"Radiant Garden will not succumb to spawn like you!" - Tell a Nescient

Dilan, misspelled as "Dilin" in the North American version of Kingdom Hearts II in one of the Ansem Reports, he is one of the six apprentices of Ansem the Wise and the original being of Xaldin. It first appears in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep.

Ventus

One of the members of the Regime of Custodians that protects Radiant Garden. Despite his rough appearance, his best ability is eloquence, as with his words he is able to influence the hearts of others.

History

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep

Dilan appears with Aeleus, guarding Ansem's castle, the Hollow Bastion, in Radiant Garden. Ventus the first time he meets them, it is while he is looking for Mickey Mouse, but they refuse to leave him and tell him that the castle is closed. Dilan suggests that Ven must go home before the monsters come for him. Aeleus then sees a Nescient, and the two guards are about to attack him. Ventus runs ahead of them and begins to pursue the enemy, despite protests from the guards. They were about to go after Ven, but Even arrives and openly asks what will happen to the castle if the guards leave. Aeleus and Even begin to argue, but Dilan reminds Aeleus that his duty is to protect the castle. Even tells him that his lordship wants to see them and the two guards stick their heads in.

Later, Braig brings Dilan and Ansem an amnesiac Terra-Xehanort, along with the Keyblade and armor of a Keyblade master. Terra can only remember the name of its owner: Xehanort. While Braig takes Xehanort to the castle, Dilan carries the armor and Keyblade for Braig.

In the end credits, Dilan is seen kicking Lea and Isa out of the castle.

Entre Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep y Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days

Roughly a decade before Kingdom Hearts, Dilan was still one of six apprentices to Radiant Garden's ruler and scientist, Ansem the Wise, alongside Braig, Even, Aeleus, Ienzo, and Xehanort. Concerned about the darkness of people's hearts eventually consuming his world, Ansem began conducting tests on Xehanort's heart. Finally, a laboratory was created in the basement of his castle for this type of experimentation, at the insistence of Ienzo. However, Dilan and the other apprentices had their own intentions for the laboratory, and began conducting inhuman experiments on the human heart and the darkness within it.

This type of experimentation led to the creation of the Heartless. Ansem soon discovered their secret experiments, and immediately ordered them to stop. One day, after being aware of his research data being reviewed by King Mickey, Ansem found that the effects of his experiments had become irreversible. Eventually, Dilan and the other five apprentices delved very deeply into the darkness through their experiments, which they continued. Dilan, along with the others, was consumed by darkness. However, all the apprentices possessed strong wills, which is why they also became Nobodies, creating Dilan's Nobody Xaldin. The six Nobodies founded Organization XIII, and banished Ansem the Wise to the Realm of Darkness.

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance

Dilan returns after the destruction of his ruthless incorporeal, Xaldin. He wakes up in Hollow Bastion along with Even, Ienzo, Aeleus, and Lea. Having not fully recovered, he relapses despite Ienzo, Even, and Aeleus searching for Ansem.

Appearance

Dilan is a tall, broad-shouldered man, he wears a dark slate gray guard uniform that is adorned with a crumpled heart symbol, and white gloves. The front of his sports jacket with two rows of gold buttons, highlights silver, and a red and white heart like that of the gloves. He also wears a belt and high-top boots, which are black. Dilan He has black hair and wears long dreadlocks. She keeps most of her dreadlocks tied in a low ponytail, but one hangs over the right side of her face. He also has thick sideburns (though not hooked on his cheeks like Xaldin does), thick eyebrows, and violet eyes.

Dilan wields a spear with only silver edges, with a blue tip, and a handle that alternates from purple to silver. The curly heart symbol is incorporated into the tip of the spear.

Personality

Although Dilan shares similarities with Xaldin in personality given his strict nature, he appears to be much more benevolent and noble than his Nobody, he demonstrated his will by defending Radiant Garden from the Nescient and expressed concern for Ventus, who later volunteered to fight the Nescient alone (Dilan would have followed Ventus had it not been for Even who ordered him to return to his post to guard the castle).

The hostile attitude towards Axel by Xaldin in Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix + has its origin in a confrontation between Dilan, at the end of Birth by Sleep, with Lea, whom he throws out of the castle, along with Isa for trespassing.
