History
Spoiler !: Below are details of the plot that you may not want to know (Skip Section)Kingdom Hearts II happens after Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. Roxas is a seemingly normal boy, who lives in Twilight Town with his friends Hayner, Pence and Olette. Roxas dreams of people he has never seen and memories that do not belong to him. In addition, a
Guy named Axel appears, as does a red-bandaged character (DiZ), they both seem to know something about him, but Roxas can't remember them. Thus, during different periods of time, Roxas has the power to wield the Keyblade, which, despite not having seen it before, knows how to use perfectly, while several strange events begin to occur in Twilight Town. Finally, Roxas discovers Sora sleeping in the basement of the mansion and after agreeing that he must join him, he disappears. Sora and his companions have been sleeping for almost a year to regain their memory, after the events that occurred in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, until he finally wakes up together with Donald and Goofy without remembering how they got there and with the Diary of Pepito in white, with nothing more than a note that says "Thank Naminé" for which they decide to return to their original objective: to find King Mickey and Riku.
After meeting the King and speaking with Yen Sid, the group is informed that they must revisit many worlds to protect them from both the Heartless and the Nobodies, other beings of darkness who are led by a mysterious group known as the Organization. XIII.
During the course of the journey, the Heartless, led by revived Maleficent and the Organization, forced Sora to go fight a massive army of 1000 Heartless who are attacking Hollow Hold. Along the way, they learn that the Ansem they fought a year ago was actually Xehanort's Heartless, and that Xehanort's Nobody Xemnas is the leader of Organization XIII. They also learn that Xehanort was an apprentice to the real Ansem, whose whereabouts are unknown.
After the battle, Xemnas appears and reveals his ultimate goal: the Nobodies are going to create another Kingdom Hearts, a gateway to the heart of all worlds that, presumably, would allow the Nobodies to get hearts and return to existence. After facing and defeating more members of the Organization,
Sora heads to The Non-existent World to settle accounts with the leader of the latter, where he finally also reunites with his friends Riku and Kairi. Sora learns the truth about Roxas, and Naminé discovering that they are, respectively, Sora and Kairi's Nobodies, created when they lost their hearts.
In the end, only Xemnas remain of the original thirteen members of the Organization. Sora and Riku team up to defeat him and close their new Kingdom Hearts. Sora and the others return home to the Destiny Islands. Even though Sora has to say goodbye to Donald and Goofy, he knows in his heart that true friends never leave. However, some time later, Sora, Riku, and Kairi receive a letter from King Mickey.
Gameplay
Kingdom Hearts II offers a number of fundamental differences from the original Kingdom Hearts. While the game base remains the same, there are new features that have been added to enhance the experience. Most notable are the Fusion Forms that allow Sora to merge with one or both of his team's allies and assume new powers; and the Reaction Commandos, which allows them to perform special maneuvers.
The Gumi Ship system has also notably changed, being mandatory only to do the route the first time that world is visited, in addition to the ship's playability has been significantly increased and mission levels have been added to the ship.
There are many new minigames, such as Skateboarding, that can be used to move quickly through the world stage. Many worlds now have specific mini-games of their own, such as the Paranoid Space Light Bike or the various jobs in Twilight Town. The cups of the Olympus Coliseum are now made in the Underworld and there are several specific rules for different combats (Battle in the dark, timed battle, etc.). The Hundred Acre Forest returns again and is made up entirely of minigames. Atlántica has also gone from being an explorable world to a musical set of minigames.
Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix
Main article: Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix + is a bundle containing Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, a new and improved version of Kingdom Hearts II with more enemies, additional scenes and many other items, such as an expansion of the worlds, and the addition of Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories, which gives the player access to more cards if there is a complete Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix game on the Memory Card.Censorship
- When Sora fights the Hydra in the Olympus Coliseum, green blood gushes out when Sora damages him. The blood was changed from green to a black and purple smoke in the English version, although in the scene where Hercules was fighting it retains the green blood. The reason for this change is unknown, as even in the original movie he had green blood.
- Xigbar's telescopic sight was changed. What was a black cross-shaped shadow in the Japanese version turned into three glowing circles that come together to lock in the target.
- An attack animation was also altered. In the Japanese version, Xigbar combines his two firearms to create a sniper rifle, which was used to pin the player during the telescopic sight sequence. In the English version, Xigbar does not combine his weapons, but spins them around him and shoots Sora with a single cannon, holding the other at his side.
- Axel's death is lightly edited. In the original Japanese version, he bursts into flames during his suicide attack and the flames consume his body as he vanishes. In the edited version he vanishes into a kind of smoke of darkness, as all members of Organization XIII usually do.
- At Disney Castle, while Donald is being chased around for missing a date, Daisy hits him on the backside in the Japanese version, while in the English version she just gives him a no-go. listen.
- Port Royal contains most of the censored content.
- When Will Turner threatens suicide, he points the gun at his head in the Japanese version, while in the English version he just keeps it by his side.
- Zombie Pirates do not light up when affected by fire magic, although the Pirate Grim Reaper still does (mimicking fire with a light and running around fuming instead of burning). Pirate muskets were modified to resemble crossbows, although such crossbows still fire with the sound effect of a musket fire.
- In the original Japanese version, the blood on the cursed medallions remains throughout the match, but disappears after Barbossa drops them on the chest.
- In the Japanese version, when Jack Sparrow is stabbed by Barbossa, the sword protrudes from his chest as he staggers back into the moonlight. In the English version, the sword has been removed.
- The dialogue in Port Royal was also edited. When Barbossa tells Elizabeth about her curse, he mentions lust and women, which is removed in the English version and replaced by "pleasant company." Still, this is exactly the original line used in the movie.
- A world based on the movie "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" was to appear in Kingdom Hearts II, but this idea was not carried out due to possible similarities to the world of Beast Castle, although this world was later added. in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance known as La Cité des Cloches.
Trivia
- In the English version, Sora's Final Form varies in the color pattern of his pants. If the player looks closely, the pattern resembles the Master Form rather than his own design.
- This was the last game in the Kingdom Hearts saga to be dubbed in several European languages. Future European versions of the series would use translated text with English voices.
- In a short cinematic video after the end credits of the North American version of Kingdom Hearts II, where the characters Sora, Riku and Kairi are seen in Destiny Islands, the sound is out of sync with the animation, this is most noticeable when Kairi shows Sora the message on the bottle.
- Before the final battle, it is possible to see Kairi's underwear from a low angle of the camera.
- It is the first game in the saga in which Kingdom Hearts is shown, the second was Birth by Sleep.
- A world based on the movie "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" was going to appear in Kingdom Hearts II, but this idea was not carried out due to possible similarities to the world of Beast Castle, although this world was later added. in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance.
