El Master Eraqus is one of the protagonists of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep and is the mentor and teacher of Ventus, Aqua and Terra. He loves and protects his students as a true father would, but he is also very strict and does not tolerate the Dark in the world, as it endangers the balance of existence. So much so that he attacked Terra and Ventus during a tragic scene in the game.

About

Ventus, Aqua and Terra

Master of the Keyblade and mentor to Terra, Aqua, and Ventus. Of strong convictions, he despises everything that darkness represents and believes that a Master of the Keyblade cannot hold even the slightest bit of it in his heart. Despite his strict character, he has a soft spot for his young disciples.

Arma

Master Eraqus wields a basic-looking, gray-hued Keyblade called the Master's Salvage. It has a dark gray shaft and a square-shaped base, the teeth of the key form an "E", the same letter that begins its first name. Curiously, this keychain is the symbol that the Master, Aqua, Terra and Ven wear on their clothes.

It has been shown that he has great knowledge in magic of all kinds, casting great spells against his students in order to destroy Ventus, however he recognizes that the darkness had taken effect on him, since he had attacked his students, when he died. he fades into Light, which means that his heart was very calm and serene, in addition to having great mastery in this field.

His Keyblade appears in the Kingdom Hearts III trailer.

Curiosities

Master Eraqus's clothing bears great similarities to those of Terra, Aqua, and Ven. Especially with Terra, for her hakama and boots.
Master Eraqus's appearance is based on Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of Final Fantasy.
At one point in the Birth by Sleep story, Terra calls Eraqus father. This is symbolically, referring to the great bond between the two, since he is their teacher.
"Eraqus" is an anagram of "Square", similarly to that "Yen Sid" is an anagram of "Disney".
In the Final Mix version you can fight with a secret boss called "Eraqus Armor", which is neither more nor less than Eraqus's armor, and he fights in a similar way to him, like Latent Consciousness and Terra.
The voice of Master Eraqus in English is that of Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker in Star Wars) and that of Master Xehanort, his rival, is that of Leonard Nimoy (Captain Spock in Star Trek). It is not known if it was intentional or just a coincidence.
