The pearl portrait (wistful painting in English) is a painting introduced in Animal Crossing: City Folk / Let's Go To The City, whose real name is "The Pearl Girl."
Description
This is one of the most famous portraits in the history of art, but it is not yet known who the model was.
Although the truth is that this is not a portrait. It is a tronie, a typical pictorial genre of the Netherlands from the seventeenth century that means "face" or "expression", and which consists of the simple representation of the face of an anonymous character that was not intended to be an identifiable portrait and that were produced to demonstrate an artist's expertise.
The artist uses, among other colors, ultramarine blue, the most expensive pigment that existed, although we know that at that time Vermeer was not going through a very comfortable economic situation. He painted an average of only two paintings a year and had no less than 11 children and several workers in his house (perhaps the girl was one of them).
