Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of MemoriesKingdom Hearts Re: Chain of MemoriesKingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories

Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories is a remake of Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. It was first released on March 29, 2007 in Japan, and imported into North America almost 2 years later, on December 2, 2008. There is no confirmed release in Europe. However, it is included in the remastered version of PlayStation 3, Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX, which has been subtitled in various languages, including Spanish.

In Japan, it is part of the Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix + pack, and has connectivity features with Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix. As there were no plans to release Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix internationally, these features have been added with a condition of completing the stories for the North American release.

    Summary

    Important changes

Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories

Example of 3D Image and Reaction Command

    • While many changes were made between the two versions, by far the most important was the total redesign of the game being a 2D rendered computer image for PlayStation XNUMX game, in the same style as the other posts posted on the series (Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II). This remodel includes changing the battlefields from two-dimensional screens without "height" into full three-dimensional scenarios, allowing enemies to get out of the player's sight.
    • A small but still important change was the conversion of many of the game's scenes into full voice acted full motion videos, and the use of voice action within the game. While the dialogue for the game has been recorded with the voice actors used in Kingdom Hearts II, the voicing and sound effects within a game largely based on existing clips. In some cases, such as Sora's invocations and his stopping when casting the spell, these clips were only available with the actors' Kingdom Hearts voice acting. As the scenes were fully rendered, rather than acting with the sprites, the violence in the game was more apparent, and the game's rating was raised from E to E10 +, for fantasy violence. In addition, these spaces can be aesthetically varied, even within the same world, whereas in the original game there was only one scenario design per world. The "Duel" system, based on Link Mode, was added to Riku's combat mechanics, and the Reaction Commands from the Kingdom Hearts II system were incorporated into both Sora's and Riku's battle mechanics. generally to replace cases where the player had to press a button to continue a combo attack.
    • The card game system and overall plot remains the same as the original Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, and "Simple and Clean" is the theme of the game's song. However, there were many small tweaks to the story, as well as the addition of new Cards, Special Attacks, bosses, and a Theater Mode to bring back scenes already seen.

    Other differences

    History changes

    Attention, this section contains spoilers.

    • Flashbacks from the first Kingdom Hearts are included in the scenes.
    • Axel finishes Vexen with a snap of his fingers. In the original, Vexen is eliminated after being hit a second time by Axel's chakrams.
    • In the original, Goofy punches Larxene when he tries to kill Sora. In the remake, what he does is throw his shield at Larxene to temporarily distract her.
    • In the original, the False Riku is seen lying on the ground on the 12th floor, and in motion he will trigger a cutscene (followed by a boss fight). In the remake, he is on his feet, and a command of the reaction triggers the boss fight.
    • When the fight against the Armor is fought in the original Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, it is fought in the third district. However, in Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories, it is fought in the second district.
    • When Sora was affected by Larxene in the original Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, Donald uses Cura to heal him, but in Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories, he uses Cura ++ to heal him.
    • At the climax of the original story, when Axel attempts to execute Marluxia for his betrayal, Marluxia uses Naminé as a shield after hearing Axel's threat. In the remake, they have a brief fight before Marluxia uses Naminé as a shield. Marluxia also never leaves the room until the end of the fight.
    • Instead of dragging Riku into the dark depths, using his ultimate strength, Lexaeus dies when Riku's body is temporarily taken over by Ansem.
    • In the original game, Zexion teleports when his disguise as Sora is uncovered. In the remake, Zexion fights Riku directly, but is defeated and, fearing for his life, teleports away.
    • The scene from Kingdom Hearts Final Mix involving Sora fighting Xemnas as the stranger is set in the opening.
    • An extended scene of Roxas is shown along with Hayner, Pence, and Olette at the end of the game.
    • At the end of the game, a scene of invisible members of the Organization is shown.
    • Zexion's death spread, while they are only implied in the original game, it is clearly shown in the remake. An allusion is made in the original game, although Riku's Replica has never been shown to kill Zexion, while in the remake it is shown that Riku's Replica strangles Zexion and drains his life force.

