Cyberpunk original creator Mike Pondsmith didn't think "CD Projekt could do it all"

Although he confesses that, in the end, he is happy with the outcome of the game.

Cyberpunk 2077 has been with us for a few days now, and in front of everything that the versions for PS4 and Xbox One and its performance problem, its original creator is happy with the end result. Mike Pondsmith has talked about working with CD Projekt and how he thought "the team wouldn't be able to do everything" at first, but that the result made him happy.

While suffered quite a few delays this year, since the game was intended to be launched in April of this year and ended up arriving this past December 10, Pondsmith He has commented on what it was like to work on its development. The original board game is from the 80s, and since then there have been a multitude of expansions and updates until conversation started with CD Projekt for the video game. Express.co.uk chatted with Mike shortly before the launch of cyberpunk 2077 to talk about work and its processes during these eight years.

First, Pondsmith He was eager to talk about how CDPR brought his iconic character to life: Johnny Silverhand, since he has always been the atyhero of Cyberpunk since its inception. Johnny He may call himself passionate, determined, and opposite, but other members of Night City call him a terrorist. In the game he is played by Keanu Reeves, something that caught him in shock since it was not confirmed in the game; even less played by a renowned and famous actor.

Mike explained how he found out about this: "Basically what happened with CDPR, I think, is that they convinced Keanu and so far I don't know how it was achieved, but I had not thought about Johnny," he said. "They kept it a secret until I got to Warsaw and they asked me, 'Is all this okay?' and I said 'Yes!' Even though Keanu is a big name tied to the project, Mike was more excited by the fact that what a 56-year-old man could do with the character.

"It wasn't because of how famous Keanu is as an actor, it was more that Johnny is an inside person and you don't know what's really going on," he said. Pondsmith. "It has a lot of damage inside, and you don't know what will happen now, so I liked the fact that Keanu could be very internal and suddenly jump into something; that's why it worked really well for me." Considering the history, lore and regarding Cyberpunk, Mike had a hard time opting for CD Projekt onwards.

And although Promotions and marketing sparked a lot of hype from playersAt first I was not sure that the game would reach that many people; though he was relieved with the results. Speaking about working with CD Projekt, he explained that: "It was a very, very cooperative situation, I also have something on my table that is useful, and I also worked on video games."

"I have no unrealistic ideas about what can be done with Cyberpunk 2077, in fact I did not think that some of the things that I have seen could be achieved! I thought, oh my God! This is going to take many hours to somebody!". Remember that the game is already the best-selling game in PC history during a launch and that CD Projekt has already recovered the costs of production and marketing.

By asking what things were you worried about on the scale of the gameHe replied, "Things like population density and all that. And the fact that people don't look like robots on the streets," he said. "The general feeling of a city, beyond what is seen on the screen, I can hear car horns and things happening for miles, which is what would happen in the city. Many of those things were difficult tasks, but I'm pretty happy so far with everything I've seen".
