HR Princesses of the Heart (Seven Princess, Sebun purinsesu en japonés, Princesses of Heart in English) is a concept introduced in the first Kingdom Hearts. They are seven maidens whose hearts are of pure light, devoid of all darkness, apparently the only hearts that have been born naturally free of darkness. If the princesses are all reunited, their hearts can invoke the Final Lock that leads to Kingdom Hearts.

Princesses who lose their hearts do not become heartless due to the lack of darkness that triggers that process. However, it is possible that they are believed to be Nobodies on special occasions, such as Kairi's Nobody: Naminé.

Members

The Princesses of the Heart are known as such by the characteristic of their respective hearts, without this term having a necessary relationship with the office of royalty. Six of them are Disney characters, with only five who officially belong to the "Disney Princesses" franchise and therefore, if they act as royal princesses in their worlds. Alicia and Kairi are the only Princesses of the Heart who have no relation to the title, apart from Bella and Cinderella at first until marrying their respective princes.

The seven Princesses of the Heart are as follows:

Kairi - Former resident of Radiant Garden and adopted daughter of the mayor of the Destiny Islands.
Alice (from Alice in Wonderland) - A seven-year-old girl who fell down a mysterious burrow to Wonderland.
Snow White (from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs) - The princess of the Forest of the Dwarfs.
Yasmin (from Aladdin) - The princess of Agrabah.
Bella (from Beauty and the Beast) - A young "prisoner" in Beast's Castle.
Cinderella (from Cinderella) - The princess of the Castle of Dreams.
Aurora (from Sleeping Beauty) - The princess of the Enchanted Kingdom.

The new hearts of light

Anna (from "Frozen") - The princess of Arendelle, is also Elsa's younger sister.
Elsa (from "Frozen"): the queen of Arendelle who has the ability to create and manipulate ice and snow.
Rapunzel (from "Tangled") - The lost princess of the Kingdom of Corona, who was trapped in a tower with long, magical golden hair.

Kingdom Hearts

The seven Princesses of the Heart make their first appearance at the beginning of the first game, during Sora's "journey" on his Descent to the Heart. There are four stained glass windows depicting the four princesses that have been captured in the pre-game events: Snow White, Bella, Cinderella, and Aurora. There is also a fifth stained glass window with three stylized silhouettes representing the three princesses that are still free: Alicia, Yasmín and Kairi.

In order to open the final lock, Maleficent and Riku kidnap each of the three free princesses throughout the game.

During this wave of kidnappings, Riku goes to Neverland, where Captain Hook holds Wendy, believing that she was also one of the seven princesses. After that, Maleficent determines that Wendy is a red herring and that Kairi was actually the missing princess. But because Kairi had given her heart to Sora during the destruction of the Destiny Islands, the power of the princesses' hearts could not be fully utilized.

Changing Maleficent's plans, Ansem, the Seeker of Darkness uses the hearts of the remaining six princesses to create the People's Heart Keyblade, which could free Kairi's heart from within Sora. When they confront each other later, Ansem mentions to Sora the state of Kairi's heart. When Sora realizes the truth, he stabs himself with the Keyblade through the heart, freeing Kairi's heart. This action also returns the hearts to the six princesses and subsequently opens the final lock.

All the princesses (except Kairi) remain in Hollow Bastion to stop the flow of darkness that had begun to seep from the still-open lock that Sora was supposed to close. Once the lock is sealed, the princesses patiently await Ansem's defeat so they can return to their respective worlds, which ultimately happened when Kingdom Hearts was sealed and the worlds were restored.

Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories

Alicia, Yasmín, Bella and Kairi appear in this game being reproduced by the Castle of Oblivion through Sora's memories.

Alicia is, once again, captured by the Queen of Hearts, accused of stealing her memory, but Sora achieves her release.

Bella reappears in Hollow Bastion, where the witch Maleficent forces her to turn Beast into a Heartless, but she refuses and eventually sacrifices herself to protect Beast. She is later restored by the defeat of Maleficent.

Yasmin is once again captured by the evil vizier Jafar. However, Aladdin and Sora arrive on time. Aladdin hopes to become a prince to conquer the princess, but later decides to be himself so that Yasmín loves him for who he is.

Kairi does not appear in person, even though she plays the most important role of all the princesses. As Sora, Donald, Goofy, and Pepito ascend the Castle of Oblivion, Sora's memories of her begin to alter and she is eventually replaced by her Nobody, Naminé. But by remembering Kairi again, Sora begins to recover his lost memory that had been altered by Naminé.

In Riku's story, Naminé appears as Kairi to tell her not to hide in the darkness of her heart.

