Museum information
Population: on the rise!
This is one of those fish that mysteriously disappear from time to time, to the despair of anglers. - Socrates.
Wild world
Japanese salmon is prized for its beauty and delicate flavor. What I don't know anymore is whether it can be cooked or can only be eaten in sushi! - Socrates.
City Folk/Let's Go to the City
The first thing that catches the attention of Japanese salmon is its greenish tone and the moles on its belly. All those little dots of different sizes ... It's very fashionable, don't you think? - Socrates.
New Leaf
The specks that cover the Japanese salmon serve as camouflage and are seen in other salmon as well. Most of them stay in the river their whole life, but some decide to migrate to the sea. The normal specimens reach half a meter in length and two and a half kilos in weight. Their beautiful scales and good body balance make them very attractive for angling. Also, the fact that they have an elusive character makes it that much more challenging. - Museum panel.
New Horizons
The Japanese salmon is a relative of the salmon, and is recognized by its dot-shaped spots. Those spots disappear as the fish matures, but that only happens in some regions. Poor zoologists, who have to figure out the variations in the Japanese salmon craze. - Socrates

Extra information
Distributed by the Pacific Ocean in the Sea of Okhotsk, in the Sea of Japan and along the Japanese Pacific coast. The largest Japanese salmon found is 79 cm and weighs 10 kg. When they live in the river they maintain a territory near the head of the river where they feed mainly on insects, but also on some small crustaceans and fish, while when they live in the sea they form schools when they reach the estuary and remain there for a short stage. after which they disperse in the open sea where they feed on fish and crustaceans. It is marketed in abundance, both its fishing and that cultivated in aquaculture, being sold both fresh and frozen. It is also used in sport fishing.
