Behavior

Grumpy neighbors tend to act quite bitter, rude, and stubborn, and are easily angered if things don't go their way (hence the name "grumpy"), including that they can already protest anything. They are also generally out of touch with social trends, making them generally unpopular with cheerful neighbors. They all have a deep voice (unlike any other type of neighbor) and many have scowled from the very first Animal Crossing.

The grumpy neighbors wake up at 10:00 a.m. and it is not known for sure when they go to bed. They usually go to bed around 05:00 a.m. and sometimes even later. In addition, on the poster that they put on their doors when they sleep they put something like "if you wake me up, you'll regret it", and if they are outside, they say: "I'm not here. Period." In Wild World and City Folk (Let's Go to the City), they fall asleep at 04:30 and wake up at 10:00. In New Leaf they fall asleep at 4:00 a.m. and wake up at 10:00 a.m., and New Horizons, they fall asleep at 03:30 a.m. and wake up at 9:00 a.m.

Relationships

They don't talk to anyone at first, and will usually say something offensive to the player. This changes as they become friends. Normally, they will come out to give the player insulting nicknames, such as "Moco" or "Barnacle" and when they are sick, they usually insult the disease. Although they may seem unsympathetic, if the player talks to them, runs errands, and sends them letters long enough, they will eventually start to open up and become more player-friendly.

In the first Animal Crossing, a grumpy neighbor can talk to the player about his niece after befriending him. Also, in City Folk (Let's Go to the City), they can tell this to another grumpy neighbor. When a grumpy neighbor gets sad, he will say that he lives in a cold world. They can usually become close friends with the player if the player meets them often and sends them letters with attached gifts.

Grumpy neighbors find it best to get along with other grumpies, usually talking about trivial things like food and problems with unhealthy food. They also get along with lazy neighbors, athletic ones, and normal neighbors most of the time, but can still offend them if the wrong things have been said. They find it particularly difficult to get along with cheerful and sweet neighbors, expressing their disgust for snobbish neighbors and cocky neighbors. In the case of a sweet neighbor, because both personalities are stubborn and opinionated, the two will clash with different opinions.

Occasionally they may be good friends with a snobbish neighbor or a snooty neighbor, but they will still express their dislike. Therefore, conversations between a grumpy neighbor and a neighbor of one of these personality types will result in one of them becoming depressed, and sometimes the grumpy ones will tell the player that things are getting boring, so They are considering spreading rumors about another neighbor and "watching the fun." The usual response of cheerful neighbors is to call them "old men" or "grandparents."
