Vexen (nickname, The Frost Scholar) (いてつく学究, Itetsuku Gakkyū, lit. Scholar Freeze), is a Nobody and number IV of Organization XIII, also being a founding member. He was the Organization scientist and he was the one who created the Riku Replica. Its element is ice, which it uses to fight creating stakes and blizzards. His original self is Even, one of Ansem the Wise's apprentices, and it seems that he was the one who took care of young Ienzo's partial education.

Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories

Man immersed in a strange search in the Castle of Oblivion. He tried to finish off Sora by using Riku to force a match between them. Seeing his plan ruined, he decided to challenge Sora himself.

Reverse/Rebirth

Number IV within the Organization. Together with Lexaeus and Zexión he founded this strange association, but he does not get along with neophytes like Marluxia. After his fight against Riku, he leaves for the surface. However, his continuous blunders lead Axel to finish him off.

Kingdom Hearts II

Former number IV of Organization XIII. Has been deleted. Vexen, Lexaeus, and Zexion were the founding members of Organization XIII, and they professed no sympathy for neophytes like Marluxia. Vexen opposed Marluxia's plans to gain control of the Organization, after which he was annihilated by Axel.

Appearance

Vexen has long platinum blonde hair, which falls down in long locks. His eyes are dark green, very penetrating. He wears the typical Organization XIII tunic with slightly longer sleeves, partially covering his hands.

Personality

Vexen approaches problems like an intellectual, with a hypothesis and a solution. He is a very intelligent man, and he speaks to Sora and Riku in a mocking tone, believing himself superior. He fears Xemnas, as demonstrated when Marluxia threatened to tell Xemnas about his failure with Riku's clone. Another example would be when Xemnas was in the Chamber of Rest and Vexen did not dare to approach him. From all this it can be deduced that he is a coward, even more than Demyx, and the best example of this is that he occupies the lowest throne in the assembly chamber of Organization XIII. He shares with Zexión the preference not to stain his hands, although Vexen does so out of fear of being destroyed. This makes him little respected and members like Marluxia or Larxene make fun of him. Maybe being a coward is why his weapon is a shield. Still, he is daring in his experiments, as demonstrated when he fights Riku to obtain data for his research. Like its element, it is cold and hard.

Skills

Vexen, like Goofy, uses a shield as a weapon. The shield is large, but it is unprotected from the back. As his nickname suggests, his element is Ice, so he uses it heavily to freeze his rival in combat, create large ice stakes or sharp stars, and send blizzards. One of its most common attacks is throwing sharp icicles of ice at high speed. Among his most powerful attacks are creating a blizzard and striking with a sword made of ice. Vexen can levitate above the ground and use telekinetic abilities to make his shield float before him. Despite all this, he is the weakest member of the Organization.

Arms

Main Article: Weapons of Organization XIII

Vexen carries a large blue Shield, very wide at the upper end, where it also has large points. Their Shields tend to be named after an ice age or a long-term scientific description. The use of this object allows him to have good defensive skills. His default Shield, Frozen Pride, even has a health bar of its own in the battle against the Vexen Data in Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix. His joke weapons are Casserole Lid and Snowman, in which Casserole Lid is just the lid of a pot and Snowman is a shield that has a snowman in front of a snowflake. In 358/2 Days, Vexen's Shields can change shape and appearance, similar to the keychains on the Keyblade of the protagonists.

Curiosities

Larxene refers to him disparagingly as "Vexy".
In the manga it is mentioned that Vexen creates replicas of himself to prevent his end.
He makes an appearance in Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, in which he can be fought using his Intangible Essence, found in Agrabah, although the battle takes place in Twilight Town in honor of what happened in Chain of Memories, and against your data in the Eden of Convergence, in Radiant Garden.
His name is an anagram of his original name plus an X, like all of the Organization, Even.
Being a coward may be the reason why his weapon is a shield, which he uses to cover himself and avoid attacks.