    Mechanical changes

    • While fighting the Parasite Cage, the stomach acid does not deal damage to Sora if he is charging his mallet.
    • The final battle against Marluxia has been divided into two sub-battles the first is generally the same as the original final battle, while the second takes place entirely at the top of the Marluxia spectrum, and features him as much more aggressive, with several powerful Special Attacks.
    • As in his Intangible Essence in Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, Lexaeus can enter a temporary state of invulnerability and increased strength.
    • As with Roxas and Sora in their fight in Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, the scene where Riku faces Zexion has turned into a full boss battle. During this battle, Zexion can steal cards from Riku, in addition to Riku staying in Dark Mode during the fight.
    • The final battle in Monster, while playing it, is now logged in the Diary as a mini-game.
    • The 100 Acre Forest has been modified to be a mini-game world, as in Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II, rather than a single minigame composed to help Pooh find his friends.
    • The Journal now keeps track of scores for minigames, as in Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II.
    • In the English versions after passing the Reverse / Rebirth mode you can obtain Kingdom Hearts II Keyblades in addition to the remaining Organization XIII members that did not appear.
    • The Gold and Platinum Cards are available now in Sora's story, and can be obtained from rewards after having obtained all the Cards.
    • Barrels and Spider Barrels no longer respawn if you re-enter a room.
    • Pluto's card and its Good Loot Special Attack are now available.
    • Map Cards, Unfathomable Darkness, Random Room, and Random Wild Card have been added.
    • The Black Hole, Paralysis, Big Eruption, Smart Blaze, Smoky Donald, and Goofy Attack Special Attacks have been removed and replaced by Spiroiman, Fatal Pause, Star Bolt, Fiery Bolt, Pyre, Ferocious Volley, Goofy Tornado LV2, Goofy Thrust, and Rattler.
    • Riku's battle mechanic now includes Duel Mode and with it new Special Attacks, and he now has the group abilities Sacred Rush and Reverse Shock.
    • High Jump, Glider, and Super Glider support skills are available.
    • The effect of the enemy Dark Ball card, which is useless, thanks to the removal of Link Mode, has been modified to work with Riku's Duel system. As such, it is no longer available in "Sora's Story".
    • The effects of various Special Attacks were modified.
    • Ansem's card is now available as a reward in Twilight Village and not in Castle Oblivion.
    • Jack's Allied Card is now available in the first battle in Halloween Town, and not immediately after it.
    • Zantetsuken, Swift Lunge, Tornado, Sanctus, Last Arcane, Ragnarok, and Megafulgor are now available to learn at levels 22, 27, 42, 47, 37, 52, and 57, respectively, compared to levels 27, 22, 32, 37 , 42, 47 and 52.
    • Omniéter is now a reward for completing the Air Swing minigame, rather than a reward for defeating Vexen the first time.
    • Elixir is now a reward for completing the Buzzing Bees minigame, rather than a reward for finding Rito.
    • Mini Vortex is now a reward from Twilight Town, rather than a reward for defeating False Riku.
    • Exile is now available in the Agrabah Reward Room, instead of the Twilight Village Reward Room.
    • Planted is available now in the Halloween Town Reward Room, rather than as a reward for finding Igor.
    • Synchronizer is now available in the Reward Room in Wonderland, and not as a reward for finding Rabbit.
    • Edenia is now available as a reward for Jumping with Tigger's compensation, rather than a reward for finding Tigger.
    • Crusader-Whip + is now available as a reward for the Orchard Panic compensation, rather than as a Hollow Bastion reward.
    • The effectiveness of Riku's strength is slightly amplified from the original game.
    • During the fights in the corridors, the battles are now fought in large spaces.
    • There are also environmental changes throughout the game for example, in Wonderland there are now flowers that block the doors that you have to destroy in order for the doors to unlock. Also in certain areas there are things that shoot projectiles confusing Sora or Riku if they are hit, such as flowers in Wonderland or statues of angels in the Olympus Coliseum.

    Visual and sound changes

    • Link Mode has been removed and Theater Mode has been added.
    • Sora's voice in this game is that of Kingdom Hearts II, where he was 15, as opposed to his 14-year-old voice from the first two Kingdom Hearts games.
    • The color categories of several of the map cards now have a small symbol ("R", "B", "G", or "!") Indicating their color.
    • The attack, enemy, and magic cards played by Axel, Larxene, Vexen, Marluxia, Lexaeus, Zexion, Ansem, and False Riku represent different facial expressions, depending on their effect.
    • Sora, Donald, Goofy, Riku, and King Mickey now wear their Halloween costumes while in Halloween Town, although in Atlantica they remain in their normal forms.
    • During his last battles with both Sora and Riku, False Riku's left hand finds himself immersed in an orb of darkness.
    • Axel no longer says, "... give me a good show," like he did in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. Instead, he says, "Try to be nice, Sora."
    • In Larxene's first meeting with Sora, "through" is misspelled as "thougt". This line is later fixed in the new version.
