Fortnite Battle Royale came outBased on the writing of the game, and due to that collective fury that existed, I was encouraged to try it in its third season.

And, boy, I discovered why Epic is Epic: they make very fun games, very well measured and, above all, they have taken the pulse of the industry like few others. Entering Fortnite is as easy as downloading the game client, cheering on some friends… and playing! The entry barrier is zero and starting to play a game for free is always encouraging. Little by little you see that its mechanics are not as naughty as you thought, that you have to put hours into it, that you "bite" when they kill you and that you begin to value that only life that you have as a game, something that does not happen in the rest of online games.

Fortnite on Android will not be on Google Play

And yes, for work, but also with pleasure, I have paid for the Battle Pass of the fifth season. It was time and I felt, in a way, that I owed something to Epic. Those € 10 for ten weeks of content are more than amortized thanks to the updates that Epic introduces weekly, both with content and with new challenges, which keep the player always expectant and glued to the console or PC, wherever they want to play. And, in addition, they are news that are received with open arms. It is worth that a rifle can give more or less the same, but that additional modes are put in which the objective is pure and simple fun without the "you are" of the battle royale ... it is a success.

Visually, in addition, although it seems simple, it has its crumb and is really well measured. There is nothing random, there is no blood, the animations are nice, it is colorful and it '' fits '' very well to all types of public. And, what the hell, the best thing is that it is hilarious and there are practically no waiting times. Uploads are instantaneous on whatever platform and you are always, always, always playing.

I understand that many are ecstatic by the amount of news that there is of Fortnite in all mediaBut when you play the game and get on the battle bus, you find out why this is the case and why, in 2018 at least, the industry is changing. It's fun, you can dig as deep as you want (there are players who should be awarded a degree in architecture) and Epic knows how to take care of the community.

And, well, the good wine for last: except on PS4, players from other platforms can play together (and if you have a Battle Pass on One, for example, you keep it on Switch or PC to continue progressing), which it means that the gang of colleagues does not have to separate play each one on the platform they play on. Let's see how long the phenomenon lasts, but due to repercussions in the industry, I would not be surprised if it was the game of 2018.

Analysis of Fortnite by Alberto Martín

I was late to the Fortnite phenomenon: A year ago I was still completing Raids in Destiny 2 And all I knew about Epic's game - I'm not as up to date as the rest of the Hobby staff - is what I was hearing from a couple of colleagues, who played Fortnite games while they waited for the rest of the group to arrive at the Raid.

By the time I wanted to try it out on PS4, months later, I ran into the main barrier of this game: by not having a ranking system and bringing newbies and experts together in the same game, the first impact is too painful: to die, die and die without give you time to find out what the matter is about. I think I left it to the fifth game and did not play again until practically the beginning of the fifth season, taking advantage of its output on Nintendo Switch and the curiosity to get on the car that everyone was talking about, in addition to thinking that in Switch the games would be easier.

Fortnite season 5 how to complete all weekly challenges

I was not too wrong, I managed to manage 3 wins the first two afternoons of play, although I ended up going back to PS4 because my Switch doesn't seem to like Fornite too much, at least in TV mode. On the laptop everything is going as it should, but in TV mode it overheats more than is physically reasonable and the game backfires so much that playing it becomes impossible.

A few weeks later my opinion has changed a lot, although I still think that its success - or at least that of the Battle Royale - is in exploiting our sadomasochistic side and that it is precisely so engaging because it makes us piss off. And a lot. "Another one. I'm sure a fucking crocodile won't appear the next time out of nowhere and kills me with a shotgun. I'm sure if I practice enough I'll learn to build defensive structures at quantum speeds." And so on to infinity. His ability to piss us off and make us angry is precisely what makes him so addictive: the desired rematch is just one click away.

However, in my case I don't think the addiction lasts too long. I have never had the patience or time to master a game of these characteristics, and the lack of a ranking / ranks / classification system that makes matchmaking join me with other one-armed like me will eventually throw me backwards.

While the attraction lasts, I will continue with my dastardly strategy of trying to survive by hiding until the final circle and waiting for the two or three remaining rivals to be just as bad as me, while running away from anyone who seems to know how to build fast. Thus, a few victories have already fallen.

Oh by the way. Playing with a keyboard on PS4 should be punishable by law. Some of you can be heard typing from my living room, damn you.
