The house is the place where both the player and the neighbors live. As in real life, you choose it at the hands of a real estate agent (Tom Nook), and you are assigned a mortgage, which will be paid through bank transfers and will be recharged based on reforms and a certain period of continuous having a light on.
The house can be decorated as you want, putting furniture, plants and you can even change the wallpaper and the floor. If a player has not played Animal Crossing for quite some time, when he enters the house it will be full of roaches. They hide under furniture, and you have to step on them.
Outside the house, next to the front door, is the mailbox, where players can receive emails from other players or neighbors.

Neighbors' house
Each neighbor will have his own, and normally each neighbor has a fixed decoration. Their house only has one floor with a space of 8x8. There are many types of houses for the neighbors, while for the player there is only one type. If you give them furniture they will put it in their house.
Beginning with Animal Crossing: New Leaf, neighbors can visit each other.
Roof
At each renovation, after having paid the mortgage (debts) you can talk to Tom Nook and he will offer to change the color of the exterior roof of your house. You can change it to:
- Light Blue
- Pink
- Orange
- finanacing
- White
- Brown
- Red color:
- Black
- Yellow:
- Violeta
- Navy blue
- Strong green
When you have a specific store (SuperNook (En Wii) HiperNook (In GameCube) o Nook's (En DS) you can change the color of the roof of your house by buying buckets of paint that Tom Nook sells in his store. One per day. Paint buckets have more variety.
Base House
You start with a 4x4 room. In GameCube the attic does not exist. As we said there are two floors, one up and one down. The one below will have 3 Furniture that are; 1 Light Object (lamps, candles ...), 1 Radio and 1 Box. The top one will have as many beds as there are players living in the house. You can change your attic bed by pressing in the front of the bed, that is, the part closest to the feet. When you get 70.000 AAD points, they will give you a mini-building in the shape of the first house you got, when you get 100.000 points, it will give you a bigger house and with 150.000 a mini-mansion. In Animal Crossing: New Leaf our The first house will be a tent with a box attached to a post like Mailbox (Below) and as in GameCube the attic does not exist either, and the light object is a lantern that gives you Cinnamon the first time you enter your house (tent of Campaign) and tells you some things about how she went camping when she was little and your "house" reminds her of the old days.

Exterior reform
In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, in addition to the interior reforms and extensions, the exterior can be reformed to our liking by ordering pieces from Nook Real Estate that will be built the next day. They differ: floors, doors, mailboxes, facades, roofs and even styles or "complete houses", which are unlocked by having a large number of interior renovations.

After paying off all eight loans, Tom Nook lets you choose the colors and styles of the house to your liking.
After paying the mortgage
In the old ancient versions, after paying the mortgage, the player will receive a Statue that will be placed between the housing and the station.
In Animal Forest e +, in addition to receiving a statue, the player will also receive a Private Island.
In the new versions, the player is not rewarded for paying all the mortgages, except in Animal Crossing: City Folk / Let's Go To The City, where Tom Nook puts a customizable flag on your house.
Curiosities
In Animal Forest, when completing the collection of fish you can put a weathervane (of a fish) on the roof of your house, and when completing the collection of insects, an awning of the same color as the roof above the door and above the awning a symbol or figure (of a butterfly).
