Li Shang is a character from Kingdom Hearts II. He is the captain of the Land of Dragons Chinese Imperial Army sent to defeat Shan-Yu, as well as Mulan's love interest.

Li Shang is the captain of the Chinese army, assigned to protect China from falling into the hands of Shan-Yu. He is initially cold to Ping (who is Mulan in disguise) because of "his" enormous deficiencies when it comes to fighting, but learns to trust "him" after he brings down a mountain of snow on Shan-Yu and her. army. However, Mushu accidentally blurts out the truth and Shang realizes that Ping is actually Fa Mulan. Even though he is supposed to be sentenced to death, he spares his life.

When it turns out that Shan-Yu is alive and heading to the Imperial City, Mulan tries to warn him, but he refuses to listen until he sees the truth for himself. He then rescues the Emperor and Mulan, thanks to Sora, Donald, and Goofy, for their help in protecting his country and ultimately defeating Shan-Yu. It is at this time that Shang discovers his romantic feelings for Mulan, but is still unable to express himself properly, much to the emperor's amusement.

After Sora's second visit, a black hooded man visits the Emperor and easily defeats Shang. After Mulan, Sora, Donald, and Goofy defeat the Storm Rider, Mulan becomes a partner with Shang, for the protection of her world and her Emperor, much to her pleasure. Sora also learns from the Emperor's description, as it leads to the fact that the hooded man may have been his friend Riku.

After Sora has returned to the Destiny Islands, Shang is seen sharing a romantic moment with Mulan, until the three soldiers, Chien Po, Yao, and Ling reveal that they are spying on them and they ruin everything.

Appearance

Li Shang has a muscular build and is protected by Chinese combat armor. The armor is predominantly black, as are his shoes, leg guards, and gauntlets. Shang wears a white shirt and gray pants under the armor, and the former reaches his knees. His armor appears to expose his elbows and most of his thighs are exposed. He has jet black hair tied up in a ponytail, with a red cloth and wears a billowy red cape. Li Shang's sword sheath is attached to the left of what appears to be one more piece of gray armor that covers his abdomen.

Personality

Li Shang is a very capable captain of the Chinese army. Being a captain, he tends to have a demeanor "like having a lot of work and not playing", followed by being very firm and dedicated to his cause. You will often find work before you put your feelings down. Despite his tough exterior, Shang is relatively good, as seen in expelling Mulan's army rather than killing her, as she had previously saved his life.

Li Shang made his first appearance in 1998, with the Disney animated film Mulan. He is chosen by the General Assembly to train new recruits, while the general himself leads veteran warriors to the front lines of the Shan-Yu battle. The first job as a captain that Shang received is to stop a fight between "Ping", Yao, and Ling. He is shown to take his job very seriously, as he wants to prove to the emperor's advisor that he can handle the position of captain. When he finds out that "Ping" is a woman, he throws her out of the army instead of killing her, because he still has a little respect for her, and on one occasion, he saved her life during Shan-Yu's attack on the mountain. Although he seemed very angry when he was dealing with Mulan about being a woman, Shang is later shown to help Mulan with his plan to defeat Shan-Yu in the Imperial Palace. Together they killed Shan-Yu, and later revealed their love for each other.
