Kingdom Hearts is a free manga adaptation by cartoonist Shiro Amano from the Kingdom Hearts saga. The manga was licensed in the US by TOKYOPOP and in Spain by Planeta DeAgostini. The manga tells the story of the video games in the saga, with the same characters and settings but with a more comic and simple touch.
Currently the manga in Japan is not published since Shiro Amano has stated that he has stopped working on it.
Summary
History
Kingdom Hearts (Manga)
The first series was based on the first Kingdom Hearts and was released in four separate books. Unlike the other manga, the first manga was flipped so that it could be read from left to right, while the others stayed like the originals, to be read from right to left. The series was reissued in three volumes in Japan in December 2006 as "Kingdom Hearts Final Mix". Only the three volumes of the Final Mix edition arrived in Spain.

After the events in Kingdom Hearts, Sora's Story continues in the 2 separate volumes of Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, in which Riku's Story can also be seen. Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories was released in Japan in 2005. The manga is much lighter than the original game and its story differs in some respects from the original. For example, Sora's final battle against Marluxia takes place in his flower garden where he is prey to Naminé.

Kingdom Hearts II (Manga)
The third series was based on Kingdom Hearts II. This series is divided into ten volumes, however only the first two volumes have been published in English by TOKYOPOP, which has since lost the rights to distribute it, while eight have been released in Spanish by Planeta DeAgostini, in German by Egmont Manga & Anime and in Italy by Disney Manga. Kingdom Hearts II seems to have a more serious tone than the Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories manga, but it still has some humorous scenes.

The fourth season of the manga is based on Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. In Japan, 5 volumes and a "Pre-Manga" were released. The entire Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days manga has been published in Spanish by Planeta DeAgostini.

Spanish translation
In the first instance, the volumes of Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories were published by Planeta DeAgostini as of 2007 in Spanish in its entirety, and Kingdom Hearts II, the first five volumes. Later, the publisher issued a press release stating that it no longer owned the Disney rights, and therefore would not continue editing the volumes already published or releasing the pending ones. In 2015, PlanetaComic relaunched all the previously published volumes with a "facelift" (different covers, typography ...) and continued to edit the pending volumes of Kingdom Hearts II, as well as those of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. These new editions are recognizable because the titles are not written with the typical font of the series, but rather by a more neutral one (although the official logo of the corresponding video game also appears). The new editions, despite the new presentation, partly recreate the first, incorporating, for example, the same text on the flaps of the covers ("Remnants of a dream that seem like distant memories, distant memories that seem like remnants of a dream. I would like to unite them all ... together with you ", in the case of the Kingdom Hearts II manga).
Similarly, "fan-made" translations (produced by non-professional amateurs) of all comics proliferate on the Internet.
Licensing issues
Despite the English translation and the publication of the manga in the United States has been postponed, the launch of volumes 3, 4 and 5 of Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days in the United States is not planned. This is because TOKYOPOP lost the manga's license. Disney and Square Enix have not made any public comment on the future of the Kingdom Hearts manga.