Kingdom Hearts 358 / 2 Days

Yasmín and Bella appear in their respective worlds with minor roles in this game. Kairi is mentioned several times by Xion and Naminé, as well as reflected in Xion's appearance to Roxas. Although Wonderland appears, Alice does not because she is no longer in that world.

Kingdom Hearts II

Bella and Yasmín once again play a prominent role in their respective worlds, but not as Princesses of the Heart. Both are worried about their loved ones.

Bella is being held in the east wing of Beast Castle, who is affected by Xaldin's influence. She meets Sora and company. When they arrive he tells them that Beast has locked all his servants in the castle dungeon. After freeing them, they go to follow Xaldin, but end up facing a giant Heartless in the ballroom. Beast helps them defeat the monster.

Some time later, Beauty and Beast organize a party along with a dance, which is interrupted by Xaldin once more, who steals Beast's prized rose, which depresses him to such an extent that he decides to kick Bella and Sora out of the castle. Bella manages to retrieve the rose when she is captured by Xaldin and runs towards the castle, allowing Sora and the Beast to defeat him. The Beast asks Bella if she wants to stay with him, who happily accepts.

Yasmín greets Sora, Donald, and Goofy when they first arrive in Agrabah and tells them of her concern for Aladdin, who goes out into town in search of adventure. She asks them to find him and try to find out what is wrong with him. Sometime later, Jafar is freed from his lamp and Agrabah finds himself in chaos, while Iago leads Sora and the others into a trap, Jafar captures Yasmin and prepares to reign over the world. The four warriors, however, escape his trap and manage to return in time to stop the evil Jafar for the last time.

In the world of Tron, Paranoid Space, the password to access the DTD in the data space is the names of the seven princesses. But when the PCM tries to get the password, Tron changes it to the names Sora, Donald, and Goofy.

Kairi is the princess with the most important role, who indirectly connects with Roxas and with Sora's memories at the same time, whom she has almost completely forgotten due to Naminé's magic. She is later captured by Organization XIII in their attempt to increase Sora's anger, causing the destruction of more Heartless and the release of more hearts to fuel the construction of Kingdom Hearts. In the Nonexistent World, she is rescued by her Nobody, Naminé, and meets Riku and Sora later. Since they no longer have anywhere to go, they head towards the tower of the Non-existent Castle in order to confront Xemnas and end the war once and for all.

Once the fight is over, she returns home to her friends, with Naminé and Roxas joining her and Sora, respectively.

Kingdom Hearts Re:coded

Digital versions of Alicia and Yasmín are created by the Binarama in their respective worlds.

In this story, Alicia has lost her memories and the Digital Sora must help her get them back, while Yasmín is merely captured by Jafar's data, waiting to be rescued.

Kairi appears in the Neverland clock tower along with Riku in a flashback that the digital Riku shows to the digital Sora. At the end of the game, Kairi appears alongside the royals Sora and Riku in the Destiny Islands.

Powers and abilities

Common powers

The seven princesses possess only the light within their hearts. These hearts of pure light allow them to open the final lock on Hollow Bastion, which is supposed to have absolute power over the worlds. However, it can only be opened when all the hearts are gathered. Once the lock is opened, the hearts return to the princesses.

The purity of their hearts also grants them the ability to keep darkness at a distance or to hold it temporarily. The greater the number of princesses gathered, this skill is more effective. Additionally, they can sense the darkness, as shown by five of the princesses telling Sora of the near presence of darkness.

They have also shown an ability to manipulate the powers of other people, for example, five of the princesses granted Sora the power of fire, enhancing his magic Pyro + to Pyro ++.

According to the manga, the princesses of the heart are able to travel through the Corridors of Darkness without any negative effect, since without the darkness in their hearts, they cannot be harmed. Also, in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Maleficent explains to Terra that she cannot take her heart away from Aurora because it is pure light.

Nexo-D

Cinderella becomes a D-Nexus for Terra, Ventus, and Aqua in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, as well as Snow White for Ventus and Aqua, after the events of their respective worlds have elapsed. As Nexus-D, they can project their power to all three Keyblade wielders while remaining in their home world.

Curiosities

In Kingdom Hearts, if the story of Deep Jungle is finished before Wonderland, in the Maleficent scene plans for the discussion about the princesses, Snow White will appear as the victim instead of Alice, since she has not been captured yet.
Kairi is the only exclusive Heart Princess in the Kingdom Hearts series.
In the Kingdom Hearts Ultimania guide there was a mistake and they called them princesses of light.
Although the Princesses of the Heart are the only ones who have a heart of pure light, there is an exception with Ventus, as he is the only male in the entire saga with a heart of pure light because Master Xehanort extracted the darkness from it to create to Vanitas.
Mulan and Ariel have also appeared in the saga, who are officially part of the Disney Princess franchise, although they are not Princesses of the Heart.
