What is ping
If you experience lag problems while playing Fortnite, these could be due to the presence of a high ping. For this reason, before explaining yourself in detail how to see ping on Fortnite, I have to give you a very brief introduction to explain what ping is and show you what its optimal value is.
Il ping is the acronym of Internet Groper Packet and it is a system that is used to measure the timing of data transmission from point A to point B (in this case from your device to the Fortnite servers). It is expressed in milliseconds (ms) and is one of the main indicators that measures the quality of the Internet connection. Its optimal value must be no more than 80ms: above this value, the ping is considered insufficient and this can cause delays in data transmission, which in the game can cause latency problems.
During this tutorial I will not go into the technical merits of how to lower the ping, in the event that, by verifying the same on Fortnite, I should find the presence of a high value. See the ping on Fortnite from a computer
If you want see the ping on Fortnite from a computer, start by launching the game client you previously downloaded and installed on your computer. Then double-click on the icon Fortnite that you find on the deskop Windows or select the same icon from the Launchpad of macOS (if you have a Mac) or, again, start the Launcher di Epic Games, and in its main screen, click on the button starts that you find in correspondence with the Fortnite.
As soon as the game has started, select the game mode of your interest (eg. Battle royal), pressing on its menu item, then wait for the game to load and press the key Esc, to see the screen of the Lobby.
At this point, if you want to see the ping on Fortnite, you have to start a game (as the option you need to activate it is only visible during a match). After that, press the button Play (which you can see in the screenshot Lobby), wait for matchmaking to find a match to assign yourself to and, as soon as the match has started, press the Esc of the keyboard, so you can see a box at the top with the details of the team.
In the menu that appears, click the a symbol gear that you see in the upper right corner, click on thegear located in the top menu bar and then click on the tab Interface.
At this point, in the Settings, make sure the item Actual bug statistics is set to Yes, otherwise activate it using the appropriate lever and confirm the operation by pressing Apply. He then goes back to the match screen.
As you can see, by activating this menu item you can find information on the ping in the upper left corner of the screen: then refer to its numerical value and the indications provided in the previous chapter to understand if you have a high ping.
See the ping on Fortnite from smartphones and tablets
You can see the ping on Fortnite even if you are playing this famous video game on Android or iOS (platform on which only the mode is available Battle royal).
To proceed, start the game by pressing on its icon that you find on the main screen of your device or in the drawer (the section where there is a list of all the apps and games installed), then wait for the main screen to load, in to view the section Lobby.
Now, start a new game, so you can activate the option that allows you to see the ping in game. Then press the button Play located in the lower right corner and, as soon as the game has started, tap on the symbol (☰) which you can see in the upper right corner. Then, in the context menu, tap on thegear.
At this point, you will find the settings screen: press on the symbol of a gear that you can see located at the top of the menu bar, then tap on the tab Interface. Finally, make sure the item Actual debug statistics is set to Yes, otherwise move the lever to activate it.
To confirm the operation, press the button Apply and then Go back, in order to return to the game screen and see the item on the screen, in the upper left corner ping and its relative numerical value.
See the ping on Fortnite from the console
You are playing Fortnite on consul and would you like to know if you have a high ping, to understand if the lag problems are due to your Internet connection? Don't worry, doing it is very simple; carefully follow the instructions you find in the next lines.
To see the ping on Fortnite from the console start the game by selecting its icon that you find on the main screen or in the one with the list of all the apps and games installed. Once this is done, select with the controller the game mode of your interest between Battle royal o Save the world, then wait for the main screen named Lobby and start a new game by selecting the button Play (on PS4 press the button triangle, on Xbox One the button Y).
The option relating to the activation of debug statistics can only be activated in the game, using the menu Settings. So, once it starts up, press the button right away menu on the controller (is that Options on PS4 and the one with the symbol ☰ on Xbox One) so you can see the team information section above.
Now, select the a symbol gear and then, using the buttons on the controller as instructed on the screen (for example on PS4 press on R2), go to the card Interface located in the next displayed menu.
