Appearance

In this form Riku takes on the appearance of Ansem, the Seeker of Darkness. He has gray / silver hair, brown skin, and yellow eyes, which represent Darkness. The suit he is wearing is the one he had before resorting to the Dark, the one from Organization XIII. Also, it should be noted that Riku in this form is exactly identical to Ansem, the Seeker of Darkness.

The form chosen and used by Riku for a long time, Sora's friend.
Although Xehanort tried to control Riku from within, Riku's heart was stronger.
But the only way to fully utilize the darkness was to become like this.
Riku started calling himself "Ansem", perhaps as a sign of resolve. He lives in the dark, and that's how long it took him to wake up Sora.

History

Kingdom Hearts 358 / 2 Days

Riku teams up with DiZ, since they both have the same goal: to help Sora with his awakening (at the same time, he recovers certain pieces of memory related to his partner, since the reconstruction of memory that Naminé performs affects all Sora's acquaintances). Despite being companions, Riku does not want to be part of DiZ's revenge, well it helps him in some way ... DiZ asks Riku to capture Roxas, Sora's incorporeal, as he begins to have problems with his memory.

If Sora and Roxas team up, Roxas will wake up. Riku enters a halo of Darkness and is transported to the Nonexistent World, where he finds Roxas on the run. They engage in a fierce fight where Keyblades are exchanged and enemies strike… but Riku loses. There is no other solution, you have to use the dark. As a result, his body is modified and takes the form of his greatest enemy: Xehanort's Heartless. So with his new powers, he defeats Roxas and takes him to DiZ's hideout, in the Old Mansion in Twilight Town. His partner is amazed who he is ... or what he has become ... even more so when he introduces himself by the name of "Ansem".

Kingdom Hearts II

Riku, entering his Ansem form, helps DiZ with the process of merging Roxas with Sora. Occasionally he appears before Roxas in the Twilight Town Simulation, and on one occasion steals the Platines bag and Struggle's Trophy Crystal Orb, which he later gives to King Mickey to give to Sora. He also interrupts Naminé's conversation with Roxas, and keeps her out of the Nobodies on the sixth day when Roxas enters the old mansion. After Sora awakens, Riku allows Axel and Naminé to go out freely, despite DiZ's orders to eliminate Naminé.

At the end of the Battle of the 1000 Heartless in which Sora, Donald and Goofy are ushered into a Corridor of Darkness by Maleficent. While they are there, Riku appears briefly, leaving a box with a sea salt ice cream and a photo of the Twilight Town simulation, depicting Hayner, Pence, Olette, and Roxas.

He appears again in the Land of Dragons, where Mulan is investigating rumors of a spy in black. Sora, Donald, and Goofy accompany her to the summit, where they confront a swarm of Sudden Rockets. As Donald, Goofy, and Mulan move on, the hooded man appears before Sora, who fights Riku amid the swarm. After a short battle, Riku escapes, but Sora begins to suspect who he really is. Riku travels to the Imperial Palace, where he subdues Li Shang before warning the Emperor about the Storm Rider. After this, Riku leaves the world.

After Naminé helps Kairi escape from her cell in the Non-existent World, she is confronted by Saïx and a pair of Madmen. However, Riku appears and defeats the Madders before Saïx leaves. Kairi realizes who she is when Naminé calls her name, and she takes off her hood to reveal Ansem's face. Riku leads Kairi to the upper level of the Hall of Hollow Melodies, where Sora faces a massive wave of Shadows. When the shadows attack Kairi, Riku dispatches the Heartless and leaves the Embrace of Fate Keyblade in Kairi's hands. He then summons his Keyblade, and he and Kairi fight the enemies. After Sora defeats Xigbar and heads upstairs, he runs into Kairi and Riku. At first Sora believes that Riku is Ansem, but Kairi helps him realize who Riku really is. After an emotional reunion, Sora, Kairi, Riku, Donald, and Goofy continue through the castle, running into and defeating Luxord and Saïx. At the Altar of Unbeing, Ansem the Wise explodes while attempting to turn Kingdom Hearts into data. The resulting explosion causes Riku to return to his true form, leaving this appearance behind.

Skills

While Riku is in this form, he gains full control over the dark powers of Ansem, the Seeker of Darkness. He can levitate, summon the Guardian, teleport, and expel blasts of dark energy (although this is only shown when he actually transforms). He also gains his ability to make Fatuo Fire, as he did in his Dark Form, and he also gains the ability to use a Dark Shield (which he had in his normal form). You can also open and use Corridors of Darkness. In this way, he is easily able to defeat Roxas and Li Shang, and to dominate Saïx, forcing him to flee.

However, when Xemnas' Kingdom Hearts exploded, it was reversed in this way, his heart was no longer corrupted by darkness, so he could no longer use many of Riku-Ansem's abilities (as revealed when they tried to get out from the Non-existent World, and Riku was unable to open a Corridor of Darkness).

Curiosities

• When Ansem, the Seeker of Darkness dons the Organization XIII costume in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, he has the same appearance as Riku in this form, as Riku is identical to him wearing it, and when donning the costume, makes them identical.
