Fortnite: Save the World is a cooperative sandbox survival game developed by Epic Games and People Can Fly and distributed by Epic Games. It was released as paid early access for Microsoft Windows, macOS, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on July 25, 2017; with a full free-to-play release planned for 2018.
Fortnite: Save the World is set on Earth today; where the sudden onset of a global storm has caused 98% of the population to go extinct, and zombie-like creatures have emerged to attack the survivors.
In Fortnite you can play cooperative missions with up to four players, located on randomly generated maps where they can collect resources; build fortifications around defensive targets that are meant to help fight the storm and protect survivors and build weapons and traps to engage in combat against waves of these creatures trying to destroy targets. Players earn rewards through these missions to upgrade their heroes, support teams, and arsenal of weapons and cheat schemes; to be able to take on more difficult missions. The game is maintained through microtransactions to purchase in-game money, which can be used for these updates.
A single mode, called Fortnite Battle Royale, was launched in parallel to this title. A battle royale genre, it is based on the same gameplay as the main installment; having been released for the same platforms in September 2017.

Synopsis
On one occasion 98% of the human population on Earth suddenly disappeared. The remaining humans discovered that the sky was covered with dense clouds, creating chaotic storms that lead to the appearance of shells; Zombie-like humanoid creatures that attack survivors.
These people found ways to build "storm shields," a field that clears storm clouds from above, while also reducing husk attacks; using them to establish survivor bases around the world. The player is a commander of one of these bases; in charge of leaving the shield to find resources, survivors, and other allies that help expand his storm shield and thus find a way to return the Earth to its normal state.
Gameplay
Save the World is described as a cooperative sandbox survival video game; whose main actions include exploring, searching for objects, creating weapons, building fortified structures, and fighting waves of invading monsters. The game is shown from a third-person perspective, and combines the management of resources from the base of operations with the exit to carry out missions that serve to collect resources and obtain rewards to advance in the story.
The player has an inventory that shows his scheme of weapons and traps, hero type characters, defensive and support, along with the resources collected. Schematics are used to build weapons and traps in the field. Hero characters represent characters from one of four classes that the player can use while on a mission, as well as to carry out resource gathering missions; with the condition of not being able to use them until they return from them. Defensive characters can be used to aid defensive tasks, but only if there are fewer than four players on the mission. Support characters are used to create non-playable squads that provide passive rewards to improve the player's attack strength, build speed, armor, and health; as well as other additional benefits.
Schematics and characters are assigned a rarity, which determines what levels and evolution they possess. The inventory is limited, so players can choose to keep items they don't need in a collector's book; with the intention of getting rewards once the sets of it are completed.
The player can use their skill points - earned after completing missions - and technology points - earned over time - to unlock new skills and available technologies. These improve basic attributes, unlocking higher evolution levels for schematics and characters; or unlock general skills that are used on the battlefield.
The video game has a total of four locations in the world, some of them only available after progressing enough in the story. Additionally, there are special locations used for temporary events or Survive the Storm mode. In each place there are several areas with possible missions, showing the type of these, and the terrain where they are carried out.
Many missions take place in randomly generated areas. Most consist of locating the places that the objectives represent on the map, building fortifications around them, and facing the different waves of husks that will try to destroy them. During missions, players can create their fortifications using one of three basic materials (wood, brick, and metal); as well as configurations that include floors, roofs, walls, stairs or ramps. Fortifications can also be improved with more resources of the same type.
One of the unique mission types is Storm Shield Defense. In any of the four locations, the player remains on a map that is active, showing where the base's storm shield generator is located; and in storm mode, the player must return to it to expand it, needing a new and successful defense to continue the story.
