Barold is a dark grey-colored bear. The insides of his ears are tangerine-colored, he has large lips, and he appears to have large amounts of stubble on his face. There are white markings on his feet, his paws and the tip of his tail. He wears large square shaped glasses, and his initial shirt is the Tiger Shirt.

As a lazy villager, Barold will be friendly and easy to get along with due to his laid back lifestyle. Like all lazy villagers, he has a love of food and relaxing. He will enjoy partaking in the usual hobbies, usually for relaxing reasons or for food, like when fishing. Barold will get along well with other villagers, but may offend or confuse jock villagers, who have a lifestyle of exercise and fitness, which conflicts with the lazy lifestyle of relaxing and food. He will get along with other lazy villagers with whom he will talk about food, comics, or superheroes. He will also get along well with normal, peppy, smug and sisterly villagers, and occasionally cranky villagers, but may from time to time annoy snooty villagers, who disagree with the lazy lifestyle.
In New Leaf, Barold's home has a computer, whiteboard, a printer, a pothos, a sleeping bag, a water cooler, a server, and a giant teddy bear. He has tiled flooring and a series of blinds for wallpaper. He has a tape deck which plays My Place.
In New Horizons, Barold's house is beige with a black vertical-panes door and gray slate roof. The interior has the security-monitors wall and an aluminium rug on the monochromatic tile flooring. He has a server, a black water cooler, a white shower booth, a black sleeping bag, a labelled cardboard box, a stack of books, a gray office desk, a silver bunk bed, a security uniform, a black modern office chair, a black laptop, a black portable radio, and a silver upright locker. A white wall-mounted phone hangs on the wall.
