Valve, is working on better the list of games compatible with SteamOS before its launch from December 2021, as some will not be able to run.
Unless Valve turns the tables, in Steam deck Titles like Destiny 2, PUBG or Apex Legends will not be playable. The next console to play with Steam, or any operating system, has a SteamOS compatibility issue facing certain games.
Valve's idea is good, only it has a slight flaw right now: some of the most popular games on Steam they cannot be played. As a Linux based system, SteamOS has a selection of compatible games.
Given this, Valve developed Proton, a system similar to Wine which helps native Windows games run on your SteamOS. This increased the list of games, even though (as sometimes) there are slight exceptions.
As we can see in ProtonDB, almost half of the 10 most popular games on Steam (Destiny 2, Apex Legends, PUBG y Rainbow Six Siege) will not work on SteamOS. The culprit appears to be Valve's anti-cheat software.

In most cases, the game will run, but not the software, so it will not be possible to play online. Valve has notified that Steam Deck will arrive with a new version of SteamOS and "is improving game compatibility with Proton and will support the software by working directly with vendors."
In short, developers will not have to do anything to make your games work on SteamOS. However, it would help if the vendors of the anti-cheat software did so, perhaps to improve compatibility side-by-side.
This may mark a turning point, as many players of these titles on PC, also play in a future Steam deck. Especially because according to Valve they see it "as a new category in the PC space".
