Kingdom Hearts: Chain of MemoriesKingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories

Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories (not to be confused with its remake Re: Chain of Memories) is a Japanese video game created exclusively for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance by Square Enix. This game picks up where Kingdom Hearts ends, for PlayStation 2, and ends at the beginning of Kingdom Hearts II.

In April 2007 a port for the PlayStation 2 platform totally redesigned in 3D graphics was launched in Japan, under the title Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories, also launching in December 2008 in the United States and Canada totally dubbed in English by the original actors of the series and some new ones like Keith Ferguson, with extras like Theater Mode and key scenes added for a better understanding of the plot.

    History

    Sora

Sora, Goofy and Donald continue in search of their adventures to rescue Riku and King Mickey. Suddenly, they encounter a triple bifurcation. They stop to sleep there. Later, late at night, Sora reveals himself and suddenly finds a hooded man, who seems to be the villain of the game. This one says to him to Sora: "Later you will find something that you look for, but you will have to lose something dear to find it". After this, the hooded man disappears leaving Sora alone. When the three bifurcations disappear they become a single path.

After traveling the path, they arrive at a castle, called the Castle of Oblivion. This poses a problem, since, as its name suggests, memory is lost in that place. Sora and his friends must reach the end of everything, finding something important, but losing something dear. That is the main plot of Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories.

Sora along with the memories of Pass City

As Sora and company advance into the Castle of Oblivion, Sora remembers someone: Naminé, a young woman with blond hair who shared her childhood with Sora and Riku in Destiny Islands. As he remembers more and more about this girl, Sora forgets more and more about his beloved Kairi. Facing his memories, Sora must defeat the Nobodies, mysterious human-like beings clad in black robes.

These Nobodies call themselves "The Organization", whose primary purpose is to get to control Sora, turn him into his puppet, since the chosen one of the Keyblade can serve both good and evil. For this they use Naminé (also a "Nobody", a non-existent one) who is actually a witch capable of altering people's memories and implanting false ones, as she says, as if they were chains (hence the name of the game "Chain Of Memories", Chain of Memories). Memories are all linked by links, so if you remember something, this memory leads to another and so on.

Naminé breaks the chains of memories and adds false memories. After defeating the members of the Organization (Axel, Vexen, Larxene and Marluxia) (all except Axel killed by Sora's hands, except Vexen who dies at the hands of Axel) Sora has absolutely lost all his memories, and the only thing he remembers it is his friendship with Naminé, and the promise he made to her as a child that he would "always protect her." This one tells the crude truth to Sora, that all those memories towards her are false, and had been forced by the Organization to do it. Sora apologizes; and Naminé explains to him that he can recover his memories, forgetting those he has lived in this adventure in the castle of oblivion; or stay with the memories you have from now and forget the others, since you have to join the links of the real memory and leave the false ones out.

Sora chooses to regain his memories, but comments to Naminé that he will never forget his false promise, because it took root in his heart. Naminé explains that, although memories are forgotten, they are never lost, they are trapped in the darkness of the heart and that if you search your heart you will one day remember it. After this, Naminé takes him to level 13, where Sora will have to sleep in a capsule in order to recover his true memories, a process that will take time to complete. After this the story of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days would begin and, followed by this, Kingdom Hearts II, with the awakening of Sora.

    Riku (Reverse/Rebirth)

Although they do not work for some, here we will play with a dark character, Riku. We start in the world of darkness, where Riku manages to escape thanks to the card that "someone" gives us.

In the end it is discovered that this someone is Ansem. After that, Riku meets Maleficent, a witch who tricked him in Kingdom Hearts. However, this Maleficent is not real, because the place where Riku is transported is the Castle of Oblivion. He explains that he will only see dark beings, since it is only darkness that houses his heart.

Ansem le da un naipe a Riku

Riku refuses to believe him and will face all dark beings. Riku escapes from the World of Darkness and mysteriously appears in the cellars of Castle Oblivion, according to Vexen because his existence matches that of the other hero: Sora.

While Sora ascends to the 13th floor, Riku starts in the basement until he reaches the castle exit. As with Sora, the members of a mysterious organization seek a way to control their powers thanks to the darkness of their hearts. Ansem himself attempts to re-possess Riku, causing him a great fear of the dark. DiZ is another character that appears. Although his intentions are not very clear, he seems to want something from Riku.

Whenever Riku has problems, especially with Ansem, a light appears to help him. It's about King Mickey. Finally Naminé, disguised as Kairi, helps Riku realize that he need not fear the darkness of his heart.

When he meets Naminé again, she offers him the opportunity to seal Ansem's chapter forever. However, Riku prefers to confront him and finally defeats him, although apparently not totally ... (this is seen in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days when, in the end, Riku submits to the power of Darkness).

    Battle System

The battle system is quite peculiar, based on the use of cards. Depending on the number of that card in question, you can attack or block enemy attacks. Also, summons and magic will work with cards. Thus, to form Pyro +, two Pyro cards are used, and for Pyro ++, three Pyro cards. Also allies appear on cards, and the system is in real time, which makes it so special. Special attacks are made by combining different cards with unique characteristics. In addition, completing the game unlocks the Reverse / Rebirth mode, so you can also play as Riku.
