Google considered buying Epic Games during the battle with Fortnite, according to several court documents

One of the most important plots of recent months within the video game industry was the dispute between Apple and Epic Games over Fortnite. The story also caused the developer of the battle royale to have serious friction with Google.

After the trial, new documents have come to light and as reported by The Verge, it has been learned that Google even considered buying Epic Games to put an end to the problems with the game and Play Store.

Epic Games alleged that the company had decided to circumvent the requirements of the Android store, to which Google could have decided to respond by buying something or everything from Epic Games.

Not content with the contractual and technical barriers it has carefully constructed to eliminate competition, Google uses its size, influence, power and money to induce third parties to anti-competitive deals that further entrench its monopolies, the document cites.

For example, Google has gone so far as to share its monopoly profits with business partners to secure their agreement to hedge the competition, he explained.

It has developed a number of internal projects to address the 'contagion' it perceived from efforts by Epic and others to offer consumers and developers competitive alternatives, and even has contemplated buying part or all of Epic to quell this threat.

The court document does not elaborate more on this matter, although what is clear is that in the end, this action was not carried out. However, these plans had remained a secret until now.
